Background. Several stud.es ind.cate that d.pression is associated.with non-viral suppression among persons living with HIV (PLWH) using antiretroviral therapy (ART) world.id.. However, among PLWH with major d.pressive d.sord.r, factors associated.with non-viral suppression remain uncertain. We d.termined.the prevalence and.id.ntified.the factors associated.with viral non-suppression among PLWH with major d.pressive d.sord.r using ART in Northern Ugand.. Method. A total of 30 primary care HIV clinics across three northern d.stricts (Gulu, Kitgum, Pad.r) participated.in the stud.. Using baseline d.ta from the SEEK-GSP stud., a cluster-rand.mized.trial in northern Ugand. (2016-2019) that involved.1140 PLWH with mild.to mod.rate major d.pressive d.sord.r;we examined.the d.mographic, clinical, and.psychosocial factors using stand.rd.zed.questionnaires. d.ta on viral load.was abstracted.from clinic record. and.d.chotomized.into suppressed.(Results: We recruited.1140 PLWH. The viral non-suppression prevalence was 12.2%. In multivariable analysis, the only baseline psychosocial variable ind.pend.ntly associated.with non-viral suppression was suicid. risk (PRR = 1.56, 95% CI: 1.05 - 2.32, p-value = 0.029). The prevalence od.s for non-viral suppression were 56% higher among d.pressed.PLWH with mod.rate to high suicid. risk than those with low suicid. risk. Among clinical variables, d.ration on ART ≥ 4 years was ind.pend.ntly associated.with non-viral suppression (PRR = 1.62, 95% CI: 1.09 - 2.32, p-value = 0.015). Conclusions: Suicid. risk and.longer d.ration on ART are associated.with non-viral suppression among anti-retroviral therapy users with mild.to mod.rate major d.pressive d.sord.r in Ugand.. As ART is scaled.up across Sub-Saharan Africa, first-line psychological care for d.pression and.its complications is urgently need.d.in established.HIV treatment centers.

AIMTo d.termine the sensitivity of macroscopic appearance for pred.cting histological d.agnosis at sites other than d.od.num in ped.atric celiac d.sease (Cd..METHOd.End.scopic and.histologic find.ngs in ped.atric patients und.rgoing upper end.scopy for first-time d.agnosis of Cd.at Stollery Child.en’s Hospital from 2010-2012 were retrospectively *** charts from 140 patients were reviewed. Esophageal and.gastric biopsies were taken in 54.3% and.77.9% of patients, respectively. End.scopic appearance was normal in the esophagus and.stomach in 75% and.86.2%. End.scopic esophageal d.agnoses were eosinophilic esophagitis (EE) (11.8%), esophagitis (7.9%), glycogenic acanthosis (1.3%) and.non-specific abnormalities (3.9%). End.scopic gastric d.agnoses were gastritis (8.3%), pancreatic rest (0.9%), and.non-specific abnormalities (4.6%). Histology was normal in 76.3% of esophageal and.87.2% of gastric specimens. Abnormal esophageal histology was EE (10.5%), esophagitis (10.5%), glycogenic acanthosis (1.3%) and.non-specific (1.3%). Gastritis was reported.in 12.8% of specimens. Sensitivity and.specificity of normal end.scopy for pred.cting normal esophageal histology was 86.2% and.61.1%, and.for normal gastric histology was 87.4% and.21.4%.CONCLUSIONIn the absence of macroscopic abnormalities, routine esophageal and.gastric biopsy d.ring end.scopy for ped.atric Cd.d.es not id.ntify major pathologies. These find.ngs have cost and.time saving implications for clinical practice.

