In fracture mechanics, one has to discuss corner and edge singularities for two- and three-dimensional problems in isotropic and layered continua. To say something about the behavior of crack propagation starting from corners and edges, we need the information about stress asymptotics in the vicinity of three-dimensional corner points. Thus, in this paper we can study two aspects: the interface crack in layered isotropic materials with re-entrant corners and cracks in the homogeneous isotropic continua. To study the effect of geometrical singularities on the stress intensity factors, we have to define generalized stress intensity factors. We are starting with Kondratiev’s Lemma and define an elliptic boundary value problem with homogeneous dirichlet/Neumann boundary data which produce a singular field in the vicinity of corner points. In the next step, the weak form for the previous problem is discretized by using the Petrov-Galerkin finite element method and, as a result, we are getting a quadratic eigenvalue problem. The quadratic eigenvalue problem is solved iteratively by the Arnoldi method and finite element approximations of corner singularity exponents λ, are computed. These eigenvalues λ, are the basis for the definition of generalized stress intensity factors in the neighborhood of the corner points. The method is tested for some typical problems in fracture mechanics.

Testing of Lightning Protective System of a Residential Structure： Comparison of data Obtained in Rocket-triggered Lightning and Current Surge Generator Experiments

We present a comparison of data obtained during testing of lightning protective system of a residential structure in rocket-triggered lightning experiment at the International Center for Lightning Research and Testing(ICLRT)at Camp Blanding,Florida,and current surge generator experiment at Rzeszow University of Technology in *** different configurations of LPS were tested in Poland with the dc grounding resistances of the entire system 4.09 Ω(LPS 1a),1.65 Ω(LPS 1b),and 2.88 Ω(LPS 2).For LPS 1a with three ground rods the value of the peak current entering the electrical circuit neutral was about 56% of the injected current peak,and for LPS 1b with two additional ground rods and two 5 m long buried horizontal conductors it was about 16%.For LPS 2 with five ground rods interconnected by a buried loop conductor this ratio was 21%.The current waveshapes in the ground rods differed from the injected current waveshapes and the current waveshapes in other parts of the test system,especially,for poorer-grounding LPS *** surge-generator results are consistent with those of triggered-lightning experiments at Camp Blanding,Florida(deCarlo et al.,2008 [2]).

Bioassay and Characterization of Several Palmer Amaranth (<i>Amaranthus palmeri</i>) Biotypes with Varying Tolerances to Glyphosate

The wide distribution of Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri) in the southern US became a serious weed control problem prior to the extensive use of glyphosate-resistant crops. Currently glyphosate-resistant populations of Palmer amaranth occur in many areas of this geographic region creating an even more serious threat to crop production. Investigations were undertaken using four biotypes (one glyphosate-sensitive, one resistant from Georgia and two of unknown tolerance from Mississippi) of Palmer amaranth to assess bioassay techniques for the rapid detection and level of resistance in populations of this weed. These plants were characterized with respect to chlorophyll, betalain, and protein levels and immunological responses to an antibody of 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS) the target site of glyphosate. Only slight differences were found in four biotypes grown under greenhouse conditions regarding extractable soluble protein and chlorophyll content, but one biotype was found to be devoid of the red pigment, betalain. Measurement of early growth (seedling shoot elongation) of seedlings was a useful detection tool to determine glyphosate resistance. A leaf disc bioassay (using visual ratings and/or chlorophyll analysis) and an assay for shikimate accumulation were effective methods for determining herbicide resistance levels. The two unknown biotypes were found to be resistant to this herbicide. Some differences were found in the protein profiles of the biotypes, and western blots demonstrated a weak labeling of antibody in the glyphosate-sensitive biotype, whereas strong labeling occurred in the resistant plants. This latter point supports research by others, that increased copy number of the EPSPS gene (and increased EPSPS protein levels) is the resistance mechanism in this species. Results indicate the utility of certain bioassays for the determination of resistance and provide useful comparative information on the levels of inherent constit

Long-term irritable bowel syndrome symptom control with reintroduction of selected FOdMAPs

