Describing matrix–fracture interaction is one of the most imp.rtant factors for modeling natural fractured reservoirs.A common ap.roach for simulation of naturally fractured reservoirs is dual-p.rosity modeling where the degree of communication between the low-p.rmeability medium(matrix)and high-p.rmeability medium(fracture)is usually determined by a transfer *** of the p.op.sed matrix–fracture functions dep.nd on the geometry of the matrix and fractures that are lump.d to a factor called shap. ***,there is no unique solution for calculating the shap. factor even for symmetric *** fine-scale modeling is a tool for calculating the shap. factor and validating the current solutions in the *** this study,the shap. factor is calculated based on the numerical simulation of fine-grid simulations for single-p.ase flow using finite element *** the best of the author’s knowledge,this is the first study to calculate the shap. factors for multidimensional irregular bodies in a systematic *** models were used,and shap. factors were calculated for both transient and p.eudo-steady-state(p.S)cases,although in some cases they were not clarified and assump.ions were not *** boundary condition dep.ndency of the shap. factor was also investigated,and the obtained results were comp.red with the results of other *** show that some of the most p.p.lar formulas cannot cap.ure the exact p.ysics of matrix–fracture *** obtained results also show that both p.S and transient ap.roaches for describing matrix–fracture transfer lead to constant shap. factors that are not unique and dep.nd on the fracture p.essure(boundary condition)and how it changes with time.

Assessment of Cu(Ⅱ) removal from an aqueous solution by raw Gundelia tournefortii as a new low-cost biosorbent: Exp.riments and modelling

Lignocellulosic materials can be used as biosorbent for refinement of the wastewaters when they are available in large quantities. Many studies were conducted to up.ake Cu(Ⅱ) ion from aqueous *** this p.p.r, the biosorp.ion efficiency of Cu(Ⅱ) ions from a synthetic aqueous solution was investigated using Gundelia tournefortii(GT), without any p.e-treatment. Fourier transform infrared sp.ctroscop.,scanning electron microscop. and determining the p.int of zero charge were emp.oyed to characterise the biosorbent. Batch exp.riments were p.rformed to study the influence of p.H, biosorbent dosage, contact time, temp.rature and initial Cu(Ⅱ) concentration on Cu(Ⅱ) removal. The biosorp.ion isotherms were investigated using the Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and D-R isotherm models. The findings show that the biosorp.ion isotherm was better fitted by the Langmuir equation and the maximum adsorp.ion cap.city of GT was found to be 38.7597 mg·g^-1. The kinetics data were analysed by p.eudo-first order,p.eudo-second order, and intra-p.rticle diffusion equations. The results indicate that the p.eudosecond-order model was found to exp.ain the adsorp.ion kinetics most effectively. The values of thermodynamic p.rameters including Gibbs free energy(△G°), enthalp.(△H°), and entrop.(△S°) demonstrate that the biosorp.ion p.ocess was exothermic and sp.ntaneous. The multip.e nonlinear regression(MnLR)and artificial neural network(ANN) analyses were ap.lied for the p.ediction of biosorp.ion cap.city. A relationship.between the p.edicted and observed data was obtained and the results show that the Mn LR and ANN models p.ovided successful p.edictions.

An exp.rimental study on the flexural behavior of heavily steel reinforced beams with high-strength concrete

In recent years, an emerging technology termed high-strength concrete （HSC） has become p.p.lar in construction industry. p.esent study describes an exp.rimental research on the behavior of high-strength concrete beams in ultimate and service state. Six simp.y sup.orted beams were tested, by ap.lying comp.ising two symmetric concentrated loads. Tests are rep.rted in this study on the flexural behavior of high-strength reinforced concrete （HSRC） beams made with coarse and fine aggregate together with Microsilica. Test p.rameter considered includes effect of being comp.essive reinforcement. Based on the obtained results, the behavior of such members is more deep.y reviewed. Also a comp.rison between theoretical and exp.rimental results is rep.rted here. The beams were made from concrete having comp.essive strength of 66.81-77.72 N/mm2 and p.rcentage reinforcement ratio （p.p.） in the range of 0.56% - 1.20%. The ultimate moment for the tested beams was found to be in a good agreement with that of the p.edicted ultimate moment based on ACI 318-11, ACI 363 and C SA-04 p.ovisions. The p.edicted deflection based classical formulation based on code p.ovisions for serviceability requirements is found to underestimate the maximum deflection of HSC reinforced beams at service load.

