Clinical and impression cytology findings of amniotic membrane and oral mucosal membrane transplantation for the management of socket contracture

AIM:To investigate and compare the cytopathological and clinical effects of amniotic membrane transplantation(AMT)and oral mucosal membrane transplantation(OMMT)in socket ***:Twelve patients who could not be fitted with ocular prosthesis due to socket contracture were included in this *** patients underwent AMT and 5 patients underwent *** patients who had healthy sockets were included as control *** of inferior fornix,degree of inflammation,extent of the socket contracture and socket volume were measured in the preoperative period and at sixth and twelfth weeks *** cytology of conjunctival fornices and tear transforming growth factor beta-1(TGFβ1)levels were ***:In the AMT group,socket volume and lower fornix depth values were significantly higher(P=0.030and P=0.004 respectively)and inflammation levels and impression cytology stages(P=0.037 and P=0.022respectively)were significantly lower in postoperative period compared to preoperative *** the OMMT group,no statistical differences were found in terms of clinical parameters,inflammation levels and impression cytology stages of preoperative versus postoperative *** tear TGFβ1 levels were higher in AMT and OMMT groups compared to the control group(25.5 ng/mL,26.3 ng/mL and 21.7 ng/mL respectively).Decreased tear TGFβ1 levels were observed in both the AMT and OMMT groups postoperatively(median decrease value=2.1 ng/mL and 2.7 ng/mL respectively).CONCLuSION:AMT is associated with postoperative improvement in inferior fornix depth,socket volume,inflammation and impression cytology levels and may bea more proper alternative method than OMMT in the management of socket contracture.

Modeling of dynamic response of poroelastic soil layers under wave loading

In this paper, the dynamic response of saturated and layered soils under harmonic waves is modeled using the finite element method. The numerical results are then verified by corresponding analytical solutions which are also developed by the author. The equations governing the dynamics of porous media are written in their fully dynamic form and possible simplifications are introduced based on the presence of inertial terms associated with solid and fluid phases. The response variations are presented in terms of pore water pressure and shear stress distributions within the layers. It is determined that a set of non-dimensional parameters and their respective ratios as a result of layering play a major role in the dynamic response.

Interaction between seed size and NaCl on germination and early seedling growth of some Turkish cultivars of chickpea(Cicer arietinum L.)

Chickpea is an important food legume crop of Turkey and is largely grown for human consumption on low moisture or salt-affected soils. The objective of the study was to find the effects of NaCl stress at electrical conductivities of 4.5, 8.6, 12.7 and 16.3 dS/m and seed sizes （7, 8 and 9 mm） on germination and early seedling growth of three popular chickpea cultivars （AKN-97, Gokce and uzunlu-99）. Mean frequency of germination, germination time, germination index, root length, shoot length and seedling fresh weight showed seed size-dependent responses ofcultivars to salt stress. In general, small seeds germinated and grew more rapidly compared to medium and large seeds of the same cultivars against all levels of salt stress, with the best results in cultivar uzunlu-99. No effect of NaCl treatments was observed on frequency of germination; however, a drastic decrease in early seedling growth was recorded at increased NaC1 concentrations. Regression analysis results showed a significantly positive relationship （P〈0.01） between seed size and mean germination time, whereas a significantly negative relationship was recorded between seed size and germination index, root length, shoot length. Moreover, linear regression values apparently confirmed that increased seed size in each cultivar affected decreased germination index, root and shoot lengths with enhanced mean germination time. Thus, it was concluded that the use of small seeds could considerably reduce the production costs of chickpea in salt-affected soils.

This paper presents the development and implementation of an innovative mixed integer programming based mathematical model for an open pit mining operation with Grade Engineering *** Engineering comprises a range of coarse-separation based pre-processing techniques that separate the desirable(***-grade)and undesirable(***-grade or uneconomic)materials and ensure the delivery of only selected quantity of high quality(or high-grade)material to energy,water,and cost-intensive processing *** model maximizes the net present value under a range of operational and processing *** that the proposed model is computationally complex,the authors employ a data preprocessing procedure and then evaluate the performance of the model at several practical instances using computation time,optimality gap,and the net present value as valid *** addition,a comparison of the proposed and traditional(without Grade Engineering)models reflects that the proposed model outperforms the traditional formulation.

Mineralogical and Petrological Characteristics of the Neoproterozoic Orthoamphibolite and Orthogneisses in the Mutki area,the Bitlis Massif,Southeast Turkey

The rocks form as amphibolite±garnet±epidote and orthogneisses in the Pan-African basement of the Bitlis *** petrochemical data of the studied metamorphic rocks suggest different igneous protoliths ranging from calcalkaline basalt to andesite in composition. Petrochemically,the rocks can be classified as group 1（low Zr and La） and group 2（high Zr and La）, all showing various enrichments in large ion lithophiles and light rare earth elements,and a depletion in high-field strength elements,suggestive of a destructive plate margin *** protoliths of the all samples might have formed mostly by the partial melting of an enriched source,possibly coupled with the fractional crystallization of plagioclase,apatite,and titaniferous magnetite±olivine±clinopyroxene±amphibole in relation with subduction-related magmatism neighboring the Andeantype active margins of *** group 2 samples could,however,be generated by a relatively lower degree of the partial melting of an inhomogeneous source with a preponderance of a high-level, fractional crystallization process in comparison to group *** protoliths of the samples were metamorphosed up to amphibolite facies conditions,which destroys original igneous texture and mineral *** calculations show that the metamorphic rocks are finally equilibrated between 540 and 610℃and～5 kbars,following a clockwise P-T-t path.

