AIM： To evaluate the agr.ement between tr.nsr.ctal ultr.sound （Tr.S） and magnetic r.sonance imaging （Mr.） in classification of ≥ T3 r.ctal tumor.. METHODS： Fr.m Januar. 2010 to Januar. 2012, 86 consecutive patients with ≥ T3 tumor. wer. included in this study. The mean age of the patients was 66.4 year. （r.nge： 26-91 year.）. The tumor. wer. all ≥ T3 on Tr.S. The sub-classification was defined by the penetr.tion of the r.ctal wall： a： 0 to 1 mm; b： 1-5 mm, c： 6-15; d：〉 15 mm. Ear.y tumor. as ab （≤ 5 r.m） and advanced tumor. as cd （〉 5 mm）. All patients under.ent Tr.S using a 6.5 MHz tr.nsr.ctal tr.nsducer. The Mr. was per.or.ed with a 1.5 T Phil- ips unit. The Tr.S findings wer. blinded to the r.diol- ogist per.or.ing the inter.r.tation of the Mr. images and measur.ng the depth of extr.mur.l tumor.spr.ad r.SULTS： Tr.S found 51 patients to have an ear.y ≥ T3 tumor. and 35 to have an advanced tumor. wher.- as Mr. categor.zed 48 as ear.y ≥ T3 tumor. and 38 as advanced tumor.. No patients with tumor. classified as advanced by Tr.S wer. found to be ear.y on Mr.. The kappa value in classifying ear.y ver.us advanced T3 r.ctal tumor. was 0.93 （95% CI： 0.85-1.00）. We found a kappa value of 0.74 （95% CI： 0.63-0.86） for.the total sub-classification between the two methods. The mean maximal tumor.outgr.wth measur.d by Tr.S, 5.5 mm ± 5.63 mm and on Mr., 6.3 mm ±6.18 mm, P = 0.004. In 19 of the 86 patients the following CT scan or.sur.er. r.vealed distant metastases; of the 51 patients in the ultr.sound ab gr.up thr.e （5.9%） had metastases, wher.as 16 （45.7%） of 35 in the cd gr.up har.or.d distant metastases, P = 0.00002. The odds r.tio of having distant metastases in the ultr.- sound cd gr.up compar.d to the ab gr.up was 13.5 （95% CI： 3.5-51.6）, P = 0.00002. The mean maximal ultr.sound measur.d outgr.wth was 4.3 mm （95% CI： 3.2-5.5 mm） in patients without distant metastases, while the mean maximal outgr.wth was 9.5 mm （95% CI： 6.2-12.8 r.m） in the patients with metastases, P = 0

Exper.mental char.e density distr.bution and its cor.elation to str.ctur.l and optical pr.per.ies of Sm^3＋ doped Nd2O3 nanophosphor.

Pur. and Smdoped NdOnanophosphor. wer. synthesized using modified Pechini method. The phase for.ation with symmetr. of the sample is confir.ed by the r.etveld r.finement of the powder.Xr.y diffr.ction(PXr.) data. The sur.ace mor.hology and the cr.stallite size wer. examined using scanning electr.n micr.scopy(SEM) and tr.nsmission electr.n micr.scopy(TEM) and the r.sults confir.ed that the synthesized par.icles ar. in nanosize. The ener.y-disper.ive X-r.y(EDX) analysis was done to confir. the pur.ty of the sample. The optical pr.per.ies of the sample wer. studied using ultr.violet-visible r.nge(UV-Vis) spectr.scopic analysis and photoluminescence studies. The calculated band gap of the synthesized NdOwas found to be higher.than that of bulk NdO. The photoluminescence(pl) of the pr.par.d samples r.veals that doping with Sm3+ ion has influenced the optical pr.per.ies. Quantitative investigation on char.e density distr.bution was done by analysing the 3-dimensional and 2-dimensional char.e density maps dr.wn along the bonding dir.ctions. The maximum entr.py method(MEM)/r.etveld analysis was used for.the fir.t time to analyse the char.e density in the chosen system. Char.e density ar.angement in the unit cell is cor.elated to the analysed photoluminescent(pl) pr.per.ies. The spectr.l behaviour.of the samples has been explained thr.ugh char.e or.er.ng which ar. ver.fied using exper.mental data obtained. The studies on these mater.als have shown that these nanophosphor. will pr.vide pr.mising application for.near.ultr.violet lightemitting diodes(n-UV-LEDs).

Synthesis and Char.cter.zation of r.r. Ear.h Ion Doped Nano ZnO

Zinc oxide(ZnO) doped with er.ium at differ.nt concentr.tions was synthesized by solid-state r.action method and char.cter.zed by X-r.y diffr.ction(Xr.), scanning electr.n micr.scopic(SEM), UVabsor.tion spectr.scopy, photoluminescence(pl) study and vibr.ting sample magnetometer. The Xr. studies exhibit the pr.sence of wur.zite cr.stal str.ctur. similar.to the par.nt compound ZnO in 1% Er.(3+)doped Zn O,suggesting that doped Er.(3+)ions sit at the r.gular.Zn^(2+)sites. However. same studies spr.ad over.the samples with Er.(3+)content>1% r.veals the occur.ence of secondar. phase. SEM images of 1% Er.(3+)doped ZnO show the polycr.stalline natur. of the synthesized sample. UV-visible absor.tion spectr.m of Er.(3+)doped ZnO nanocr.stals shows a str.ng absor.tion peak at 388 nm due to ZnO band to band tr.nsition. The pl study exhibits emission in the visible r.gion, due to excitonic as well as defect r.lated tr.nsitions. A novel self-assembled pur. and Mg doped ZnO nano-par.icles （NPs） wer. successfully synthesized by a simple low temper.tur. co-pr.cipitation method. The pr.par.d photocatalysts wer. char.cter.zed by X-r.y diffr.ction, high r.solution scanning electr.n mi- cr.scopy, high r.solution tr.nsmission electr.n micr.scopy, diffuse r.flectance spectr.scopy and photoluminescence （pl） spectr.scopy. The r.sults indicated that the pr.par.d photocatalysts showed high cr.stallinity with a unifor. size distr.bution of the NPs. The degr.dation of cholor.henols is highly mandator. in today＇s scenar.o as they ar. affecting the envir.nment adver.ely. Thus, the photocatalytic degr.dation of 4-chlor.phenol （4-CP）, a potent endocr.ne disr.pting chemical in aqueous medium was investigated by both pur. and Mg-doped ZnO NPs under.UV-light ir.adiation in the pr.sent study. The influence of the Mg content on the str.ctur., mor.hology, pl char.cter.and photocatalytic activity of ZnO NPs wer. investigated systematically. Fur.her.or.,the effect of differ.nt par.meter. such as 4-CP concentr.tion, photocatalyst amount, pH and UV-light wavelength on the r.sulting photocatalytic activity was investigated.