BACKGROUND:It is not clear whether Emergency Severity Index(ESI)is valid to triage heart failure(HF)p.tients and if HF p.tients benefi t more from a customized triage scale or *** aim of study is to comp.re the effect of Heart Failure Triage Scale(HFTS)and ESI on mistriage among p.tients with HF who p.esent to the emergency dep.rtment(ED).METHODS:A randomized clinical trial was conducted from Ap.il to June *** p.tients with dysp.ea were randomly assigned to HFTS or ESI *** level,used resources and time to electrocardiogram(ECG)were comp.red between both group. among HF p.tients who were admitted to coronary care unit(CCU),cardiac unit(CU)and discharged p.tients from the *** validity was examined using Kap.a designating agreement on relevance(K*).Reliability of both scale was evaluated using inter-observer agreement(Kap.a).RESULTS:Seventy-three and 74 HF p.tients were assigned to HFTS and ESI group. *** to ECG in HFTS group.was signifi cantly shorter than that of ESI group.2.05 vs.16.82 minutes).Triage level between HFTS and ESI group. was signifi cantly different among p.tients admitted to CCU(1.0 vs.2.8),cardiac unit(2.26 vs.3.06)and discharged p.tients from the ED(3.53 vs.2.86).Used resources in HFTS group.was significantly different among triage levels(H=25.89;df=3;p.0.001).CONCLUSION:HFTS is associated with less mistriage than ESI for triaging HF *** is recommended to make use of HFTS to triage HF p.tients in the ED.

Role of p.p.2/22 p.lymorp.isms in p.thop.ysiology of Crohn's disease

AIM To establish the relationship.of p.otein tyrosine p.osp.atase non-recep.or typ. 2 and 22(p.p.2/22) p.lymorp.isms and mycobacterial infections in Crohn's disease(CD). METHODS All 133 subjects' blood samp.es were genotyp.d for nine single nucleotide p.lymorp.isms(SNp.) in p.p.2/22 using TaqMan^(?) genotyp.ng, while the effect of the SNp. on p.p.2/22 and IFN-γ gene exp.ession was determined using RT-p.R. Detection of Mycobacterium avium subsp.cies p.ratuberculosis(MAp. IS900 gene was done by np.R after DNA extraction from the isolated leukocytes of each subjects' blood samp.es. T-cells isolated from the p.tient samp.es were tested for resp.nse to p.ytohematoagglutonin(p.A) mitogen or mycobacterial antigens by Brd U p.oliferation assays for T-cell activity. RESULTS Out of the nine SNp. examined, subjects with either heterozygous(TC)/minor(CC) alleles in p.p.2:rs478582 occurred in 83% of CD subjects comp.red to 61% healthy controls(p.values p.p.22:rs2476601 occurred in 16% of CD comp.red to 6% healthy controls(OR = 2.7). Gene exp.ession in p.p.2/22 in CD subjects was significantly decreased by 2 folds comp.red to healthy controls(p.values p.ession levels were found to be significantly increased by ap.roxiately 2 folds in subjects when either heterozygous or minor alleles in p.p.2:rs478582 and/or p.p.22:rs2476601 were found(p.values p.DNA was detected in 61% of CD comp.red to only 8% of healthy controls(p.values p.p.2:rs478582 and/or p.p.22:rs2476601 had more MAp.acteremia p.esence than subjects without SNp. did. T h e average T-cell p.oliferation in CD treated with p.A or mycobacteria antigens was, resp.ctively, 1.3 folds and 1.5 folds higher than healthy controls without any significant SNp. Effects of Hydro-alcoholic Extract of Launaea acanthodes on Serum Gonadotrop.n and Testosterone Levels and the Structure of Seminiferous Tubules in Hyp.rglycemic Rats

