Anisotropy of Magnetic Susceptibility(AMS)data from a~27.8 m thick soft sedimentary mud sequence(~10.5-3.25 k yrs)from the Spituk Palaeolake Sequence(SPSS)of Holocene age,located in the northern bank of the Indus River in the Leh-Ladakh Himalaya,show effects of tectonic versus climate dynamics responsible for the Himalayan *** sedimentary sequence,consisting of alternating of aeolian sand and glacio-fluvial mud flow deposits,has been subdivided into an older Last Glacier Phase I(LGP 1)and a younger Last Glacier Phase II(LGP 2),where the termination of each phase is marked by the occurrence of gravel beds of thickness≤1 m,which were deposited due to glacial *** present AMS data along with previously published information on sedimentology confirm that the mudflow deposits of the LGP 1 and LGP 2phases were deposited in a lacustrine environment under glacio-fluvial ***,a weak fluvial flow towards NW and NE could have existed for the LGP 1 and LGP 2,*** glacial beds terminating LGP 1 and LGP 2 appear to have formed by climatic warming and tectonic activity,***,the Holocene Himalayan sedimentation was influenced by both climatic and tectonic ***,the thickness of the gravel bed(~0.8 m)terminating LGP 2 occupies only~2.8 vol%of the total studied thickness~28 m,of the SPSS in the present study,which indicated a lesser control of tectonism in the growth of the Himalaya in and around the study area.

A well-known adsorbent, poly(amidoxime)ligand, was prepared from polyacrylonitrile(PAN) grafted kenaf cellulose, and subsequent characterization was performed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),field emission scanning electron microscope(FESEM) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS).The adsorption capacities of the prepared ligand for rare earth metals are found to be excellent, with adsorptions of La^(3+), Ce^(3+), Pr^(3+), Gd^(3+) and Nd^(3+) experimentally determined to be 262, 255, 244, 241 and 233 mg·g^(-1), respectively, at pH 6. The experimental values of the adsorption of rare earth metals are well matched with the pseudosecond-order rate equation. The reusability of the adsorbent is examined for seven cycles of sorption/desorption,demonstrating that the proposed adsorbent could be reused for over seven cycles without any significant loss in the original removal capability of the ligand.

Human induced pluripotent stem （hiPS） cells are considered a potential source for the generation of insulin-producing pancreatic β-ceUs because of their differentiation capacity. In this study, we have developed a five-step xeno-free culture system to efficiently dif- ferentiate hiPS cells into insulin-producing cells in vitro. We found that a high NOGGIN concentration is crucial for specifically inducing the differentiation first into pancreatic and duodenal homeobox-1 （PDX1）-positive pancreatic progenitors and then into neurogenin 3 （NGN3）-expressing pancreatic endocrine progenitors, while suppressing the differentiation into hepatic or intestinal cells. We also found that a combination of 3-isobutyl-l-methylxanthine （IBMX）, exendin-4, and nicotinamide was important for the differentiation into insulin single-positive cells that expressed various pancreatic β-cell markers. Most notably, the differentiated cells contained en- dogenous C-peptide pools that were released in response to various insulin secretagogues and high levels of glucose. Therefore, our results demonstrate the feasibility of generating hiPS-derived pancreatic β-ceUs under xeno-free conditions and highlight their poten- tial to treat patients with type I diabetes.

Environmental and Health Impacts from Slaughter Houses Located on the City Outskirts: A Case Study

This paper explores the location of slaughter houses in the city outskirts, describes its functioning and explores its impact on the environment and health of residents living in its vicinity. A medium sized city of North India, Aligarh, was selected for the case study. The study is mainly based on primary sources of data collected through survey of city ouskirts, slaughter houses, villages and households located in its vicinity. For in-depth investigation, 2 slaughter houses located in the outskirts, 460 households living in the vicinity of these slaughter houses (0 to 3 km) were randomly selected for sampling. Data were collected with the help of questionnaire. Field surveys revealed that there were innumerable authorized and unauthorized slaughter houses inside the city, Makdoomnagar was the oldest one (1995), individual households in many parts of the city were slaughtering animals in one room, the city outskirts had 6 big slaughter houses and meat processing units and innumerable open illegal ones. Investigations revealed that all the slaughter houses suffer from very low hygienic standards posing both environment and health hazards due to discrete disposal of waste, highly polluted effluent discharge, burning and boiling of bones, hooves, fat, meat, etc. The results show that for the residents living in the immediate vicinity of the slaughter house, both the environmental conditions and their health conditions were worst.

The synthesis and structure of hexagonal boron carbonitride (h-BCN) film on polycrystalline diamond surface were reported. Polycrystalline diamond and/or diamond-like carbon were first fabricated on Si (100) and then diamond like carbon was used as substrate. The deposition was performed by radio frequency plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition. In order to reduce the content of nitrogen void defects, the deposition was performed at the high temperature of 950°C under the working pressure of 2.6 Pa. The typical sample with atomic composition of B31 C37 N26 O6 in the h-BCN lattice was characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The fine structure of the film was studied by near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) measurements. The B K-edge and N K-edge of NEXAFS spectra revealed that the synthesized h-BCN film had the ideal honeycomb- like BN3 configuration without nitrogen void defects.

