Portal vein thrombosis(PVT)represents a well-known complication during the natural course of liver cirrhosis(LC),ranging from asymptomatic cases to lifethreating conditions related to portal hypertension and hepatic *** flow stasis,complex acquired hypercoagulable disorders and exogenous factors leading to endothelial dysfunction have emerged as key factors for PVT ***,PVT occurrence remains unpredictable and many issues regarding its natural history,prognostic significance and treatment are still *** particular although spontaneous resolution or disease stability occur in most cases of PVT,factors predisposing to disease progression or recurrence after spontaneous recanalization are not clarified as ***,PVT impact on LC outcome is still debated,as PVT may represent itself a consequence of liver fibrosis and hepatic dysfunction *** and transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt are considered safe and effective in this setting and are recommended in selected cases,even if the safer therapeutic option and the optimal therapy duration are still ***,their impact on mortality rates should be addressed more *** this review we present the most debated questions regarding PVT,whose answers should come from prospective cohort studies and large sample-size randomized trials.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),the causative agent of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),is responsible for the first pandemic of the 21st *** found in adults,signs and symptoms related to the disease mainly involve the respiratory tract in the paediatric ***,a considerable number of children present with gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting,abdominal pain,and *** purpose of this review is an accurate description,from pathogenesis to clinical presentation,diagnosis and treatment,of COVID-19 effects on the gastrointestinal system at a paediatric ***-CoV-2 can be identified in stool specimens of affected children by real-time polymerase chain reaction *** can last for several weeks after the end of the symptomatic *** signs and symptoms are generally self-limited,can correlate with blood tests and imaging alterations,and may require supportive treatment such as ***,they can precede severe disease manifestations such as the COVID-19-related multisystem inflammatory *** belonging to risk categories such as those affected by celiac disease,inflammatory bowel disease,and hepatic disease seem to not have a more severe course than the others,even if they are undergoing immunosuppressant *** follow-ups of patients with chronic diseases need to be revised during the pandemic period in order to postpone unnecessary tests,mainly endoscopic ones.

BACKGROUND Several cutaneous manifestations such as urticarial rash,erythematous patches and chilblain-like lesions have been described in young adults with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)and are present in up to 20%patients,but few reports exist describing histopathological and immunophenotypic characteristics of dermatological lesions in older *** aim was to characterize skin lesions in elderly patients during late stages of COVID-19 from clinical,histological and immunophenotypic *** SUMMARY Three patients,admitted for COVID-19,and who developed cutaneous manifestations underwent skin *** analysis for CD20,CD3,CD4 and CD8 was performed on skin biopsies to assess immune cell ***1a was used as a marker of Langerhans cells,and CD31 as a marker of endothelial *** the three study patients,cutaneous manifestations were evident in the late-stage of COVID-19(mean time from the first positive severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)swab to rash onset was 35 d).Skin biopsies showed a similar pattern of T lymphocyte infiltration in all ***,a chronic dermatitis with perivascular lymphocytic infiltrate was observed with predominance of CD3+T-cell(CD3+).CONCLUSION Our study confirms previous *** and immunophenotypic patterns in our patients confirm results described in the two previous reported *** pattern is similar to what is found in some lympho-proliferative ***,since these findings are non-specific,SARS-CoV-2 infection should be suspected.

AIM: To verify the impairment of the hepatic lipid metabolism in prehepatic portal hypertension. METHODS: The concentrations of free fatty acids, diacylglycerol, triglycerides, and phospholipids were assayed by using D-[U-14C] glucose incorporation in the different lipid fractions and thin-layer chromatography and cholesterol was measured by spectrophotometry, in liver samples of Wistar rats with partial portal vein ligation at short- (1 mo) and long-term (1 year) (i.e. portal hypertensive rats) and the control rats. RESULTS: In the portal hypertensive rats, liver phospholipid synthesis significantly decreased (7.42 ± 0.50 vs 4.70 ± 0.44 nCi/g protein; P < 0.01) and was associated with an increased synthesis of free fatty acids (2.08 ± 0.14 vs 3.36 ± 0.33 nCi/g protein; P < 0.05), diacylglycerol (1.93 ± 0.2 vs 2.26 ± 0.28 nCi/g protein), triglycerides (2.40 ± 0.30 vs 4.49 ± 0.15 nCi/g protein) and cholesterol (24.28 ± 2.12 vs 57.66 ± 3.26 mg/g protein; P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Prehepatic portal hypertension in rats impairs the liver lipid metabolism. This impairment consists in an increase in lipid deposits (triglycerides,diacylglycerol and cholesterol) in the liver, accompanied by a decrease in phospholipid synthesis.

This paper analyzes the impact of technological art as an agent for raising awareness in artwork spectators of ecological-environmental issues. It addresses the evolution in the conception of the artistic fact related to science, and attempts to define the spectator＇s new role. The present document will look into the science, an and technology triad as a means to communicate issues our planet is facing through scientific dissemination focusing on the bio-art avenue for collaboration. Finally, we will outline our concept of an as a revolutionary and thoughtful form poured through our works as artistic collective expressions.

