Evaluation of hypolipidemic Marrubium vulgare effect in Triton WR-1339-induced hyperlipidemia in mice

Objective: To evaluate the hypocholesterolemic and hypotriglyceridemic activities of four Marrbium vulgare(M. vulgare) herb extracts using Triton WR-1339-induced hyperlipidemia in mice. Methods: Hyperlipidemia was developed by intraperitoneal injection of Triton(200 mg/kg body weight). The animals were divided into main four groups of eight mice each: normal control group, hyperlipidemic control group, hyperlipidemic plus tween-40 control and treated group. The fourth one was divided into four subgroups, petroleum ether extract group, chloroform extract group, ethyl acetate extract group and methanol extract treated group each of them contains two sub-sub group for treating animals with two doses at 0.1 and 0.25 LD50. Results: After 7 h and 24 h of treatment, the intragastric administration of all extracts caused a significant decrease of plasma total cholesterol. Triglyceride levels were also significantly lowered by all extracts while petroleum ether produced the lowest decreasing level. Similar results were observed for LDL-cholesterol concentrations. furthermore, more polar extracts(methanol and ethyl acetate)-soluble fractions showed a significant ameliorative action on elevated atherogenic index(AI) and LDL/HDL-C ratios, while these atherogenic markers were not statistically suppressed by the chloroform and petroleum ether-soluble extract. Conclusion: The findings indicated that Marrubium may contain polar products able to lower plasma lipid concentrations and might be beneficial in treatment of hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis.

Correlation of gene content in selected bifidobacteria with folate supplier or scavenger status during growth in laboratory media

five different bifidobacterial cultures were screened to investigate if their de novo folate production ability could be predicated based on their folate biosynthetic gene content. As previously developed folate free media could not adequately support the growth of these five strains, even with added folate, an alternative medium (YNB+) was developed. Consistent with its genome prediction, Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis strain Bb-12 required folate for its growth even in the presence of p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). Although B. longum DJO10A and B. breve ATCC 15701 lack an alkaline phosphatase gene for the formation of one pathway intermediate (DHPPP), both were found to be able to grow independent from folate and PABA suggesting that lack of these genes in genome annotations cannot be used to predict folate dependency in bifidobacteria. Similarly, having all required genes cannot always predict folate production, as B. longum subsp. infantis RECb4 contained a full set of pathway genes, but required folate or PABA for growth. While many bifidobacteria can produce folate, this also cannot be used to predicate their ability to supply folate as some can act as scavengers when folate is readily available in the environment, such as B. breve ATCC 15701 in this study. As bifidobacterial cultures are sometimes considered for use in foods based on their folate production abilities, it is important to consider whether they function as folate scavengers or suppliers when growing in folate containing media.

为研究旋流燃烧室对固体燃料冲压发动机(SfRJ)药柱表面传热以及燃速的影响,以高密度聚乙烯(HDPE)为燃料,对旋流和无旋工况下的固体燃料冲压发动机进行了连管实验研究,并且编制了二维轴对称湍流燃烧仿真程序,采用流固耦合传热的方法以及非定常时间推进方式,对实验工况进行了数值模拟。结果表明:①药柱表面热流密度对燃速有显著影响,在回流区与附着点处,药柱表面的对流换热能力要明显优于再发展区;②在旋流工况下,在离心力与切向速度的作用下,使热解产物在药柱表面附近区域停留时间更长,有助于热解产物的充分反应,并且明显增强药柱表面对流换热能力,与无旋工况相比,提高幅度可达100%,并且在旋流工况下发动机可更快建立自持燃烧;③通过实验研究发现,旋流的引入提高发动机的燃速有积极作用,增幅可达26%,但会导致固体燃料冲压发动机补燃室压强出现周期性振荡。

Objective:To detect Coxiella burnetii(***)DNA in clinical specimens from camel,goats,cattle and sheep in the Kingdom of Saudi ***:A total of 367 clinical samples including blood,milk,faeces and urine were collected from different livestock and subjected to PCR amplification using primers which amplify transposon-like region and transposase ***:Positive amplification from both regions was obtained from camel,goats and cattle but not from sheep.A percentage of 10.8%samples yielded positive PCR amplification from both blood and milk,where 15 of 139 blood and 16 of 148 milk samples were *** and urine showed higher percentages of positive samples reaching 40.8%and 23.8%***:The preferred route of shedding in camel appeared to be the faeces followed by urine,while that of goats appeared to be the faeces and that of the cattle appeared to be the milk.
