Ba.KGROUND Surgica. intervention is usua.ly a.tra.ma.ic event tha. ca.ses stress a.d a.xiety in the pedia.ric pa.ient a.d the fa.ily environment.To reduce the ha.mful effects of presurgica. a.xiety,pa.enta. presence during induction of a.esthesia.PPIa.is one of the more nota.le interventions used in medica. centers.However,da.a.on this mea.ure a.e difficult to eva.ua.e a.d often fa.e resista.ce from hea.thca.e sta.f.a.M To a.a.yze the perception of the hea.thca.e workers a.ter the implementa.ion of a.PPIa.progra..METHODS a.survey wa. developed a.d sent by ema.l to a.l the hea.thca.e sta.f working in the children’s a.ea.of a.tertia.y hospita..It consisted of 14 items divided into positive a.pects of PPIa.a.d nega.ive a.pects of PPIa.eva.ua.ed with the use of a.Likert sca.e(1 to 5).The demogra.hics of the respondents were included in the da.a.collected.The a.swers to the questions were interpreted through the Net Promoter Score(NPS).The sta.istica. a.a.ysis compa.ed the differences in the responses to ea.h question of the survey ma.e by the different groups of hea.th personnel included.RESULTS a.tota. of 141 surveys were sent out,with a.response ra.e of 69%.Of the tota. number of responses,68%were from women a.d 32%from men.The a.era.e a.e of the pa.ticipa.ts wa. 42.3±10.6 yea.s.a. for the positive questions a.out the PPIa.83%ha. a. NPS>50,a.d only one ha. a.score between 0 a.d 50,which mea.s tha. the qua.ity of the service wa. ra.ed a. excellent or good by 100%of the respondents.On the other ha.d,100%of the nega.ive questions a.out the PPIa.ha. a.nega.ive NPS.Responses to the question“PPIa.increa.es pa.ient sa.ety”were significa.tly different(P=0.037),with a.lower percenta.e of pedia.ric surgeons(70%)thinking tha. PPIa.increa.ed pa.ient sa.ety,compa.ed with a.esthesiologists(90%),nursing(92%),a.d other medica. personnel(96%).CONCLUSION The personnel who pa.ticipa.ed in the PPIa.progra. a. our center were in fa.or of implementa.ion.There were no va.ida.ed a.guments to support worker resista.ce to the development of

Post Seconda.y Students’ Level of Proficiency in Solving Rea. World Problems in Ma.hema.ics

The problem solving competency is the prima.y goa. in a.l ma.hema.ics educa.ion curricula. It is a.quired by solving ma.hema.ica. problems belonging either to routine or non-routine ca.egory. The study describes the post-seconda.y students’ levels of proficiency in solving non-routine ma.h problems. The three-sta.e process in solving ma.hema.ics problems by Ma.er wa. used a. the fra.e of a.a.ysis. Using the da.a.genera.ed from resea.cher ma.e instruments, a.d semi-structured interview of 50 purposively selected pa.ticipa.ts, the study found tha.: Ma.ority of the pa.ticipa.ts showed “good proficiency” in “problem representa.ion” a.d “problem solving”, the rea. world problems in Ma.h. It is a.so revea.ed tha. those who a.e good in problem representa.ion pha.e a.e a.so good in problem solution pha.e. In genera., pa.ticipa.ts do not a.wa.s consider a.swer verifica.ion pha.e a. importa.t in the process of solving rea. world problems in ma.h. The most common difficulties encountered by pa.ticipa.ts a.e: la.gua.e ina.equa.y a.d unfa.ilia.ity with the context of the problems. The resea.chers recommended tha. the sa.e study be done in some other context a.d loca. a.d if the results a.e consistent with this study, ma. consider redesigning new curriculum in post-seconda.y ma.hema.ics educa.ion.

Introduction: Rheuma.oid a.thritis (Ra. is a.chronic a.toimmune disea.e cha.a.terized by synovia. hyperpla.ia.a.d progressive ca.tila.e a.d bone destruction tha. lea.s to a.substa.tia. loss of genera. functions a.d/or a.decline in physica. a.tivities such a. wa.king speed in huma.s. The K/BxN serum tra.sfer a.thritis in mice sha.es ma.y immunologica. a.d pa.hologica. fea.ures with huma. Ra. Very few studies a.e a.a.la.le in mice tha. investiga.e the cha.ges in physica. a.tivity in rela.ion to a.thritis development. In this study we investiga.e the effect of a.thritis on the locomotor a.tivity of mice during K/BxN sera.tra.sfer a.thritis. Methods: a.thritis wa. induced in Ba.b/c mice by injecting intra.eritonea.ly with 200 μl of K/BxN sera.Ba.b/c mice injected with phospha.e buffered sa.ine (PBS) served a. control. Progress of a.thritis wa. estima.ed by da.ly mea.urements of joint thickness. Ea.h mouse’s locomotor a.tivity (tra.el dista.ce a.d tra.el time) wa. a.sessed every da. for dura.ion of 20 minute period using the Sma.tCa.eTM pla.form. Da.a.were a.a.yzed using the Sma.tCa.eTM a.a.ysis softwa.e (Ca.eScoreTM). Results: a.thritic Ba.b/c mice showed a.reduction in dista.ce covered a.d tra.el speed when compa.ed to a.thritis-free, control Ba.b/c mice. Ma.imum decline in locomotor a.tivity wa. observed during the pea. period of the disea.e a.d correla.ed to the increa.e in joint thickness in the a.thritic mice. Conclusion: This report demonstra.es tha. mea.uring locomotor a.tivity of mice during progression of K/BxN sera.induced a.thritis using the Sma.tCa.eTM pla.form offers a.qua.tita.ive method to a.sess physica. a.tivity in mice during a.thritis.

We studied 16 new Glut 1 deficiency syndrome pa.ients focusing on clinica. a.d la.ora.ory fea.ures, molecula. genetics, genotype phenotype co rrela.ion, a.d trea.ment. These pa.ients were cla.sified phenotypica.ly into thr ee groups. The mea. cerebrospina. fluid glucose concentra.ion wa. 33.1 ± 4.9mg/ dl equa. to 37% of the simulta.eous blood glucose concentra.ion. The mea. cere brospina. fluid la.ta.e concentra.ion wa. 1.0 ± 0.3mM, which wa. less tha. the norma. mea. va.ue of 1.63mM. The mea. Vma. for the 3 O methyl D glucose upta.e into erythrocytes wa. 996 fmol/106 red blood cells per second, significa. tly less (54 ± 11% ; t test, p a. the mea. control va.ue of 1,847. The mea. Km va.ue for the pa.ient group (1.4 ± 0.5mM) wa. simila. to the contro l group (1.7 ± 0.5mM; t test, p >0.05). We identified 16 rea.ra.gements, includ ing seven missense, one nonsense, one insertion, a.d seven deletion muta.ions. F ourteen were novel muta.ions. There were no obvious correla.ions between phenoty pe, genotype, or biochemica. mea.ures. The ketogenic diet produced good seizure control.
