Background: Evolutionary biology endeavours to explain biological diversity,and as such it is critical to develop an understanding of the adaptive and functional significance of trait *** exhibit remarkable levels of morphological ***,our understanding of the evolutionary causes and functional significance of this variation is limited,especially at the intraspecific ***: We quantified variation in sperm morphology and performance between two subspecies of Long-tailed finch(Poephila acuticauda acuticauda and ***),a small grassfinch found in tropical northern *** a zone of secondary contact,these subspecies are maintained as two distinct forms: *** occurs in the western part of the species' range and has a yellow bill,while *** exhibits a red bill and is found in the eastern part of the ***: We found small,but significant differences in sperm size between these subspecies(*** had longer and narrower sperm than ***),which was surprising given the recent evolutionary origins of these two taxa(i.e.0.3 million years ago).Additionally,both subspecies exhibited high values of between- and within-male variation in sperm morphology,though in the case of sperm midpiece length this variation was significantly lower in *** relative to ***: We suggest these observed differences in sperm morphology are the result of genetic drift and reflect historical processes associated with divergence between the eastern and western populations of these two ***,we discuss the potential implications of our findings for the process of population divergence and reproductive isolation.

＜正＞Inherent and stress-Induced anlsotropy of the stiffness and strength of an about 2 million years old sedimentary soft mudstone was investigated using core samples retrieved by block *** the tC tests,the samples with the axis being horizontal in-situ is generally stronger and stiffer than those with the axis being vertical in-situ,but the difference is not larger than about 30%.In the unconfined compression tests,the inherent anisotropy is exaggerated due to larger effects of sample disturbance under unconfined *** stress-induced anisotropy of the initial young’s modulus is small,but that on the hysteretic damping ratio is noticeable.

Quantifying the Microstructures of Pure Cu Subjected to Dynamic Plastic Deformation at Cryogenic temperature

A pure Cu （99.995 wt%） has been subjected to dynamic plastic deformation at cryogenic temperature to a strain of 2.1. three types of microstructures that are related to dislocation slip, twinning and shear banding have been quantitatively characterized by transmission electron microscopy （tEM） assisted by convergent beam electron diffraction （CBED） analysis. Microstructures originated from dislocation slip inside or outside the shear bands are characterized by low angle boundaries （〈15°） that are spaced in the nanometer scale, whereas most deformation twins are deviated from the perfect ∑3 coincidence （60°/〈111〉） up to the maximum angle of 9°. the quantitative structural characteristics are compared with those in conventionally deformed Cu at low strain rates, and allowed a quantitative analysis of the flow stress-structural parameter relationship.

Objective:to delineate immunomodulatory role of histamine on antibody generation pr of ile in rabbit in the present dose-dependent histamine ***:the cohort comprised of three groups(Ⅲ,ⅣandⅤ),containing six rabbits each,and received subcutaneous histamine 50μg/kg×bis in die(b.i.d.),100μg/kg×*** 200μg/kg X b.i.d.,respectively for 10 days (starting from the 1st day).they were subsequently immunized on the 3rd day with intravenous injection of sheep blood cell(SRBC)(1×10 cells/mL).GroupⅡ(positive control)(n=6) received vehicle(sterile distilled water) and immunized at day 3 similarly while groupⅠ(negative control) (n=6) remained non-immunized and received only *** experimentations were performed in *** samples were collected on pre-immunization(pre-I)(day 0),as well as on days 7-,14-,21-,28- and 58- post-immunization(post-I).Immunological parameters[total immunoglobulins(Igs),IgM and IgG]were analyzed by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) ***:Histamine could influence a detectable antibody response to SRBC as early as day 7-post-I,which lasted until day 58- *** results were found statistically significant(P< 0.05).Conclusions:Our results provide evidence that histamine has a short-term effect on antibody generation(until its presence in the body),and the antibody generation titer in vivo were affected by the concentration of histamine.

