Experimental investigations of transient pressure variations in a high head model Francis turbine during start-up and shutdown

Penetration of the power generated using wind and solar energy to electrical grid network causing several incidents of the grid tripping, power outage, and frequency drooping. This has increased restart （star-stop） cycles of the hydroelectric turbines significantly since grid connected hydroelectric turbines are widely used to manage critical conditions of the grid. Each cycle induces significant stresses due to unsteady pressure loading on the runner blades. The presented work investigates the pressure loading to a high head （ He = 377 m, De = 1.78 m） Francis turbine during start-stop. The measurements were carried out on a scaled model turbine （HM = 12.5 m, DM = 0.349 m）. Total four operating points were considered. At each operating point, three schemes of guide vanes opening and three schemes of guide vanes closing were investigated. The results show that total head variation is up to 9% during start-stop of the turbine. On the runner blade, the maximum pressure amplitudes are about 14 kPa and 16 kPa from the instantaneous mean value of 121 kPa during rapid start-up and shutdown, respectively, which are about 1.5 times larger than that of the slow start-up and shutdown. Moreover, the maximum pressure fluctuations are given at the blade trailing edge.

Systematic analysis about the exploitation of imidazolium based ionic liquids （ILs）, [BMIM] BF4 [ILl], [EMIM] BF4 ILL2] and [BMIM] PF6 [IL3] as the morphological template on the basic sol-gel method adopted synthesis of nanostructured zinc oxide （ZnO） is presented. X-ray diffraction （XRD）, particle size analysis （PSA） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM） have been employed for the characterization of structure and morphology of the synthesized ZnO particles. Well-defined capsule like shaped morphology with lower nanosize is observed for the ZnO nanoparticles with ILl than those with IL2 and IL3. This confirms that ILl served as an effective templating material due to their unique properties. Especially the effective aggregation of ZnO particles with a self-organized frame of ILl was the essential factor to produce the lower nanosized ZnO with capsule shaped structure. The synthesized ZnO samples with IL2 and IL3 fabricated the flake like shaped and rod like shaped morphologies in the range of nanoscale. The formed ZnO nanoparticles with IL2 exhibit higher nanosize than the ZnO nanoparticles produced by ILl, owing to shorter length of alkyl group in its cation which restricts steric effect and permits the nanoparticles to grow longer. Even though IL3 produced the discrete ZnO nanorods, the hydrophobic nature of IL3 created the higher nanosize than the ZnO nanoparticles formed by other two ionic liquids. Antibacterial properties of the synthesized ZnO nanostructures were investigated against Staphylococcus aureus （gram positive） and Escherichia coil （gram negative） bacteria by Agar diffusion test method. Microbial experiments indicate that the synthesized ZnO samples show a wide spectrum of antimicrobial activities and performed better against S. aureus than E. coil with the same concentration of ZnO.

We present the masses of N baryons up to 3300 MeV. The radial and orbital excited states are determined using hypercentral constituent quark model with the first-order correction. The obtained masses are compared with the experimental results and other theoretical predictions. The Regge trajectories are also determined in(n, M^2) and(j, M^2) planes. Moreover, the magnetic moments with j^p =(1^+/2,1^-/2) are calculated. We also calculates the Nπ decay width of excited nucleons.

Let M be a non-zero finitely generated module over a commutative Noetherian local ring （R, m）. In this paper we consider when the local cohomology modules are finitely generated. It is shown that if t≥ 0 is an integer and p C Supp H^t_p （M）, then Hm^t＋dim R/p （M） is not p-cofinite. Then we obtain a partial answer to a question raised by Huneke. Namely, if R is a complete local ring, then H^n_m （M） is finitely generated if and only if 0 ≤ n ￠ W, where W ---- {t ＋ dimR/p丨p ∈ SuppH^t_p（M）／V（m）}. Also, we show that if j C I are 1-dimensional ideals of R, then H^t_I（M） is j-cominimax, and H^t_I（M） is finitely generated （resp., minimax） if and only if H}R, （Mp） is finitely generated for all p C Spec R （resp., p ∈ SpecR／MaxR）. Moreover, the concept of the j-cofiniteness dimension cj（M） of M relative to I is introduced, and we explore an interrelation between c^I_m（M） and the filter depth of M in I. Finally, we show that if R is complete and dim M/IM ≠ 0, then c^I_m （R） ---- inf{depth Mp ＋ dim R/p 丨 P ∈ Supp M/IM／V（m）}.

