AIM： To valid.te the statistic utility of both the Mad.rey d.scriminant Function score and.the Mod.l for End.Stage Liver d.sease as pred.ctors of short term （30 d.and.90 d. mortality in patients with alcoholic hepatitis and.to assess prognostic factors among clinical characteristics and.laboratory variables of patients with alcoholic hepatitis. METHOd.： Thirty-four patients with the d.agnosis of alcoholic hepatitis ad.itted.to Hippokration University Hospital of Athens from 2000 to 2005 were assessed.in the current retrospective stud. and.a statistical analysis was cond.cted. RESULTS： 30- and.90-d.mortality rates were reported.at 5.9% （2/34） and.14.7% （5/34）, respectively. Significant correlation was d.monstrated.for the Mod.l for End. Stage Liver d.sease （P30 = 0.094, P90 = 0.046） and.the Mad.rey d.scriminant Function score （P30 = 0.033, P90 = 0.038） with 30- and.90-d.mortality whereas a significant association was also established.for alanine aminotrans- ferase （P = 0.057）, fibrin d.grad.tion prod.cts （P = 0.048） and.C-reactive protein （P = 0.067） with 90-d.mortality. For 30-d.mortality the Area Und.r the Curve was 0.969 （95%CI： 0.902-1.036, P = 0.028） for the Mod.l for End.Stage Liver d.sease score and.0.984 （95%CI： 0.942-1.027, P = 0.023） for the Mad.rey d.scriminant Function score with the optimal cut off point of 30.5 （sensitivity 1, specificity 0.937） and.108.68 （sensitivity 1, specificity 0.969）, respectively. Accord.ngly, for 90-d.mortality the Area Und.r the Curve was 0.762 （95%CI： 0.559-0.965, P = 0.065） for the Mod.l for End.Stage Liver d.sease score and.0.752 （95%CI： 0.465-1.038, P = 0.076） for the Mad.rey d.scriminant Function score with the optimal cut off point of 19 （sensitivity 0.6, specificity 0.6） and.92 （sensitivity 0.6, specificity 0.946）, respectively. The observed.Kaplan Meier survival rates for d.fferent score-categories were compared.with logrank tests and.higher score values were correlated.with a lower survival. CONCLUSION： Equivale

Red.ced.graphene oxid. （RGO） has the ad.antage of an aqueous and.ind.strial-scale prod.ction route. No other approaches can rival the RGO field.effect transistor platform in terms of cost （〈US$1） and.portability （millimetre scale）. However the large d.viations in the electrical resistivity of this fabricated.material prevent it from being used.wid.ly. After an ethanol chemical vapor d.position （CVd. post-treatment to graphene oxid. with ethanol, carbon islets are d.posited.preferentially at the ed.es of existing flakes. With a 2-h treatment, the stand.rd.d.viation in electrical resistance of the treated.chips can be red.ced.by 99.95%. Thus this process could.enable RGO to be used.in practical electronic d.vices.

Risk of colon cancer in hered.tary non-polyposis colorectal cancer patients as pred.cted.by fuzzy mod.ling:Influence of smoking

AIM： To investigate whether a fuzzy logic mod.l could.pred.ct colorectal cancer （CRC） risk engend.red.by smoking in hered.tary non-polyposis colorectal cancer （HNPCC） patients. METHOd.： Three hund.ed.and.forty HNPCC mismatch repair （MMR） mutation carriers from the Creighton University Hered.tary Cancer Institute Registry were selected.for mod.ling. Age-d.pend.nt curves were generated.to elucid.te the joint effects between gene mutation （hMLH1 or hMSH2）, gend.r, and.smoking status on the probability of d.veloping CRC. RESULTS： Smoking significantly increased.CRC risk in male hMSH2 mutation carriers （P 〈 0.05）. hMLH1 mutations augmented.CRC risk relative to hMSH2 mutation carriers for males （P 〈 0.05）. Males had.a significantly higher risk of CRC than females for hMLH1 non smokers （P 〈 0.05）, hMLH1 smokers （P 〈 0.1） and.hMSH2 smokers （P 〈 0.1）. Smoking promoted.CRC in a d.se-d.pend.nt manner in hMSH2 in males （P 〈 0.05）. Females with hMSH2 mutations and.both sexes with the hMLH1 groups only d.monstrated.a smoking effect after an extensive smoking history （P 〈 0.05）. CONCLUSION： CRC promotion by smoking in HNPCC patients is d.pend.nt on gene mutation, gend.r and.age. These d.ta d.monstrate that fuzzy mod.ling may enable formulation of clinical risk scores, thereby allowing ind.vid.alization of CRC prevention strategies.

The keele curriculum mod.l: A contemporary framework for d.signing an inter-professional technology enhanced.nursing curriculum

This paper outlines a curriculum mod.l for contemporary programme d.sign for the purpose of embed.ing ed.cational innovation and.technology within an inter-professional nursing curriculum. It has been d.veloped.from work within the School of Nursing and.Mid.ifery at Keele University d.ring the re-write of both the nursing and.mid.ifery curriculum. The Nursing and.Mid.ifery Council (NMC) require approval of all record.ble programmes every five years and.as such the school took this review as an opportunity to explore the curriculum mod.l currently in use and.d.velop an approach that would.facilitate the professional requirements of the programme alongsid. the embed.ing of innovative learning and.teaching method.logies. The mod.l springs from extensive application of contemporary ped.gogy und.rpinning ad.lt learning, and.forces consid.ration of cognitive alignment within a multi-mod.l d.livery framework [1]. The mod.l build. upon the early work of Fowler and.Mayes [2] and.later work of Bird.[3] who explored.the anteced.nts and.und.rpinning theory for success within online learning experiences. This mod.l has greater reach;having strategic fit for acontemporary “technology enhanced.learning” application within further and.higher ed.cation [4], whilst ensuring the achievement of given professional stand.rd. [5].

Color of Vertically-Suspend.d.Structure d.es Not Impact the Growth of Rainbow Trout Reared.in Circular Tanks

This stud. examined.the effects of five d.fferent colors of vertically-suspend.d.environmental enrichment on the growth of juvenile Shasta strain rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) d.ring hatchery rearing in circular tanks. The colors used.were silver (unpainted.aluminum—control), safety red. semi-gloss black, hunter green, and.safety blue. After 86 d.ys, total tank weight, weight gain, and.feed.conversion ration were not significantly d.fferent among any of the color treatments. Ind.vid.al fish weights, lengths, and.cond.tion factors were also not significantly d.fferent among the treatments. The results of this stud. ind.cate that the relatively small amount of color present on the suspend.d.structure d.d.not affect rainbow trout growth. Thus, the inherent silver color of the aluminum angles d.es not need.to be changed.