Hexagonal nano-crystalline boron carbonitride (h-BCN) films grown on Si (100) substrate have been precisely investigated. The films were synthesized by radio frequency plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition using tris-dimethylamino borane as a single-source molecular precursor. The deposition was performed by setting RF power at 400 - 800 W. The reaction pressure was at 2.6 Pa and the substrate temperature was recorded at 700°C - 800°C. Formation of the nano-crystalline h-BCN compound has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. The diffraction peaks at 26.3° together with a small unknown peak at 29.2° were elucidated due to the formation of an h-BCN structure. The films composed of B, C, and N atoms with different B-N, B-C, C-N chemical bonds in forming the sp2-BCN atomic configuration studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Orientation and local structures of the h-BCN hybrid were studied by near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) measurements. The dominant presence of p* and s* resonance peaks of the sp2-hybrid orbitals in the B K-edge NEXAFS spectra revealed the formation of the sp2-BCN configuration around B atoms like-BN3 in h-BN. The orientation was suggested on the basis of the polarization dependence of B K-edge and N K-edge of the NEXAFS spectra.

Objective:Cytopathic effects and local immune response were analyzed histologically in prostatic cancer(PCa)with in situ herpes simplex virus-thymidine kinase(HSV-tk)/ganciclovir(GCV)gene therapy(GT).Methods:Four high-risk PCa patients who received HSV-tk/GCV GT were *** two cycles of intraprostatic injection of HSV-tk and administration of GCV,radical prostatectomy was ***-fixed,paraffin-embedded sections were evaluated using *** with hormone therapy(HT,n=3)or without neoadjuvant therapy(NT,n=4)that were equivalent in terms of risk were also examined as ***-positive cells were counted in at least three areas in cancer *** indices(LI)were calculated as percentage ***:ssDNA LI in GT increased,indicating apoptosis,as well as tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and CD68-positive macrophages,compared with their *** cases showed significantly higher numbers of single-stranded DNA(ssDNA)LI,CD4/CD8-positive T cells and CD68-positive macrophages including M1/M2 macrophages than HT or NT ***,there was no significant difference in CD20-positive B cells among the types of *** were strong correlations between CD8+T cells and CD68+macrophages(ρ=0.656,p<0.0001)as well as CD4+T cells and CD20+B cells(ρ=0.644,p<0.0001)in PCa with ***:Enhanced cytopathic effect and local immune response might be indicated in PCa patients with HSV-tk/GCV gene therapy.

The study assessed petroleum systems in the southern Bida Basin,Nigeria,focusing on the Cretaceous *** comprise Lokoja and Patti Formation sandstones,while shales,claystone,and siltstone serve as source rocks and stratigraphic traps/*** studies delineating the key elements of the petroleum systems in the basin have not been conducted due to a lack of subsurface *** goal of the current study was to use field observations,Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and geochemical and geomechanical data to evaluate key components of petroleum systems in the southern Bida *** results presented in this investigation are intended to attain specific objectives,especially those lacking in the basin's study *** analysis revealed that the Lokoja Sandstone has porosity of 37%-39.5%and moderate permeability of 23.22-42.29 *** Patti Formation sandstone reservoirs exhibited high porosity(38%-42%)and moderate to good permeability(31.54-66.48 md),suggesting good potential *** results revealed intragranular pores and micro-fractures in the Patti Shale,whereas the sandstone reservoirs in the Lokoja and Patti formations displayed fractures,facilitating hydrocarbon *** was the dominant mineral in the sandstone units of both *** analysis revealed that brittle and clay minerals influenced the microstructure of Patti *** analysis indicated promising petroleum potential in the Patti Shale,with a total organic carbon(TOC)content of 1.87 wt%,free hydrocarbon from kerogen(S1)of 0.41 mg/g,hydrogen index(HI)of 0.75 mg HC/g TOC,and production index(PI)of *** Patti and Lokoja formations'shale,claystone,and siltstone exhibited sealing potential,with a plasticity index of 24-35 and coefficient permeability of 2.8×10^(-4)-3.6×10^(-4)cm/*** studies,XRD,geochemical data,and geomechanical index values have confirmed the key components of the petroleum system,which in turn

Drought is one of the critical limitations to agricultural soils and crop *** of water is increasing due to climate change that lead to increasing threats to global food ***,ecofriendly and cost effective strategies are highly desirable for mitigating drought stress along with sustainable and smart agricultural *** aim of the study was to mitigate DS using seed priming and exogenous supplementation ofβ-aminobutyric acid(baba)in linseed(Linum usitatissimum L.).Different doses(0,50,100 and 150μM)of baba were used for seed priming agent and foliar spraying under three soil moisture levels viz.,25%(SM25),45%(SM45)and 65%(SM65).The response variables of both experiments included different agro-botanical traits and oxidative stress indicators such as melondialdehyde content,free proline accumulation,and antioxidant defense in *** linseed plants showed water stress at SM25 that reduced plant height,number of branches per plant,time taken to flower initiation and heading,and root and shoot dry ***,the number of capsules and seeds per capsule showed a significant decline at SM25,which led to a drastic reduction in 100-seed weight yield in linseed plants in both ***,seed priming and foliar supplementation with of baba(50–100μM)significantly improved these morpho-agronomical attributes in linseed plants under *** results revealed that the baba was fully active in linseed plants at ***,the combination of SM25 with baba significantly improved the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT),ascorbate peroxidase(APX),and peroxidase(POD)activity,which significantly enhanced DS tolerance in linseed *** findings might be useful to oil seed breeders and farmers linseed for breeding program in linseed plants as well as sustainable agricultural production of oil seed crop plants.