AIM:To study the epidemiology of gastric malignancies in jordan as a model for Middle East countries where such data is scarce. METHODS:Pertinent epidemiological and clinicopathological data for 201 patients with gastric malignancy in north of jordan between 1991 and 2001 were analyzed. RESULTS:Male:female ratio was 1.8:*** mean age was 61.2 years,and 8.5% of the patients were younger than 40 years of *** overall age-adjusted incidence was 5.82/100 000 population/*** age specific incidence for males raised from 1.48 in those aged 30-39 years to 72.4 in those aged 70-79 ***, gastric lymphomas,malignant stromal tumors,and carcinoids were found in 87.5%,8%,2.5%,and 2% *** was an average of 10.1-month delay between the initial symptoms and the *** 82 patients underwent“curative”*** adenocarcinoma groups,Lauren intestinal type was the commonest(72.2%)and the distal third was the most common localization(48.9%).The mean follow up for patients with gastric adenocarcinoma was 25.1 mo(range 1-132mo).The 5-year survival rates for stages Ⅰ(n=15), Ⅱ(n=41),Ⅲ(n=59),and Ⅳ(n=53) were 67.3%,41.3%, 5.7%,and 0% respectively(P=0.0001).The overall 5 year survival was 21.1%. CONCLUSION:Despite low inddence,some epidemiological features of gastric cancer in jordan mimic those of high- risk *** are detected and treated after a relatively long *** justification in favor of a possible gastric cancer screening effort in jordan is supported by our study;rather,the need of an earlier diagnosis and subsequent better care.

Objective:To accurately detect pregnancy in local Aardi goats of Saudi Arabia before day 30 of pregnancy by using serum caprine pregnancy associated glycoproteins (caPAG) concentrations and to evaluate the effects of heat stress on early pregnancy and on caPAG concentrations in pregnant and non-pregnant ***:This study was to confirm the reliability of our methods in different seasons of the year. A new protocol to evaluate and improve Aardi goats' reproductive performance was implemented during summer and winter months. A total of 60 healthy mature Aardi goats were used (30 and 30 in the summer and winter, respectively). All were synchronized using an ovsynch protocol and then naturally mated (NM) to mature tested bucks. Conception rates and caPAG were measured and pregnancy was verified by ***:Regardless of season, however, on day 23 and 35 post-NM, caPAGs were higher in sera of pregnant (P<0.05) than in non-pregnant goats, while there was no difference in caPAG concentrations on day 15. On day 23 and 35 post-NM, serum caPAG concentrations were higher (P<0.001) in the pregnant winter group than in the pregnant summer group, while no differences were found in non-pregnant goats. Measuring serum caPAG concentrations proved to be easy and accurate in assessing early stages of pregnancy (as early as 23 days post-NM) during both summer and winter ***: It can be concluded that pregnancy rates were not affected by seasonal differences. The modified ovsynch program can be advantageous and worthwhile for its ease of use. When we add the accuracy of caPAG tests, such a program will help in detecting pregnancies in Aardi goats as early as 23 days post-NM, regardless of the season.

We report the current-voltage （I-V） characteristics of the Schottky diode （Au/n-InP） as a function of temperature. The SILVACO-TCAD numerical simulator is used to calculate the I-V characteristic in the tem- perature range of 280-400 k. This is to study the effect of temperature on the I-V curves and assess the main parameters that characterize the Schottky diode such as the ideality factor, the height of the barrier and the series resistance. The I-V characteristics are analyzed on the basis of standard thermionic emission （TE） theory and the inhomogeneous barrier heights （BHs） assuming a Gaussian distribution. It is shown that the ideality factor de- creases while the barrier height increases with increasing temperature, on the basis of TE theory. Furthermore, the homogeneous BH value of approximately 0.524 eV for the device has been obtained from the linear relationship between the temperature-dependent experimentally effective BHs and ideality factors. The modified Richardson plot, according to the inhomogeneity of the BHs, has a good linearity over the temperature range. The evaluated Richardson constant A^＊ was 10.32 A·cm^-2·k^-2, which is close to the theoretical value of 9.4 A·cm^-2·k^-2 for nInP. The temperature dependence of the I-V characteristics of the Au/n-InP Schottky diode have been successfully explained on the basis of the thermionic emission （TE） mechanism with a Gaussian distribution of the Schottky barrier heights （SBHs）. Simulated I-V characteristics are in good agreement with the measurements [korucu D, Mammadov T S. j Optoelectronics Advanced Materials, 2012, 14：41 ]. The barrier height obtained using Gaussian Schottky barrier distribution is 0.52 eV, which is about half the band gap of InP.