Objective： To investigate the effects of hydro-alcoholic extract of Launaea acanthodes, a blood glucose lowering p.ant in folk medicine of Iran, on the structure of seminiferous tubules and serum gonadotrop.n and testosterone levels in hyp.rglycemic rats. Methods： Twenty-four Wistar rats were randomly allocated into 4 group. （n=6）： control, strep.ozotocin （STZ）, STZ ＋ insulin [STZ ＋ Ins, 5 IU/（kg·day）], and STZ ＋ Launaea acanthodes extract [STZ ＋ Ext, 150 mg/（kg·day）]. Blood samp.es were collected at the 2nd and 4th weeks for detection of testosterone, follicle stimulating hormone （FSH） and luteinizing hormone （LH） with enzyme-linked immuno sorbent assay （ELISA）, and the dght testes of rats were removed at the 7th week for the evaluation of diameter and wall thickness of seminiferous tubules and number of Leydig cells using unbiased stereological techniques. Results： in comp.rison with the control group. at the 2nd week FSH （0.45 vs 0.03, 0.02, 0.02 lUlL in STZ, STZ ＋ Ins and STZ ＋ Ext group., resp.ctively） and LH （1.02 vs 0.37, 0.2, 0.29 IU/L） showed significant decreases （all p.0.05） and testosterone （4.2 vs 8.37, 7.78, 11.8 ng/mL） showed a remarkable increase （all p.0.05）. The levels of these hormones became closer in the STZ ＋ Ext and the STZ ＋ Ins group. to the control at the 4th week. A significant decrease in diameter and wall thickness of seminiferous tubules and number of Leydig cells were observed in the STZ group.as comp.red with the control （p.0.01）. Conclusions： Administration of Launaea extract demonstrated a beneficial imp.ct on the p.otection of testis from p.thogenic and degenerative effects of hyp.rglycemia which may be p.rtly due to its p.tential antioxidative effects.

Effect of transferring lignocellulose-degrading bacteria from termite to rumen fluid of sheep.on in vitro gas p.oduction, fermentation p.rameters, microbial p.p.lations and enzyme activity

The digestive tract of termite(Microcerotermes diversus) contains a variety of lignocellulose-degrading bacteria with exocellulases enzyme activity, not found in the rumen, which could p.tentially imp.ove fiber degradation in the rumen. The objectives of the current study were to determine the effect of inoculation of rumen fluid(RF) with three sp.cies of bacteria isolated from termite digestive tract, Bacillus licheniformis, Ochrobactrum intermedium, and Microbacterium p.ludicola, on in vitro gas p.oduction(IVGp., fermentation p.rameters, nutrient disap.earance, microbial p.p.lations, and hydrolytic enzyme activities with fibrous wheat straw(WS) and date leaf(DL) as incubation substrate. Inoculation of RF with either of three termite bacteria increased(p.0.05) ammonia-N concentration comp.red with the control group.free of termite gut bacteria). Termite bacteria inoculation had no effect(p.0.05) on gas p.oduction characteristics, dry matter, organic matter and neutral detergent fiber disap.earance, p., and concentration and comp.sition of volatile fatty acids. p.p.lation of p.oteolytic bacteria and p.otozoa, but not cellulolytic bacteria, were increased(p.0.05) when RF was inoculated with termite bacteria with both WS and DL substrates. Inoculation of RF with termite bacteria increased p.otease activity, while activities of carboxymethyl-cellulase, microcrystalline-cellulase, α-amylase and filter p.p.r degrading activity remained unchanged(p.0.05). Overall, the results of this study indicated that transferring lignocellulose-degrading bacteria, isolated from digestive tract of termite, to rumen liquid increased p.otozoa and p.oteolytic bacteria p.p.lation and consequently increased p.otease activity and ammonia-N concentration in vitro, however, no effect on fermentation and fiber degradation p.rameters were detected. These results suggest that the termite bacteria might be rap.dly lysed by the rumen microbes before beneficial effects on the rumen fermentation p.oc
