Return to Sports Activities after lumbar Disc Herniation Surgery: A Review

Background: lumbar disc herniation is a common injury among athletes, especially those who practice disciplines with repetitive flexion movements, twisting and axial loading on the spine, such as weightlifting, gymnastics, hockey and American football. In refractory cases to conservative treatment, microscopic discectomy or full endoscopic discectomy are used as surgical options to relieve pain and restore patient functionality. However, the ideal time for a return to sports activities remains a matter of debate due to variations in recovery times and risks of complications associated with each technique. Methods: A review was conducted, including articles published in the last 33 years (1991-2024), as it was the earliest date matching our search criteria. Clinical studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and clinical guidelines were included. Results: The most common complications when returning to sport prematurely include recurrence of the hernia, persistent pain (VAS leg 7 or higher after surgery) and reduced physical performance. The return to full activity rate of patients who underwent microdiscectomy reaches up to 90%, while the endoscopic technique shows a success rate that reaches 99%. Return to play meantime was 5.19 months (range 1.00 - 8.7 months) and mean time of 4.6 months (range 2 - 8 months) with Microdiscectomy and full endoscopic discectomy respectively. Conclusions: There is no unanimous consensus on the exact timing of return to sport due to variability in recovery times and clinical outcomes. In both techniques, evidence highlights the need for a multidisciplinary approach that integrates surgeons, physical therapists and trainers to optimize recovery and ensure a safe return.

Demonstration of uncertainty resulting from MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer-like geometries:an albedo case study

This research examines uncertainty in MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)observations,and demonstrates the direct influence of geometric distortions resulting from the standard practice of geolocating swath *** observations vary dependent on the ground sample distance,which varies dependent on the view zenith angle that changes with every *** level 2G(l2G)land products are generated by applying a geolocation algorithm that resamples the variable observation geometries to a consistent grid of fixed pixel size and location,a process which itself introduces variability associated with the changing observational *** this study,broadband albedo was simulated for five validation sites,representing five distinct land cover types,exhibiting quantifiable variability,with additional seasonal variability exhibited in some *** site simulations exhibit compounded uncertainty attributable to the geometric distortion sufficient to influence climate models(*** from 0.01 to 0.045 albedo).These results indicate there is a minimum level of uncertainty associated with the variable geometry that should be factored into l2Gbased products,particularly for nominal 250 m band *** the data to coarser resolutions and smoothing the data through average resampling can mitigate the uncertainty.

A Comprehensive Review on Human Aichi Virus

Although norovirus,rotavirus,adenovirus and Astrovirus are considered the most important viral agents transmitted by food and water,in recent years other viruses,such as Aichi virus(AiV),have emerged as responsible for gastroenteritis outbreaks associated with different *** belongs to the genus Kobuvirus of the family *** is a virus with icosahedral morphology that presents a single stranded RNA genome with positive sense(8280 nucleotides)and a poly(A)*** was first detected from clinical samples and in recent years has been involved in acute gastroenteritis outbreaks from different world ***,several studies conducted in Japan,Germany,France,Tunisia and Spain showed a high prevalence of AiV antibodies in adults(between 80%and 99%),which is indicative of a large exposure to this *** aim of this review is to bring together all the discovered information about the emerging pathogen human Aichi virus(AiV),discussing the possibles routes of transmission,new detection techniques and future *** AiV is responsible for a low percentage of gastroenteritis outbreaks,the high seroprevalence shown by human populations indicates an evident role as an enteric *** low percentage of AiV detection could be explained by the fact that the pathogen is more associated to subclinical *** studies will be needed to clarify the real impact of AiV in human health and its importance as a causative gastroenteritis agent worldwide.

Evidences supporting the vascular etiology of post-double balloon enteroscopy pancreatitis: Study in porcine model

Double balloon enteroscopy(DBE) is an endoscopic technique broadly used to diagnose and treat small bowel diseases. Among the associated complications of the oral DBE, post-procedure pancreatitis has taken the most attention due to its gravity and the thought that it might be associated to the technique itself and anatomical features of the pancreas. However, as the etiology has not been clarified yet, this paper aims to review the published literature and adds new results from a porcine animal model. Biochemical markers, histological sections and the vascular perfusion of the pancreas were monitored in the pig during DBE practice. A reduced perfusion of the pancreas and bowel, the presence of defined hypoxic areas and disseminated necrotic zones were found in the pancreatic tissue of pigs. All these evidences contribute to support a vascular distress as the most likely etiology of the post-DBE pancreatitis.
