On the Communication Requirements for the Smart Grid

The current power grid is facing many challenges that it was not designed or engineered to handle which range from congestions and major blackouts to the overwhelming increase in demand and security concerns. The current electric grid was established before the 1960’s. It is believed that the electric grid is the most complex and gigantic machine ever made in human history;it consists of wires, cables, towers, transformers and circuit breakers installed together in outdated manner. During the 60’s, computers and sensors were used to monitor and slightly control the grid;however, fifty years later these sensors are considered less than ideal. Presented here is a review of the smart grid communication network in terms of configuration, bandwidth and latency requirements as well as the technology used. We simulate the access layer of the smart grid net-work and show that no single available communication technology can be used for all layers of the smart grid;thus, different technologies for different layers are needed. A new protocol for optimizing the smart grid is recommended.

Equivalence Problems in Translation

Equivalence is an important notion in translation theory. Therefore, theorists in the field of translation studies are interested in studying and examining this notion in order to discover its effect on the way a translator deals with a text. The aim of this study is to explore the different definitions of translation as a process and as a product. The study focuses on specific definitions that have been introduced by Arab scholars in the field of translation, for example, AI-zarqani （1998） who argued that translation is an act of transferring a text with all its meanings and objectives from one language to another. This idea of transferring the different meanings and objectives of a given text imposes an important question that the researcher tries to answer in this paper. Is translation a process of substituting a text in one language for a text in another？ After reviewing the related literature and by analyzing different translated passages from Arabic and English, it shows that translation is not a mere substitution of texts among languages. The translator must be aware of the objectives and meanings conveyed in the source text in order to produce an accurate translation.

Aim： To evaluate the protective effects of ginger （Gin） and roselle （Ros） against testicular damage and oxidative stress in a cisplatin （CIS）-induced rodent model. Their protective effects against CIS-induced apoptosis in testicular and epididymal sperms is also investigated. Methods： Ethanol extracts of Gin or Ros （1 g/***） were given orally to male albino rats for 26 days. This period began 21 days before a single CIS intraperitoneal injection （10 mg/kg body weight）. Results： Gin or Ros given orally significantly restored reproductive function. Both tested extracts notably reduced the CIS-induced reproductive toxicity, as evidenced by restoring the testis normal morphology. In Gin and Ros, the attenuation of CIS-induced damage was associated with less apoptotic cell death both in the testicular tissue and in the sperms. CIS-induced alterations of testicular lipid peroxidation were markedly improved by these plant extracts. Conclusion： The present results provide further insights into the mechanisms of protection against CIS-induced reproductive toxicity and confirm the essential anti-oxidant potential of both examined extracts. （Asian J Androl 2008 Mar; 10： 291-297）

Enhancing the Odd Peaks Detection in OFDM Systems Using Wavelet Transforms

This work aims to study the effect of unwanted peaks and enhance the performance of wireless systems on the basis of tackling such peaks. A new proposition has been made based on wavelet transform method and its entropy. Signals with large peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) will be examined such as the ones that are considered as the major Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems drawbacks. Furthermore, aspatial diversity Multiple-Input Multiple- Out-put (MIMO) technology is used to overcome the complexity addition that could arise in our proposition. To draw the best performance of this work, a MATLAB simulation has been used;it is divided into three main stages, namely, MIMO-OFDM symbols’ reconstruction based on wavelet transform, a predetermined thresholding formula, and finally, moving filter. This algorithm is called Peaks’ detection based Entropy Wavelet Transform;PD-EWT. Based on the simulation, and under some constrains such as the bandwidth occupancy and the complexity structure of the transceivers, a peak detection ratio has been achieved and reaches around 0.85. Comparing with our previously published works, the PD-EWT enhances detection ratio for 0.25 more peaks.