Applications of Engineering Seismology for Site Characterization

We determined the seismic model of the soil column within a residential project site in Istanbul, Turkey. Specifically, we conducted a refraction seismic survey at 20 locations using a receiver spread with 484.5-Hz vertical geophones at 2-m intervals. We applied nonlinear tomography to first-arrival times to estimate the P-wave velocity-depth profiles and performed Rayleigh-wave inversion to estimate the S-wave velocity-depth profiles down to a depth of 30 m at each of the locations. We then combined the seismic velocities with the geotechnical borehole information regarding the lithology of the soil column and determined the site-specific geotechnical earthquake engineering parameters for the site. Specifically, we computed the maximum soil amplification ratio, maximum surface-bedrock acceleration ratio, depth interval of significant acceleration, maximum soil-rock response ratio, and design spectrum periods TA-TB. We conducted reflection seismic surveys along five line traverses with lengths between 150 and 300 m and delineated landslide failure surfaces within the site. We recorded shot gathers at 2-m intervals along each of the seismic line traverses using a receiver spread with 4 840-Hz vertical geophones at 2-m intervals. We applied nonlinear tomography to first-arrival times to estimate a P-wave velocity-depth model and analyzed the reflected waves to obtain a seismic image of the deep near-surface along each of the line traverses.

Determination of threshing and separation unit performance of rosemary(Rosmarinus officinalis)plants

Rosemary(Rosmarinus officinalis L.)is an important perennial medicinal and aromatic plant belonging to the Lamiaceae *** is widely produced in Turkey for its oil which can be extracted from the plants when flowers are in *** Turkey,a significant amount of domestic and foreign trade of rosemary is *** 2018-2020,2088 t of rosemary plants were imported,while in the same years 2077 t were *** this study,the performance indexes of a threshing and separating unit designed according to the physicomechanical properties of the rosemary were *** operating parameters of the machine were determined at three different moisture contents and adjusted according to the harvest moisture *** threshing efficiency,work efficiency,power requirement,and specific energy consumption values of the threshing unit were determined,while separating efficiency,work efficiency and specific power consumption of separating unit of the developed system were *** to the study results,the threshing efficiency of the rosemary plant varied between 44.00%and 96.97%.Work efficiency of the thresher varied between 1.18 and 15.34 kg/*** requirements and specific energy consumption of the threshing unit were obtained as 0.19-1.05 kW and 0.02-0.37 kW·h/h,*** the other hand,the separating efficiency of the separating unit for the rosemary plant varied between 44.27%and 85.24%.Maximum and minimum values of work efficiency were found as 0.75 kg/h and 5.52 kg/*** power consumption of the unit ranged from 3.95 to 39.95 kW/kg.

Common telomerase reverse transcriptase promoter mutations in hepatocellular carcinomas from different geographical locations

AIM: To determine the mutation status of human telomerase reverse transcriptase gene(TERT) promoter region in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) from different geographical ***: We analyzed the genomic DNA sequences of 59 HCC samples comprising 15 cell lines and 44 primary tumors,collected from patients living in Asia,Europe and *** amplified a 474 bp DNA fragment of the promoter region of TERT gene including the 1295228 and 1295250 sequence of chromosome 5 by using *** were then sequenced by Sanger technique and the sequence data were analyzed with by using DNADynamo software in comparison with wild type TERT gene sequence as a ***: The TERT mutations were found highly frequent in *** of the fifteen tested cell lines displayed C228 T mutation,and one had C250 T mutation with a mutation frequency up to 60%.All of the mutations were heterozygous and mutually *** out of forty-four tumors displayed C228 T mutation,and additional five tumors had C250 T mutation providing evidence for mutation frequency of 34% in primary *** the geographic origins of HCC tumors tested,TERT promoter mutation frequencies were higher in African(53%),when compared to non-African(24%) tumors(P = 0.056).There was also a weak inverse correlation between TERT promoter mutations and murine double minute 2 single nucleotide polymorphism 309 TG polymorphism(P = 0.058).Mutation frequency was nearly two times higher in established HCC celllines(60%) compared to the primary tumors(34%).CONCLuSION: TERT promoter is one of most frequent mutational targets in liver cancer,and hepatocellular carcinogenesis is highly associated with the loss of telomere-dependent cellular senescence control.
