The endophenotype concept was initially proposed to enhance the power of genetic studies of com.lex disorders. It is closely related to the genetic com.onent in a liability-threshold m.del; a perfect endophenotype should have a correlation of 1 with the genetic com.onent of the liability to disease. In reality, a putative endophenotype is unlikely to be a perfect representation of the genetic com.onent of disease liability. The m.gnitude of the correlation between a putative endophenotype and the genetic com.onent of disease liability can be estim.ted by fitting m.ltivariate genetic m.dels to twin data. A num.er of statistical m.thods have been developed for incorporating endophenotypes in genetic linkage and association analyses with the aim.of im.roving statistical power. The m.st recent of such m.thods can handle m.ltiple endophenotypes sim.ltaneously for the greatest increase in power. In addition to increasing statistical power, endophenotype research plays an im.ortant role in helping to understand the m.chanism. which connect the associated genetic variants with disease occurrence. Novel statistical approaches m.y be required for the analysis of the com.lex relationships between endophenotypes at different levels and how they converge to cause the occurrence of disease.

Objective To review the research carried out in Hong Kong on nasopharyngeal carcinom. (NPC) over the past 10 years. m.thods The literature published in Hong Kong over the past 10 years on nasopharyngeal carcinom. were reviewed in the light of other im.ortant international publications on the sam. subject. Results The research carried out in Hong Kong covers etiology, natural behavior, treatm.nt and prognosis of NPC. These studies not only elucidated the different aspects of NPC, m.ny of these new findings will also guide future directions of research. Conclusions m.jor efforts have been m.de to research into the various aspects of NPC with im.ortant findings which will translate into better treatm.nt results. As this tum.r is uncom.on in other parts of the world, continued efforts to im.rove the prevention, early diagnosis, treatm.nt and care of this tum.r are required in China.

The life expectancy of com.osite structure requires a clear understanding of the m.terial’s response to the growth of interlam.nar delam.nation under m.de I, m.de II, m.de III and m.xed m.des. Fracture testing of fiber reinforced polym.r-m.trix com.osites is an active area of research. Even though substantial progress in the area of fracture testing has been achieved, there are still several problem. awaiting solution. The new aspects in the experim.ntal studies of interlam.nar and intralam.nar fracture toughness of polym.r m.trix com.osites were em.hasized in this review paper. The different m.des to evaluate the fracture energy were listed and their suitability was m.ntioned.

This paper explores the recent findings of som. em.irical research concerning Islam.c State of Iraq and al-sham＇s （ISIS＇） com.unication and tries to synthesize them.under the theoretical fram. of propaganda＇s concept and practices. m.ny authors dem.nstrated how ISIS propaganda cam.aigns, in particular those deployed on cyberspace, proved to be effective in recruiting new m.m.ers in both western and m.slim.countries. However, while m.st of the researches focused on ISIS＇s com.unication contents and narratives, few works considered other m.thods and techniques used for actually delivering them. This is a regrettable m.ssing point given the fact that com.unication＇s and neurosciences＇ studies dem.nstrate that not only what is com.unicated but also the techniques adopted bear im.ortant consequences on the receiver＇s perceptions and behavior. Therefore, this article analyzes in particular the findings of researches carried out by com.unication scholars, social psychologists, and neuro-cognitive scientists on ISIS＇ persuasive com.unication techniques and dem.nstrates their im.ortance for security studies＇ analysis of ISIS＇ propaganda. It argues that ISIS＇ success in m.bilizing people and m.ke them.prone to violent action relies on-am.ng other factors-its knowledge and exploitation of sophisticated m.thods of perceptions＇ m.nipulation and behavior＇s influence. This, in turn, dem.nstrates ISIS＇ possession of state-like soft power capabilities effectively deployed in propaganda cam.aigns and therefore calls for a m.re com.lex understanding of its agency.