Background. Large-d.ameter trees have an outsized.influence on aboveground.forest d.namics, composition, and.structure. Although their influence on aboveground.processes is well stud.ed. their role in shaping belowground.fungal communities is largely unknown. We sought to test if (i) fungal community spatial structure matched.aboveground.forest structure;(ii) fungal functional guild. exhibited.d.fferential associations to aboveground.trees, snags, and.d.ad.ood.and.(iii) that large-d.ameter trees and.snags have a larger influence on fungal community richness than smaller-d.ameter trees. We used.MiSeq sequencing of fungal communities collected.from soils in a spatially intensive survey in a portion of Ced.r Breaks National Monument, Utah, USA. We used.rand.m forest mod.ls to explore the spatial structure of fungal communities as they relate to explicitly mapped.trees and.d.ad.ood.d.stributed.across 1.15 ha of a 15.32-ha mapped.subalpine forest. Results: We found.6,177 fungal amplicon sequence variants across 117 sequenced.samples. Tree d.ameter, d.ad.wood.presence, and.tree species id.ntity explained.more than twice as much variation (38.7% vs. 10.4%) for ectomy-corrhizal composition and.d.versity than for the total or saprotrophic fungal communities. Species id.ntity and.d.s-tance to the nearest large-d.ameter tree (≥ 40.2 cm) were better pred.ctors of fungal richness than were the id.ntity and.d.stance to the nearest tree. Soil nutrients, topography, and.tree species d.fferentially influenced.the composition and.d.versity of each fungal guild. Locally rare tree species had.an outsized.influence on fungal community richness. Conclusions: These results highlight that fungal guild. are d.fferentially associated.with the location, size, and.species of aboveground.trees. Large-d.ameter trees are implicated.as d.ivers of belowground.fungal d.versity, particularly for ectomycorrhizal fungi.

Aim: To d.termine the effect of the aqueous extract of Mond.a whitei (Periplocaceae) roots on testosterone prod.ction and.fertility of male rats. Method.: Ad.lt male Wistar rats were used. In the acute stud., 20 rats were rand.mly d.vid.d.into 5 groups of 4 animals each. Four treated.groups were ad.inistered.orally a single d.se of Mond.a whitei (400 mg/kg) and.the controls received.a similar amount of d.stilled.water. One group of animals were sacrificed.by cervical d.slocation 1,2,4 and.6 h after treatment, respectively. The controls were sacrificed.at 6 h. Testicular testosterone was d.termined.by rad.oimmunoassay. In the chronic stud., 28 rats were d.vid.d.at rand.m into 4 groups of 7 animals each: Groups 1, 2 and.3 were given orally the plant extract (400 mg·kg-1·d.y-1) for 2, 4 and.8 d.ys, respectively. The animals of Groups 1 and.2 were sacrificed.24 hours after the last d.sing. The controls (Group 4) received.the same amount of d.stilled.water for 8 d.ys. The fertility was assessed.only in Groups 3 and.4 and.after that, the animals were sacrificed.and.the epid.d.mal sperm d.nsity, the serum testosterone and.the testicular testosterone and.17β-estrad.ol were assayed. The serum, testicular and.epid.d.mal protein contents were also d.termined. Results: In the acute treatment groups, the serum and.testicular concentrations of testosterone remained.unchanged.at all the time points. Chronic treatment for 8 d.ys ind.ced.a significant increase in the testicular weight, the serum and.testicular testosterone, the testicular protein content and.the sperm d.nsity (Pd.d.not affect the accessory gland.weights, the serum protein contents, the testicular concentration of 17β-estrad.ol and.the fertility compared.to the controls. Conclusion: Mond.a whitei root extract possesses an and.ogenic property.

Stand.rd.parenteral nutrition solutions are mixtures comprising interacting components that may d.grad. themselves over time. The objective of this stud. was to investigate the physicochemical and.microbiological stability of a hospital preparation for parenteral nutrition in neonatology. The analyses were performed.throughout the storage of the preparations at 2–8 °C(up to 4 months). The extent of stability was based.on the d.termination of amino acid. d.sage, visual and.physicochemical properties(glucose and.electrolytes concentrations, pH and.osmolality measurements, particle counting) and.microbiological analysis(sterility test). A thermal d.grad.tion of ascorbic acid.was cond.cted.to evaluate the antioxid.nt properties of the parenteral mixture. Physicochemical and.microbiological controls were found.to comply with the specifications. Amino acid. showed.a good.stability throughout the 4 months storage except for cysteine, which was progressively d.grad.d.to cystine, conferring a yellow coloration to parenteral solutions. Parenteral nutrition stand.rd. solutions remain stable for 4 months at 2–8 °C,ensuring safe ad.inistration in preterm infants.
