Focus on intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection （IMSI）. a mini-review

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection （ICSI） is the recommended treatment in many cases of male-factor infertility. Several studies have demonstrated a positive correlation between optimal sperm morphology and positive ICSI outcomes. In fact, spermatozoa with severe abnormalities of the head are well documented to be associated with low fertilisation, implantation and pregnancy rates. However, a spermatozoon which is classified as ＇normal＇ by microscopic observation at low magnification could contain ultrastructural defects that impair both the fertilisation process and embryonic development. The intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection （IMSI） procedure changed the perception of how a spermatozoon suitable for injection should appear. Sperm selection is carried out at x 6000 magnification, allowing improved assessment of the sperm nucleus. Currently, standardized clinical indications for I MSI are lacking and the candidates are selected on the grounds of their medical history or of a careful analysis of the sperm suspension. Further prospective randomized studies are needed to confirm the advantages of IMSI in specific groups of patients. In addition to providing a brief overview of the IMSI procedure, this study aims to review the literature, which explains the theoretical basis and the clinical outcomes of this technique. Several reports show that IMSI is associated with improved implantation and clinical pregnancy rates as well as lower abortion rates when compared to ICSI. Although a possible correlation between the sperm＇s abnormal nucleus shape, increased DNA fragmentation and negative laboratory and clinical outcomes has been long investigated, the results are conflicting.

Rare earth metal as a dopant element:Cerium ion as an articulator in hexavalent chromium removal by magnetic iron oxides

This study highlights introducing the rare earth metal cerium(Ce(Ⅳ))into the structure of magnetite(Fe_(3)O_(4))to achieve enhanced adsorptive properties for the removal of chromium(Cr(VI))from an aqueous *** ratios of Ce(Ⅳ)were introduced into the iron oxide matrix,termed FeCe-5,FeCe-10,and *** numerical values correspond to the nominal content of the dopant element added to the synthesis *** solid materials were characterized for morphology and chemical structure,and N_(2)physical adsorption/desorption measurements were *** solid materials doped with Ce(IV)have a high surface area compared to Fe_(3)O_(4),and the solid material with the highest content of the dopant ion(Ce(IV))has a 4-fold greater surface *** increase in the dopant content in the iron oxide structure leads to a total chromium removal of 93.3%.Isotherms studies on the solid materials show that chromium adsorption follows the Langmuir *** adsorption capacity to Fe_(3)O_(4)is 12.59 mg/g and FeCe-10 is 22.49 mg/g at 35℃.By fitting the kinetic and isothermal models,it is found that for the Fe_(3)O_(4)and FeCe-10 materials Cr(VI)removal occurs in very different ways,attributed to the different surface areas and compositions of the oxide,with the formation of the goethite(α-FeOOH)*** FeCe-10reuse process was performed and the removal capacity the Cr(VI)is reduced after the first *** result is attributed to a strong and irreversible adsorption of Cr(VI)on the FeCe-10.

Background:Children with congenital heart disease(CHD),even after surgical approaches,and especially those who undergo staged procedures in theﬁrst months of life,remain vulnerable to readmissions and complications,requiring very close monitoring and differentiated intervention ***:Descriptive and exploratory study,of the experience report type,which presents the process of building the high-risk outpatient clinic for complex congenital heart diseases(AAR)at the Instituto do Coração(InCor).Results:Report of the path taken to structure the AAR,demonstrating the organization,interface with the multidisciplinary team,admission and discharge criteria,training,and patient proﬁ*** theseﬁve years of care,275 patients were treated,59.65%with biventricular interstage physiology,followed by univentricular interstage physiology(34.55%),residual defects after surgical procedures(3.63%),tumors with risk of mechanical obstruction(1.45%)and patients with an intrauterine approach(0.72%).The signiﬁcant number of critical patients who were successfully discharged from hospital(44.72%),the low mortality rate due to sudden deaths at home and the high adherence to follow-up cor-roborate the impact of this specialized ***:Despite the limitations of the study,this experi-ence report showed that with few resources,there is the possibility of organizing an AAR with differentiated care,with the objective of early detection and treatment of residual injuries,identiﬁcation of early interventions,edu-cation of parents for follow-up of their children,resulting in individualized treatment,promoting a better quality of life for this population.

