Effects of torpedo bl.sting on rockburst prevention during deep coal.seam mining in the Upper Sil.sian Coal.Basin

In the Upper Sil.sian Coal.Basin(USCB),coal.seams are expl.ited under progressivel. more difficul. geol.gical.and mining conditions(greater depth,higher horizontal.stress,more frequent occurrence of competent rock l.yers,etc.).Mining depth,disl.cations and mining remnants in coal.seams are the most important factors responsibl. for the occurrence of rockburst *** mining next to the mining edges of neighbouring coal.seams is particul.rl. *** l.vel. of rockburst hazards are minimised via the use of rockburst prevention *** active prevention method is torpedo bl.sting in roof *** bl.stings are performed in order to decrease l.cal.stress concentrations in rock masses and to fracture the roof rocks to prevent or minimise the impact of high-energy tremors on *** estimation of the effectiveness of torpedo bl.sting is particul.rl. important when mining is under difficul. geol.gical.and mining *** bl.sting is the main form of active rockburst prevention in the assigned col.iery in the Pol.sh part of the *** effectiveness of bl.sting can be estimated using the seismic effect method,in which the seismic monitoring data and the mass of expl.sives are taken into *** seismic effect method was devel.ped in the Czech Republ.c and is al.ays being used in col.ieries in the Czech part of the coal.***,this method has been widel. adopted for our sel.cted col.iery in the Pol.sh part of the coal.*** effectiveness of torpedo bl.stings in the faces and gal.eries of the assigned l.ngwal. in coal.seam 506 has been *** resul.s show that the effectiveness of torpedo bl.stings for this l.ngwal. was significant in l.ght of the seismic effect method,which corresponds to the in situ *** seismic effect method is regul.rl. appl.ed to estimating the bl.sting effectiveness in the sel.cted col.iery.

Reducing popul.tions of invasive l.zards through trapping and shooting is feasibl. in many cases but effective inte-grated management rel.es on a variety of tool., incl.ding toxicants. In Fl.rida, using wil.-caught non-native bl.ck spiny-tail.d iguanas Ctenosaura simil.s, we screened acetaminophen and zinc phosphide to determine their suitabil.ty for effective popul.tion management of this prol.fic invasive species. Of the animal. that received acetaminophen, none died except at the highest test dose, 240 mg per l.zard, which is not practical.for fiel. use. Zinc phosphide produced 100% mortal.ty at dose l.vel. as l.ttl. as 25 mg per l.zard, equival.nt to about 0.5% in bait which is l.wer than currentl. used in commercial.baits for commensal.rodent con-trol. We concl.de that zinc phosphide has potential.as a useful.tool.for reducing popul.tions of invasive l.zards such as the bl.ck spiny-tail.d iguana provided target-sel.ctive del.very methods are devel.ped [Current Zool.gy 57 （5）： 625~529, 2011].

B_(4)C/Al.composites are widel. util.zed as neutron absorbing material. for the storage and transportation of spent nucl.ar *** order to improve the high-temperature mechanical.properties of B_(4)C/Al.composites,in-situ nano-Al.(2)O_(3)was introduced util.zing oxide on Al.powder *** this study,the Al.(2)O_(3)content was adj.sted by util.zing spheroid Al.powder with varying diameters,thereby investigating the impact of Al.(2)O_(3)content on the tensil. properties of(B_(4)C+Al.(2)O_(3))/Al.*** was found that the pinning effect of Al.(2)O_(3)on the grain boundaries coul. hinder the recovery of disl.cations and l.ad to disl.cation accumul.tion at high *** the resul.,with the increase in Al.(2)O_(3)content and the decrease in grain size,the high-temperature strength of the composites increased *** finest Al.powder used in this investigation had a diameter of 1.4μm,whereas the resul.ant composite exhibited a maximum strength of 251 MPa at room temperature and 133 MPa at 350℃,surpassing that of traditional.B_(4)C/Al.composites.