PD-L1 is a member of the B7 protein family,most of whose members so far were identified as dimers in a solution and crystalline state,either complexed or uncomplexed with their ligand(s).the binding of PD-L1 with its receptor PD-1(CD279)delivers an inhibitory signal regulating the t cell *** with the Garboczi group,we successfully solved another structure of human PD-L1(hPD-L1).Our protein crystallized in the space group of C222_(1) with two hPD-L1 molecules per asymmetric *** comparison of reported B7 structures,we have found some intrinsic factors involved in the interaction of these two *** on these results,we tend to believe this uncomplexed hPD-L1 structure demonstrated its potential dimeric state in solution,althougt it could just be an evolutionary relic,too weak to be detected under present technology,or still a functional unit deserved our attentions.

Development of novel rare earth doped fluoride and oxide scintillators for two-dimensional imaging

two topics were focused. the first one was about the gamma-ray scintillator, Pr^3＋：Lu3Al5O12 （LuAG）. the second one was about neutron scintillator, Ce^3＋：^6LiCaAlf6 and Eu^2＋：^6LiCaAlf6 （^6LiCAf）. those scintillators have been developed very recently for modem imaging applications in the medical and homeland security fields. In both cases, the rare earth ions are playing the crucial role as emission centers. Pr^3＋ in LuAG provided fast 5d→4f transition providing noticeably shorter decay time than that of Ce^3＋. Among several candidate hosts, LuAG showed the best performance. Bulk crystal growth, basic scintillation properties, two-dimensional gamma-ray imaging and positron emission mammography （PEM） application were demonstrated. Due to the international situation, the homeland security was compromized by illicit traffic of explosives, drugs, nuclear materials, etc. and the ways to its improvement became an important R＆D topic. for this purpose the Ce and Eu doped LiCAf appeared competitive candidates. Especially, when substitution of 3He neutron detectors was considered, the discrimination ability of gamma-ray from alpha-ray was important. Bulk crystal growth, basic scintillation properties and two-dimensional neutron imaging were demonstrated.

factors Associated with Accessing ICDS Services among Women in Rural Rajasthan, India

Background: the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme, launched in 1975 by the Government of India, provides various health services to children and their mothers at ICDS centres. Objectives: the purpose of this study is to understand 1) the extent to which women living in Rajasthan, India utilize services provided by ICDS centres and 2) the factors that are associated with their use. Methods: freedom from Hunger and freedom from Hunger India trust, in collaboration with two local partners in Rajasthan, India, conducted a baseline assessment with 403 pregnant women and women with young children belonging to self-help groups to compare use of ICDS centres with key demographic variables and measures of poverty, food security and nutrition, curative care related to diarrhea, coping strategies, and household decision-making. Results: the results revealed that households that accessed ICDS services were more likely to report receiving nutrition information from ICDS centres, to purchase ORS in the last year, and to give oral rehydration solution (ORS) to children who had diarrhea. Women who decide how much food to serve each family member or spend money without discussing it first with someone else were more likely to receive benefits from ICDS centres. those who spoke with their spouse about household nutrition needs were less likely to report accessing ICDS services. Conclusion: Interventions aimed at increasing utilization of ICDS centres in this region may find it beneficial to increase female participation in health care decisions, likely through spousal communication and gender relations.

Application of transition metal isotope tracers in global change research

High-precision isotope composition determinations using multicollector, magnetic-sector induc- tively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICPMS) have recently revealed that some transition metal isotopes such as those of Mo, fe, Cu, Zn etc. can be used as biogeochemical tracers in global change research. the Mo isotope system may be useful in paleoredox investigations indicating that δ97/95Mo in seawater may co-vary with changes in the relative proportions of anoxic and oxic sedimentation in the ocean, and that this variation may be recorded inδ97/95Mo of anoxic sediments. the Mo continental flux into the oceans and the global Mo isotope budget can be estimated fromδ97/95Mo values. the fe isotope composition in seawater is an important issue because fe plays a controlling role in biological productivity in the oceans and its abundance in seawater may have substantial effect on climate changes. Iron isotope fractionations could result from bio- and abio-processes and have about 0.1% variation (δ56/54fe), so fe isotopes considered alone cannot be used to distinguish the products of abiotic and biotic fe processing in geological records. Cu and Zn isotopes are also used as biogeochemical tracers, but the researches are relatively less. this review mainly focuses on the methods for preparation, purification and determination of new isotope tracer samples, and on isotope applications in marine environmental changes.