Background:Parkinson’s Disease(PD)with mild cognitive impairment(MCI)(PD-MCI)represents one of the most dreaded complications for patients with PD and is associated with a higher risk of developing *** transcranial direct current stimulation(tDCS)has been demonstrated to improve motor and non-motor symptoms in PD,to date,no study has investigated the effects of tDCS on Theory of Mind(ToM),i.e.,the ability to understand and predict other people’s behaviours,in ***:In this randomized,double-blind,sham-controlled study,we applied active tDCS over the medial frontal cortex(MFC)to modulate ToM performance in twenty patients with *** matched healthy controls(HC)were also enrolled and were asked to perform the ToM task without receiving ***:In the patients with PD-MCI,i)ToM performance was worse than that in the HC,ii)ToM abilities were poorer in those with fronto-executive difficulties,and iii)tDCS over the MFC led to significant shortening of latency for ToM ***:We show for the first time that active tDCS over the MFC enhances ToM in patients with PD-MCI,and suggest that non-invasive brain stimulation could be used to ameliorate ToM deficits observed in these patients.

AIM: To investigate the existence and levels of sH2a, a soluble secreted form of the asialoglycoprotein receptor in human serum. METHODS: Production of recombinant sH2a and development of a monoclonal antibody and an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). This assay was used to determine the presence and concentration of sH2a in human sera of individuals of both sexes and a wide range of ages. RESULTS: The recombinant protein was produced successfully and a specific ELISA assay was developed. The levels of sH2a in sera from 62 healthy individuals variedminimally (147 ± 19 ng/mL). In contrast, 5 hepatitis C patients with cirrhosis showed much decreased sH2a levels (50 ± 9 ng/mL). CONCLUSION: Constant sH2a levels suggest constitutive secretion from hepatocytes in healthy individuals. This constant level and the decrease with cirrhosis suggest a diagnostic potential.

Effectiveness of 0.1% topical salicylic acid on blepharoconjunctivitis affecting glaucoma patients treated with topical prostaglandin analogues:a prospective randomized trial

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of 0.1% topical salicylic acid（TSA） to treat iatrogenic chronic blepharoconjunctivitis in patients with primary open angle glaucoma（POAG）, treated with topical prostaglandin analogues（TPAs）.METHODS: Totally 60 patients were randomly distributed into 3 equal size groups, two of which treated with 0.1% TSA（OMKASA;） and 0.1% topical clobetasone butyrate（TCB; VISUCLOBEN;） respectively, and one consisting of untreated controls. The parameters taken into account at baseline（T0） and after 30 d（T1） of therapy were: conjunctival hyperemia, lacrimal function tests [Schirmer I test and break up time（BUT）] and intraocular pressure（IOP）.RESULTS: Conjunctival hyperemia showed a substantial improvement in both treated groups（P<0.001） but not among controls. Similarly, lacrimal function tests displayed an improvement of Schirmer I test in both treated groups（P<0.05） and an extension of BUT only in the group treated with 0.1% TSA（P<0.05）. The IOP increase was statistically significant only in those patients treated with 0.1% TCB（P<0.001）.CONCLUSION: The 0.1% TSA has proved to be an effective anti-inflammatory treatment of blepharoconjunctivitis affecting glaucoma patients on therapy with TPAs, leading to a sizeable decrease of inflammation as well as both quantitative and qualitative improvement of tear film. Furthermore, differently from 0.1% TCB, it does not induce any significant IOP increase.

Acupuncture accelerates recovery after general anesthesia: a prospective randomized controlled trial

BACKGROUND： Acupuncture anesthesia was created in the 1950＇s in China and continues to be used there today during most major surgeries. It is widely used in China for such complex operations as brain heart, and abdominal surgery. It is popular in China because it is economical, practical, and beneficial to the patients. With acupuncture anesthesia there is less bleeding during surgery and there is also quicker post-operative recovery. OBJECTIVE： This randomized prospective study aims at comparing the effect of two acupoints （Yongquan, KI1 and Renzhong, DU26） with sham acupuncture and no acupuncture on the time to recovery of consciousness after general anesthesia by means of the Bispectral Index monitor （BIS） DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS AND INTERVENTIONS： This is a prospective randomized controlled study. We randomly assigned 50 patients to 5 groups during recovery from surgical anesthesia. Four groups had acupuncture on KI1 （group A）, DU26 （groups B）, both KI1 and DU26 （group C）, and sham points （group D）, and one had no acupuncture （group E）. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Bispectral Index （BIS）, time to spontaneous eye opening, time to tracheal extubation, and time to following commands were measured as the main outcome measures RESULTS： Time to spontaneous eye opening differed among groups （P=0.002）, as well as time to tracheal extubation （P〈0.000 1） and time to following commands （P=0.000 6）. BIS values differed significantly among groups both 5 and 10 min after the end of anesthesia （P〈0.000 1 and P=0.000 4, respectively）. BIS values of groups D and E were lower than those of the other groups and those of group C were higher. The same pattern was observed also 15 and 30 rain after the end of anesthesia although the difference among groups was not significant at these time points （P=0.164 and P=0.104 respectively）. CONCLUSION： Acupuncture on DU26 and KI 1 accelerates recovery of consciousness after general anesthesia. Moreover, a possible synergistic effect of DU26 a
