Objective To evaluate the efficiency of silymarin(SmN) in modulating metabolic parameters and redox status in rats with type 1 diabetes mellitus(T1 Dm).methods Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of alloxan. The diabetic rats were administered with SmN at doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg body weight/d for 30 consecutive days. The rats were divided into the following four groups: vehicle control, diabetic(alloxan-treated), DS50(alloxan +50 mg/kg body weight/d of SmN), and DS100(alloxan + 100 mg/kg body weight/d of SmN) groups. The bodyweight and food and water intake were evaluated. After 30 d, the animals were euthanized and the blood was collected for measuring the serum levels of glucose, triacylglycerol(TAG), urea, and creatinine. The liver and pancreas were collected for measuring the activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and catalase(CAT), and the levels of carbonylated protein(PC). The pancreas sample was also used for histological *** SmN reduced hepatic(P mage and creatinine levels(P = 0.0141) in addition to decreasing food(P ment with SmN did not improve beta-cell function or decrease blood glucose levels in diabetic *** SmN improved polyphagia and polydipsia, renal function, and protected the liver and pancreas against protein damage without affecting hyperglycemia in diabetic animals.

Genetic factors and gene polymorphisms leading to the onset of autoimmune response in autoimmune hepatitis(AIH)are still not full *** the CTLA-4 molecule is a key modulator of the lymphocytes responses we hypothezied that deficiencies or mutations in the gene encoding CTLA4 protein may be involved in AIH susceptibility and trigger the autoimmune *** investigated 3 distinct polymorphic sites(t49A>G,CT60 G>A and e318C>T)of the CTLA4 gene in 50 AIH patients and 100 healthy controls using the KASP genotyping technology.A significant positive association with AIH susceptibility was found for the GG genotype in t49 position of the CTLA4 gene which was significantly higher in AIH patients compared to controls(28%vs 9%,pZ0.003,ORZ3.93[1.56e9.88]).The CTLA4 A/A genotype in position CT60 was more significantly frequent in controls comparing to AIH patients and could be considered as a protective genotype for the tunisian ***4 genotyping in position318 did not show any statistically significant difference in genotype or allele *** CTLA4 gene polymorphism in position t49 is associated to AIH susceptibility in the Tunisian *** in the CTLA4 gene may lead to a modification of the CTLA4 protein structure that could have functional relevance in AIH pathogenesis and onset.

The aim of the present work was to present the outcomes of the patients with Y-chromosome microdeletions treated by intracytoplasmic sperm injection （ICSI）, either using fresh （TESE） or frozen-thawed （TESE-C） testicular sperm and ejaculated sperm （EJAC）. The originality of this work resides in the comparisons between the different types of Y-microdeletions （AZFa, AZFb, and AZFc） and treatments, with detailed demographic, stimulation, embryological, clinical, and newborn （NB） outcomes. Of 125 patients with Y-microdeletions, 33 patients presented severe oligozoospermia （18 performed ICSI with ejaculated sperm） and 92 secretory azoospermia （65 went for TESE with 40 having successful sperm retrieval and performed ICSI）. There were 51 TESE treatment cycles and 43 TESE-C treatment cycles, with a birth of 19 NB （2 in AZFa/TESE-C, 12 in AZFc/TESE, and 5 in AZFc/TESE-C）. Of the 29 EJAC cycles, there was a birth of 8 NB （in AZFc）. In TESE and EJAC cycles, there were no significant differences in embryological and clinical parameters. In TESE-C cycles, there was a significant lower oocyte maturity rate, embryo cleavage rate and mean number of embryos transferred in AZFb, and a higher mean number of oocytes and lower fertilization rate in AZFc. In conclusion, although patients with AZFc microdeletions presented a high testicular sperm recovery rate and acceptable clinical outcomes, cases with AZFa and AZFb microdeletions presented a poor prognosis. Due to the reported heredity of microdeletions, patients should be informed about the infertile consequences on NB and the possibility of using preimplantation genetic diagnosis for female sex selection.

Immigration in Portugal： An Approach to ＂Lusophone＂ media System

The purpose of this essay is to discuss the ＂Lusophone＇＇l media system, inside the ＂Lusophone＂ migration system, from the perspective of data collected in an empirical work. For this purpose, we discuss the concept of ＂Lusophone＂ and ＂Lusophone＂ migration system, and we present the context of immigration in Portugal. The empirical work involved 14 in-depth interviews2 and started by presenting, in broad strokes, some important aspects relating to the history of ＂Lusophone＂. The analysis of the interviews was sustained in the theories of economic and political ＂world-system＂ developed by Braudel （1949） and Wallerstein （2004） and extended to the concept of migration systems of Kritz and Zlotnik （1992）. Their proposals were further developed by the Portuguese sociologist Baganha （2009） who defended the particularity of a ＂Lusophone＂ migration system. Based on those concepts, we describe the theoretical and empirical research and methodological procedures, stressing the trajectories of migration, social mobility and consumption of media and Information Communication Technologies （ICT）. We analyze the interviews, highlighting the similarities and differences, regarding the uses and consumptions of media and ICTs, between Brazilians and Finally based on the results, we discuss the characteristics the citizens from Portuguese-speaking African Countries of this ＂Lusophone＂ media system.