BACKGROUND Anaplastic thyroid cancer(ATC)is an aggressive,rare malignancy associated with rapid growth and metastasis,and a very poor *** investigated the clinical characteristics,survival outcomes and independent prognostic factors associated with anaplastic thyroid *** To assess to what extent the interaction between age and tumor stage affects *** A total of 622 patients diagnosed with anaplastic thyroid cancer,between 2010 and 2017 were enrolled in our study by retrieving data from the Surveillance,Epidemiology and End Results(SEER)*** analyzed demographics,clinical characteristics,overall mortality(OM)and cancer specific mortality(CSM)of *** with a P value<0.1 were incorporated into the multivariate cox model to determine the independent prognostic ***,we analyzed the interaction between age and tumor stage on *** In the multivariate analyses,the divorced/separated population had a lower OM[hazard ratio(HR)=0.63,95%CI:0.42-0.94,P<0.05]and CSM(HR=0.61,95%CI:0.40-0.92,P<0.05).OM was higher in tumors with direct extension only(HR=6.26,95%CI:1.29-30.42,P<0.05)and tumors with distant spread(HR=5.73,95%CI:1.34-24.51,P<0.05).CSM was also higher in tumors with direct extension(HR=5.05,95%CI:1.05-24.19,P<0.05)and tumors with distant spread(HR=4.57,95%CI:1.08-19.29,P<0.05).Mortality was not adversely affected by lymph node *** was lower in patients who received radiation(HR=0.66,95%CI:0.53-0.83,P<0.01),chemotherapy(HR=0.63,95%CI:0.50-0.79,P<0.01)or surgery(HR=0.53,95%CI:0.43-0.66,P<0.01).CSM was also lower in patient who received radiation(HR=0.64,95%CI:0.51-0.81,P<0.01),chemotherapy(HR=0.62,95%CI:0.50-0.78,P<0.01)or surgery(HR=0.51,95%CI:0.41-0.63,P<0.01).There was no significant interaction between age and tumor stage that affected *** In this large US SEER database retrospective study,we found the mortality to be higher in advanced stage tumors with direct extensi

The purpose of this paper is to propose a computational technique for evaluating the reliability of networks subject to stochastic failures. In this computation, a mathematical model is provided using a technique which incorporates the effect of the factoring decomposition theorem using polygon-to-chain and series-parallel reductions. The algorithm proceeds by identifying iteratively one of seven polygons and when it is discovered, the polygon is immediately removed and replaced by a simple chain after having changed the individual values of the reliability of each edge and each node of the polygon. Theoretically, the mathematical development follows the results presented by Satyanarayana & Wood and Theologou & Carlier. The computation process is recursively performed and less constrained in term of execution time and memory space, and generates an exact value of the reliability.

The impact of certain separate characteristics, including the porosity parameter, reaction rate parameter, and viscoelastic parameters of steady convective diffusion across a rectangular channel, has been investigated in this article. The model’s momentum and concentration equations were developed using the similarities technique, and the numerically finite volume method was combined with the Beavers and Joseph slip conditions. Various graphs have been used to get insight into various parameters of the problem on velocity and concentration. The cartilage surfaces are assumed to be porous, and the viscosity of synovial fluid varies with hyaluronate (HA) content.

In this paper, a two-dimensional nonlinear coupled Gray Scott system is simulated with a finite difference scheme and a finite volume technique. Pre and post-processing lead to a new solution called GSmFoam by understanding geometry settings and mesh information. The concentration profile changes over time, as does the intensity of the contour patterns. The OpenFoam solver gives you the confidence to compare the pattern result with efficient numerical algorithms on the Gray Scott model.

This research paper represents a numerical approximation to three interesting equations of Fisher, which are linear, non-linear and coupled linear one dimensional reaction diffusion equations from population genetics. We studied accuracy in term of L∞ error norm by random selected grids along time levels for comparison with exact results. The test example demonstrates the accuracy, efficiency and versatility of the proposed schemes. It is shown that the numerical schemes give better solutions. Moreover, the schemes can be easily applied to a wide class of higher dimension non-linear reaction diffusion equations.