AIm. Trace elem.nts (TE) m.tabolism.is altered in inflam.atory bowel diseases. TE (zinc and copper) are constituents of antioxidant enzym.s. Iron is involved in the pathogenesis of chronic inflam.ation. The aim.was to evaluate zinc and copper status and the effects of iron m.nipulation in experim.ntal ***: Twenty-four m.le Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups: standard diet, iron-deprived diet,iron-supplem.nted diet, and sham-treated *** dam.ge was scored. DNA adducts were m.asured in the colon. Liver and colonic concentration of TE were ***: m.croscopic dam.ge was reduced in irondeprived groups and increased in iron-supplem.nted *** to the DNA was reduced in iron-deprived groups and increased in iron-supplem.nted groups. Liver and colonic iron concentrations were reduced in iron-deprived and increased in iron-supplem.nted rats. Liver zinc concentration was reduced after supplem.ntation whereas colonic levels were sim.lar in controls and treated rats. Liver copper concentration was reduced in all the colitic groups except in the iron-supplem.nted group whereas colonic concentration was increased in iron-deprived ***: Iron deprivation dim.nishes the severity of DNBS colitis while supplem.ntation worsens colitis. The (DC-GDPAU) is a DC glow discharge plasm. experim.nt that was designed, established, and operated in the Physics Departm.nt at Ain shams University (Egypt). The aim.of this experim.nt is to study and im.rove som. properties of a printed circuit board (PCB) by exposing it to the plasm.. The device consists of cylindrical discharge cham.er with m.vable parallel circular copper electrodes (cathode and anode) fixed inside it. The distance between them.is 12 cm. This plasm. experim.nt works in a low-pressure range (0.15 - 0.70 Torr) for Ar gas with a m.xim.m.DC power supply of 200 W. The Paschen curves and electrical plasm. param.ters (current, volt, power, resistance) characterized to the plasm. have been m.asured and calculated at each cm.between the two electrodes. Besides, the electron tem.erature and ion density are obtained at different radial distances using a double Langm.ir probe. The electron tem.erature (m.KTem.) was kept stable in range 6.58 to 10.44 eV;whereas the ion density (m.nim.) was in range from.0.91 × 1010 cm.sup>−3 to 1.79 × 1010 cm.sup>−3. A digital optical m.croscope (800×) was em.loyed to draw a com.arison between the pre-and after effect of exposure to plasm. on the shaping of the circuit layout. The experim.ntal results show that the electrical conductivity increased after plasm. exposure, also an im.rovem.nt in the adhesion force in the Cu foil surface. A significant increase in the conductivity can be directly related to the position of the sam.le surfaces as well as to the tim. of exposure. This shows the im.ortance of the obtained results in developing the PCBs m.nufacturing that uses in different m.croelectronics devices like those onboard of space vehicles.

To assess the utility of longitudinal ultrasound （US） to quantify volum.tric changes in joint soft tissues during the progression of posttraum.tic osteoarthritis （PTOA） in m.ce, and validate the US results with histological findings. A longitudinal cohort of 3-m.nth-old wild-type C57BL/6 m.le m.ce received the Hulth-Telhag surgical procedure on right knee to induce ~OA, and sham surgery on their left knee as control. US scans were perform.d on both knees before, 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks post-surgery. Joint space volum. and Power-Doppler （PD） volum. were obtained from.US im.ges via Am.ra software. A paraUel cross-sectional cohort of m.ce was killed at each US tim. point, and knee joints were subjected to histological analysis to obtain synovial soft-tissue area and OARSI scores. The correlation between US joint space volum. and histological synovial soft-tissue area or OARSI score was assessed via linear regression analysis. US im.ges indicated increased joint space volum. in PTOA joints over tim., which was associated with synovial inflam.ation and cartilage dam.ge by histology. These changes started from.2 weeks post-surgery and gradually becam. m.re severe. No change was detected in sham joints. Increased joint space volum. was significantly correlated with increased synovial soft-tissue area and the OARSI score （P 〈 0.001）. PD signal was detected in the joint space of PTOA joints at 6 weeks post-surgery, which was consistent with the location of blood vessels that stained positively for CD31 and alpha-sm.oth m.scle actin in the synovium. This study indicates that US is a cost-effective longitudinal outcom. m.asure of volum.tric and vascular changes in joint soft tissues during PTOA progression in m.ce, which positively correlates with synovial inflam.ation and cartilage dam.ge.

Objective: To assess the efficacy of intravenous tranexamic acid and ethamsylate in reducing blood loss during and after elective lower segment cesarean delivery in patients at high risk for postpartum hemorrhage. Methods: A double-blind, randomized placebo-controlled study was undertaken of women undergoing elective lower-segment cesarean delivery of a full-term pregnancy at high risk for postpartum hemorrhage at Ain Sham University Maternity Hospital in Cairo, Egypt, between January 2019 and October 2019. Patients were randomly assigned (1:1) using computer-generated random numbers to receive either 1 g tranexamic acid and 1 gm ethamsylate or 5% glucose (placebo) just after delivery of the fetus. Prophylactic oxytocin was administered to all women. Preoperative and postoperative complete blood count, hematocrit values, and maternal weight were used to calculate the estimated blood loss (EBL) during the cesarean, which was the primary outcome. Results: Analyses included 32 women in each group. Our results showed that tranexamic acid and ethamsylate significantly reduced bleeding during and after cesarean delivery.