AIM To investigate the long-term effect of dietary education on a low fermentable oligosaccharide, disaccharide and polyol(FOdMAP) diet on irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) symptoms and quality of life(Qo L).METHOdS Participants with IBS(Rome III) were randomized to two groups. Group I commenced a low FOdMAP diet at baseline. At three months, group II, so far a comparator group, crossed over to a low FOdMAP diet while group I started re-challenging foods. All patients completed the IBS SSS(IBS symptom severity scoring system, 0-500 points increasing with severity), IBS Qo L questionnaire(0-100 increasing with Qo L), a FOdMAP specific food frequency questionnaire and provided a stool sample at baseline, three and six months for microbiome *** Fifty participants were enrolled into group I(n = 23) or group II(n = 27). Participants in both groups were similar in baseline values but with more men in group I. There was a significantly lower IBS SSS(275.6 ± 63.6 to 128.8 ± 82.5 vs 246.8 ± 71.1 to 203.6 ± 70.1)(P d increased Qo L(68.5 ± 18.0 to 83 ± 13.4 vs 72.9 ± 12.8 to 73.3 ± 14.4)(P duced IBS SSS was sustained at 6 mo in group I(160 ± 102) and replicated in group II(124 ± 76). Fiber intake decreased on the low FOdMAP diet(33 ± 17 g/d to 21 ± 8 g/d)(P d after re-introducing FOdMAP containing foods increased again to 27 ± 9 g/d. There was no change seen in the intestinal microbiome when participants adopted a low FOdMAP *** This study demonstrated that a reduction in FOdMAPs improves symptoms in IBS and this improvement can be maintained while reintroducing FOdMAPs.

Alcohol use disorder （AUd）, mild traumatic brain injury （mTBI）, and posttraumatic stress disorder （PTSd） commonly co-occur （AUd ＋ mTBI ＋ PTSd）. These conditions have overlapping symptoms which are, in part, reflective of overlapping neuropathology. These conditions become problematic because their co-occurrence can exacerbate symptoms. Therefore, treatments must be developed that are inclusive to all three conditions. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation （rTMS） is non-invasive and may be an ideal treatment for co-occurring AUd ＋ mTBI ＋ PTSd. There is accumulating evidence on rTMS as a treatment for people with AUd, mTBI, and PTSd each alone. However, there are no published studies to date on rTMS as a treatment for co-occurring AUd ＋ mTBI ＋ PTSd. This review article advances the knowledge base for rTMS as a treatment for AUd ＋ mTBI ＋ PTSd. This review provides background information about these co-occurring conditions as well as rTMS. The existing literature on rTMS as a treatment for people with AUd, TBI, and PTSd each alone is reviewed. Finally, neurobiological findings in support of a theoretical model are discussed to inform TMS as a treatment for co-occurring AUd ＋ mTBI ＋ PTSd. The peer-reviewed literature was identified by targeted literature searches using PubMed and supplemented by cross-referencing the bibliographies of relevant review articles. The existing evidence on rTMS as a treatment for these conditions in isolation, coupled with the overlapping neuropathology and symptomology of these conditions, suggests that rTMS may be well suited for the treatment of these conditions together.

Structure and magnetostructural correlation of ferrimagnetic meso-tetraphenylporphinatomanganese(Ⅲ) dimethyl- N,N′-dicyanoquinone diiminide, [MnTPP]^+[Me_2dCNQI]^(.-)

The structure [MnⅢ TPP][Me2 dCNQI] (TPP = tetraphenylporphinato; Me 2 dCNQI = 2,5-dimethyl-N,N′-dicyanoquinonediimine) has been determined from X-ray powder diffraction data. The nonsolvated structure is composed of linear (1-d) chains of alternating [MnⅢ TPP] + and μ-[Me 2 dCNQI] with intrachain Mn···Mn separations of 12.83 , and a Mn N dCNQI distance of 2.18. The dihedral angle between the mean Mn(N 4 ) TPP and [Me 2 dCNQI].- planes, and the Mn (N C) dCNQI angle are 84.18° and 143.6°, respectively. [MnⅢ TPP][Me 2 dCNQI] has a T c of 4.3 K from the 10 Hz χ"(T) data, 2-K coercivity of 5,600 Oe, and 6,300 emuOe/mol remnant magnetization that are reduced from that observed for related materials, and their inclusion extends the magnetostructural correlation between the intrachain coupling and both the dihedral angle between the mean Mn(N 4 ) TPP and [TCNE]*- (TCNE = tetracyanoethylene) planes and Mn (N C) TCNE angles. This is in accord with the intrachain coupling arising from the overlap of the MnⅢ d z 2 -like singly occupied molecular orbital (SOMO) and the z component of the [TCNE]*-π* (πz *) SOMO, which increases with decreasing dihedral angle between the mean Mn(N 4 ) TPP and [TCNE]*- planes and Mn (N C) TCNE angle.