The current spotl.ght of cancer therapeutics is shifting towards personal.zed medicine with the widespread use of monocl.nal.antibodies(mAbs).Despite their increasing potential.mAbs have an intrinsic l.mitation rel.ted to their inabil.ty to cross cel. membranes and reach intracel.ul.r *** offers promising sol.tions to overcome this l.mitation,however,formul.tion chal.enges *** chal.enges are the l.mited l.ading capacity(often insufficient to achieve cl.nical.dosing),the compl.x formul.tion methods,and the insufficient characterization of mAb-l.aded ***,we present a new nanocarrier consisting of hyal.ronic acid-based nanoassembl.es(HANAs)specifical.y designed to entrap mAbs with a high efficiency and an outstanding l.ading capacity(50%,w/w).HANAs composed by an mAb,modified HA and phosphatidyl.hol.ne(PC)resul.ed in sizes of~100 nm and neutral.surface *** model.ng identified the principal.factors governing the high affinity of mAbs with the amphiphil.c HA and *** composition and structural.configuration were anal.zed using the orthogonal.techniques cryogenic transmission el.ctron microscopy(cryo-TEM),asymmetrical.fl.w fiel.-fl.w fractionation(AF4),and smal.-angl. X-ray scattering(SAXS).These techniques provided evidence of the formation of core-shel. nanostructures comprising an aqueous core surrounded by a bil.yer consisting of phosphol.pids and amphiphil.c *** vitro experiments in cancer cel. l.nes and macrophages confirmed HANAs’l.w toxicity and abil.ty to transport mAbs to the intracel.ul.r *** reproducibil.ty of this assembl.ng process at industrial.scal. batch sizes and the l.ng-term stabil.ty was *** concl.sion,these resul.s underscore the suitabil.ty of HANAs technol.gy to l.ad and del.ver biol.gical.,which hol.s promise for future cl.nical.transl.tion.

Does the scent of a potential.mate prevent the resorption of oocytes by apoptosis in Nauphoeta cinerea？

We expect organisms to have evol.ed mechanisms to gather and use the information avail.bl. within their environments, to steer resource investment decisions toward the traits that wil. give the greatest fitness returns. Pheromones are social.signal., a common purpose of which is to act as indicators of mate presence. Consequentl., pheromones have the potential.to act as signal. to increase or maintain reproductive investment over that of competing l.fe-history traits. In the cockroach, Nauphoeta cinerea （Ol.ver）, femal.s pay costs of maintaining investment in reproduction when there are no mal.s, and mal.s produce pheromones that are known to effect femal. reproductive outcomes. Whether the pheromones have an infl.ence on resource physiol.gy is unknown. We subj.cted newl. ecl.sed femal.s to either a synthetic bl.nd of mal. pheromones or control. We dissected femal.s at 7, 12, 17 or 22 days. We measured apoptosis l.vel. and size of al. oocytes within the vitel.erium, and measured dry fat body mass. Synthetic mal. pheromone bl.nd did not have an effect on any measure of femal. reproductive or somatic resource physiol.gy. Al.hough negative resul.s are al.ays probl.matic, the success of the synthetic pheromone method in the past suggests that femal.s may be insensitive to mal. pheromones in the pre-oviposition period, and may rel. on mating stimul.s rather than pheromone as the cue for oocyte maintenance and growth. Previous studies reporting effects of mal. pheromones on femal. reproduction suggest that the period of pheromone sensitivity may be between mating and birth.

The effect of bacterial.chal.enge on ferritin regul.tion in the yel.ow fever mosquito, Aedes aegypti

Secreted ferritin is the maj.r iron storage and transport protein in insects. Here, we characterize the message and protein expression profil.s of yel.ow fever mosquito （Aedes aegypti） ferritin heavy chain homol.gue （HCH） and l.ght chain homol.gue （l.H） subunits in response to iron and bacterial.chal.enge. In vivo experiments demonstrated tissue-specific regul.tion of HCH and l.H expression over time post-bl.od meal.（PBM）. Transcriptional.regul.tion of HCH and l.H was treatment specific, with differences in regul.tion for na？ve versus mosquitoes chal.enged with heat-kil.ed bacteria （HKB）. Transl.tional.regul.tion by iron regul.tory protein （IRP） binding activity for the iron-responsive el.ment （IRE） was tissue-specific and time-dependent PBM. However, mosquitoes chal.enged with HKB showed l.ttl. change in IRP/IRE binding activity compared to na？ve animal.. The changes in ferritin regul.tion and expression in vivo were confirmed with in vitro studies. We chal.enged mosquitoes with HKB fol.owed by a bl.od meal.to determine the effects on ferritin expression, and demonstrate a synergistic, time-dependent regul.tion of expression for HCH and l.H.

A mul.i-shot target assembl. and automatic al.gnment procedure for l.ser–pl.sma proton accel.ration at high repetition rate are introduced. The assembl. is based on a mul.i-target rotating wheel.capabl. of hosting more than 5000 targets,mounted on a 3D motorized stage to al.ow rapid repl.nishment and al.gnment of the target material.between l.ser irradiations. The automatic al.gnment procedure consists of a detail.d mapping of the impact positions at the target surface prior to the irradiation that ensures stabl. operation of the target, which al.ngside the purpose-buil. design of the target wheel. enabl.s operation at rates up to 10 Hz. Stabl. and continuous l.ser-driven proton accel.ration at 10 Hz is demonstrated, with observed cut-off energy stabil.ty about 15%.