Effects of CXCL12 isoforms in a pancreatic pre-tumour cellular model:Microarray analysis

BACKGROUND Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)is the fourth leading cause of death among cancers,it is characterized by poor prognosis and strong *** the PDAC microenvironment,stromal cells release different extracellular components,including *** CXCL12 is a chemokine promoting the communication between tumour and stromal *** different splicing isoforms of CXCL12 are known(α,β,γ,δ,ε,θ)but their role in PDAC has not yet been *** To investigate the specific role ofα,β,andγCXCL12 isoforms in PDAC *** We used hTERT-HPNE E6/E7/KRasG12D(Human Pancreatic Nestin-Expressing)cell line as a pancreatic pre-tumour model and exposed it to theα,β,andγCXCL12 *** altered expression profiles were assessed by microarray analyses and confirmed by Real-Time polymerase chain *** functional enrichment analyses have been performed by Enrichr tool to highlight Gene Ontology enriched *** addition,wound healing assays have been carried out to assess the phenotypic changes,in terms of migration ability,induced by theα,β,andγCXCL12 *** Microarray analysis of hTERT-HPNE cells treated with the three different CXCL12 isoforms highlighted that the expression of only a few genes was ***,theαandβisoforms showed an alteration in expression of different genes,whereasγisoform affected the expression of genes also common withαandβ***βisoform altered the expression of genes mainly involved in cell cycle *** addition,all isoforms affected the expression of genes assay confirmed that CXCL12 enhanced the migration ability of hTERT-HPNE *** the CXCL12 splicing isoforms,theγisoform showed higher induction of migration thanαandβ*** Our data suggests an involvement and different roles of CXCL12 isoforms in PDAC ***,more investigations are needed to confirm these preliminary observations.

Air-Water Cooling System for Switch-Mode Power Supplies

The results are presented of an experimental investigation of heat transfer in an air-liquid cooling system for a Switch-Mode Power Supply (SMPS) for TV digital power amplifiers. Since these SMPSs are characterized by high power and high compactness, thereby making the standard cooling techniques difficult to be used, a new cooling system is developed, using water and air as the cooling media. The active components (MOSFETs) are cooled with a liquid cold-plate, the passive ones (condensers, transformers, coils) with an air flow, in turn cooled by the cold-plate. By inserting the cooling system in an experimental tool where it is possible to control the cooling water, measurements are made of temperature in the significant points of the SMPS. The electric efficiency is also measured. The evaluation of the thermal performance of this cooling system is useful in order to limit its maximum operational temperature. The efficacy of the cooling system is demonstrated;the trends of efficiency and power dissipation are evidenced.

Non-Ablative Transvaginal Radiofrequency in the Treatment of Stress Urinary Incontinence: Review of the Literature

Background: Urinary incontinence is defined as the involuntary loss of urine, which can affect up to 45% of women after menopause. Radiofrequency is a non-invasive procedure that involves the application of an electromagnetic wave that through heat generation promotes neocollagenesis and neoeslatinogenesis in the vaginal epithelium. This energy-based technology has been studied as a potential alternative for the treatment of genitourinary syndrome of menopause and urinary incontinence. Objective: To review the recent literature (from 2020 to June 2022) on the use of transvaginal radiofrequency in the treatment of stress urinary incontinence, by searching articles at databases of Capes, PubMed Cochrane and Scielo. Methods: The descriptor terms “Urinary Incontinence/therapy” [Majr] AND “Urinary Incontinence, Stress/therapy” [Majr] AND RADIOFREQUENCY-Search Results-PubMed, [“woman” OR “women”] AND [“urinary incontinence” OR “stress urinary incontinence”] AND Radiofrequency were used, with a filter for the period 2020 to 2022. Conclusion: The studies evaluated in this review demonstrated significant results of radiofrequency in the resolution or reduction of complaints of women with urinary incontinence, especially stress urinary incontinence, but most of these studies presented a low methodological quality. There is, therefore, a lack of studies with longer follow-ups, evaluation of cost-effectiveness, randomized clinical trials with objective outcomes and the use of validated questionnaires with international acceptance.

Modeling the degradation mechanisms of AlGaN-based UV-C LEDs:from injection efficiency to mid-gap state generation

In this work,we analyze and model the effect of a constant current stress on an ultraviolet light-emitting diode with a nominal wavelength of 285 *** carrying out electrical,optical,spectral,and steady-state photocapacitance(SSPC)analysis during stress,we demonstrate the presence of two different degradation *** first one occurs in the first 1000 min of stress,is ascribed to the decrease in the injection efficiency,and is modeled by considering the defect generation dynamics related to the de-hydrogenation of gallium vacancies,according to a system of three differential equations;the second one occurs after 1000 min of stress and is correlated with the generation of mid-gap defects,for which we have found evidence in the SSPC ***,we detected the presence of deep-level states(at 1.6 eV)and mid-gap states(at 2.15 eV),indicating that stress induces the generation of non-radiative recombination centers.

YbF_3/SiO_2 Fillers as Radiopacifiers in a Dental Adhesive Resin
