A migraine is a recurring neurological disorder characterized by unilateral, intense, and pulsatile headaches. In one-third of migraine patients, the attacks are preceded by a visual aura, such as a slowly-propagating scintillating scotoma. Migraine aura is thought to be a result of the neurovascular phenomenon of cortical spreading depression （SD）, a self-propagating wave of depolarization that spreads across the cerebral cortex. Several animal experiments have demonstrated that cortical SD causes intracranial neurogenic inflammation around the meningeal blood vessels, such as plasma protein extravasation and pro-inflammatory peptide release. Cortical SD has also been reported to activate both peripheral and central trigeminal nociceptive pathways. Although several issues remain to be resolved, recent evidence suggests that cortical SD could be the initial trigger of intracranial neurogenic inflammation, which then contributes to migraine headaches via subsequent activation of trigeminal afferents.

BACKGROUND The liver is the most common metastatic site of colorectal *** is the mainstay of treatment for patients with colorectal liver metastases(CRLMs).However,there are cases of early recurrence after upfront hepatectomy *** selected high-risk patients,neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC)may improve longterm *** To determine the efficacy of NAC for initially resectable *** Among 644 patients who underwent their first hepatectomy for CRLMs at our institution,297 resectable cases were stratified into an upfront hepatectomy group(238 patients)and a NAC group(59 patients).Poor prognostic factors for upfront hepatectomy were identified using multivariate logistic regression *** score matching was used to compare clinical outcomes between the upfront hepatectomy and NAC groups,according to the number of poor prognostic *** curves were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared using the log-rank *** Preoperative carcinoembryonic antigen levels(≥10 ng/mL)(P=0.003),primary histological type(other than well/moderately differentiated)(P=0.04),and primary lymph node metastases(≥1)(P=0.04)were identified as independent poor prognostic factors for overall survival(OS)in the upfront hepatectomy ***-risk status was defined as the presence of two or more risk *** propensity score matching,50 patients were matched in each *** high-risk patients,the 5-year OS rate was significantly higher in the NAC group(13 patients)than in the upfront hepatectomy group(18 patients)(100%vs 34%;P=0.02).CONCLUSION NAC may improve the prognosis of high-risk patients with resectable CRLMs who have two or more risk factors.

In this paper, we are concerned with the uniqueness and the non-degeneracy of positive radial solutions for a class of semilinear elliptic equations. Using detailed ODE anal- ysis, we extend previous results to cases where nonlinear terms may have sublinear growth. As an application, we obtain the uniqueness and the non-degeneracy of ground states for modified SchrSdinger equations.

Discharge Characteristics of DC Arc Water Plasma for Environmental Applications

A water plasma was generated by DC arc discharge with a hafnium embedded rodtype cathode and a nozzle-type anode. The discharge characteristics were examined by changing the operation parameter of the arc current. The dynamic behavior of the arc discharge led to significant fluctuations in the arc voltage and its frequency. Analyses of the high speed image and the arc voltage waveform showed that the arc discharge was in the restrike mode and its frequency varied within several tens of kilohertz according to the operating conditions. The larger thermal plasma volume was generated by the higher flow from the forming steam with a higher restrike frequency in the higher arc current conditions. In addition, the characteristics of the water plasma jet were investigated by means of optical emission spectroscopy to identify the abundant radicals required in an efficient waste treatment process.

Supernumerary tooth in the upper central incisor region is called mesiodens. Mesiodens causes serious complications such as displacement, retarded eruption, and rotation in the adjacent permanent incisors, inducing inhibition of oral development. This report was aimed to provide epidemiology of mesiodens in Japanese children. Using dental record, panoramic radiographs and images of cone-beam computed tomography in 128 non-syndromic child patients, patients’ age at their first visit, gender composition, shape of mesiodens, position of mesiodens, posture of mesiodens, and age distribution of the patients based on each complication were investigated. In addition to the survey, patient age was compared between the groups with and without each complication. Patients’ age ranged 3 - 10 years old. Male-to-female ratio was approximately 3:1. Conical shape (75%) and inverted position (49%) were the most frequent among the patients. Displacement was the commonest complication. Age comparison indicated that patients with displacement or retarded eruption consulted the dentist younger than those without the complications. The present study provided etiology of mesiodens in Japanese children that will contribute to daily clinical practice in the field of pediatric dentistry.

In this paper,we introduce an effective scatter correction method based on single scatter simulation for the new PET scanner,which accounts for the full 3D scatter *** the results from Monte Carlo simulations,we implement a new scale method with special concentration on scatter events from outside the axial FOV and multiple scatter *** effects of scatter correction are investigated and evaluated by phantom experiments;the results show good improvements in quantitative accuracy and contrast of the images,even for large objects.

A group parameter approach using ＂total organic halogen＂ is effective for monitoring gaseous organic halogen compounds, including fluorine, chlorine, and bromine compounds, generated from combustion. We described the use of barrier-discharge radiofrequency- helium-plasma/atomic emission spectrometry, for the detection of semi- and low-volatile organic halogen compounds （SLVOXs）, which can be collected by CarbotrapTM adsorbents and analyzed using thermal desorpfion. The optimal carder gas flow rates at the injection and desorption lines were established to be 100 mL/min. The detection range for SLVOXs in the gaseous samples was from 10 ng to tens of micrograms. Measuring F was more difficult than measuring C1 or Br, because the wavelength of F is close to that of air. The barrier- discharge radiofrequency-helium-plasma/atomic emission spectrometry measured from 85% to 103% of the SLVOXs in the gas sample. It has been found that Carbotrap B is appropriate for high-boiling-point compounds, and Carbotrap C is suitable for the determination of organic halogen compounds with lower boiling points, in the range 200-230℃. Under optimal analysis conditions, a chlorine- containing plastic was destroyed using different oxygen concentrations. Lower oxygen concentrations resulted in the production of lower amounts of organic halogen compounds.

An innovative in-flight glass melting technology with thermal plasmas was developed for the purpose of energy conservation and environment protection. In this study, modelling and experiments of argon-oxygen induction thermal plasmas were conducted to investigate the melting behaviour of granulated soda-lime glass powders injected into the plasma. A two-dimensional local thermodynamic equilibrium （LTE） model was performed to simulate the heat and momentum transfer between plasma and particle. Results showed that the particle temperature was strongly affected by the flow rate of carrier gas and the particle size of raw material. A higher flow rate of carrier gas led to lower particle temperature and less energy transferred to particles which resulted in lower vitrification. The incomplete melting of large particles was attributed to the lower central temperature of the particle caused by a larger heat capacity. The numerical analysis explained well the experimental results, which can provide valuable practical guidelines for the process control in the melting process for the glass industry.

Banana bunchy top virus （BBTV）（Nanoviridae： Babuvirus） is transmitted by aphids of the genus Pentalonia in a circulative manner. The cellular mechanisms by which BBTV translocates from the anterior midgut to the salivary gland epithelial tissues are not understood. Here, we used multiple fluorescent markers to study the distribution and the cellular localization of early and late endosomes, macropinosomes, lysosomes, microtubules, actin filaments, and lipid raft subdomains in the gut and principal salivary glands ofPentalonia nigronervosa. We applied colabeling assays, to colocalize BBTV viral particles with these cellular compartments and structures. Our results suggest that multiple potential cellular processes, including clathrin- and caveolae-mediated endocytosis and lipid rafts, may not be involved in BBTV internalization.
