Predicting the mode of flow in pneumatic conveying systems—A review

An initial prediction of the particulate mode of flow in pneumatic conveying systems is beneficial as this knowledge can provide clearer direction to the pneumatic conveying design process. There are three general categories of modes of flow, two dense flows： fluidised dense phase and plug flow, and dilute phase oniy. Detailed in this paper is a review of the commonly used and available techniques for predicting mode of flow. Two types of predictive charts were defined： basic particle parameter based （e.g. particle size and density） and air-particle parameter based （e.g. permeability and de-aeration）. The basic particle techniques were found to have strong and weak areas of predictive ability, on the basis of a comparison with data from materials with known mode of flow capability. It was found that there was only slight improvement in predictive ability when the particle density was replaced by loose-poured bulk density in the basic parameter techniques. The air-particle-parameter-based techniques also showed well-defined regions for mode of flow prediction though the data set used was smaller than that for the basic techniques. Also, it was found to be difficult to utilise de-aeration values from different researchers and subsequently, an air-particle-based technique was developed which does not require any de-aeration parameter in its assessment.

Metabolic rate depression is an important survival strategy for many animal species and a common element of hibernation,torpor,estivation,anoxia and *** of the molecular mechanisms that regulate reversible transitions to and from hypometabolic states have identified principles of regulatory *** control mechanisms are conserved among biologically diverse organisms and include the coordinated reduction of specific groups of key regulatory enzymes or proteins in the cell,a process likely driven by microRNA target repression/*** present review focuses on a growing area of research in hypometabolism and mechanisms involving the rapid and reversible control of translation facilitated by *** analysis draws primarily from current research on three animal models:hibernating mammals,anoxic turtles and freeze-tolerant frogs(with selected examples from multiple other sources).Here,we demonstrate a link between metabolic rate depression,a well-documented response to periods of environmental stress,and microRNA ***-based expression profiles and PCR-driven studies have revealed that specific microRNAs are induced in response to environmental *** members of this group decrease pro-apoptotic signaling,reduce muscle wasting and reduce protein translation,whereas other members contribute to cell cycle arrest and mitogen-activated protein kinase *** of the same microRNAs are frequently deregulated in numerous disease pathologies and,hence,the hypometabolism model could provide a novel approach for the treatment of stroke and heart attack in humans.

The repair of injured tendons remains a great challenge because of the poor intrinsic healing capacity of tendons. In this study, we examined the spatiotemporal expression pattern of the bone morphogenetic protein 2 (bmp-2) gene in normal and experimentally injured rat patellar tendons. We also investigated the ability of exogenously applied BMP-2 to promote patellar tendon healing. In situ hybridization with bmp-2 and alk-6 (bmp-2 receptor) antisense riboprobes revealed that both genes were normally expressed at low levels in intact rat tendons. However, bmp-2 expression was significantly upregulated in tenocytes found in the wound site at 7 d and later following tendon injury. In addition, it was found that bmp-2 was expressed in cultured patellar tenocytes. Appli- cation of exogenous BMP-2 to the tendon wound site significantly enhanced tendon repair. Moreover, in vitro and in vivo studies further demonstrated that BMP-2 enhanced tenocyte proliferation and migration to the wound site. The detectable amount of BMP-2 in normal tendons suggests that a basal level of bmp-2 expression was likely present to maintain the normal functions of the patellar tendon. Injury to the tendon induced increased bmp-2 expression intrinsically, but the expression level was insufficient for proper tendon repair. Our findings indicate that it is possible to significantly improve tendon healing by applying exogenous BMP-2 to the wound site, inferring that this protein could be developed as a potential therapeutic reagent for the treatment of damaged tendons.

Purpose:The article discusses the relationship between the human resource traditions of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation(FOCAC)and those supported by the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI),and in particular by the education Action Plan for the Belt and Road Initiative,issued by the Chinese Ministry of education(MOe)in ***/Approach/Methods:The article draws upon discourse analysis of both the FOCAC Ⅵ and Ⅶ documents and the key MOe 2016 Action ***:Given the trans-continental coverage of the BRI,it is suggested that its ambitious pledges in respect of education and human resource development(HRD)actually complement or even exceed the commitments made by FOCAC Ⅵ and Ⅶ.Originality/Value:This is the first article explicitly to compare the HRD pledges of FOCAC with those associated with BRI’s education Action Plan.

The landmark Massachusetts Male Ageing Study shed new light on the prevalence of erectile dysfunction （eD） and drew attention to eD as a disease of ageing. Over the years, eD has been linked to the development of cardiovascular disease （CVD） in some patients. There is clear evidence that eD and CVD share and have a similar risk factor profile. CVD is one of the most recognizable causes of mortality and early detection coupled with prevention of mortality from CVD has been the prime interest of many researchers. Consequently, there has been a multidisciplinary curiosity regarding the proposal to use eD as a marker for future CVD. I n fact, there have been several proposals to use eD as a screening tool for future CVD. We performed a comprehensive Search of two main databases--PubMed and Cochrane Library using a combination of keywords such as acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease （CAD） and eD. Journal articles from January 2000 to June 2011 were reviewed. We included all articles discussing the relationship between eD and CVD in the english language. All the relevant randomized controlled trials, cohort and retrospective studies, and review articles were included in our overall analysis in an attempt to answer the question whether all patients with eD should be clinically evaluated for CVD. The results showed a link between eD and the development of future CVD in some patients, but eD was not shown to be an independent risk predictor that is any better than the traditional Framingham risk factors. Screening for CVD may, however, be rewarding in younger patients with severe eD and in patients with concurrent CVD risk factors.
