Gastric dysplasia may be an independent risk factor of an advanced colorectal neoplasm

AIM: To evaluate the relationship between gastric dysplasia and Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) and the occurrence of colorectal adenoma, and to defi ne the necessity for colonoscopy in patients with gastric dysplasia or H pylori ***: From May 2005 to February 2008, 133 patients with established gastric dysplasia by gastroduo-denoscopy (EGD) were additionally investigated by colonoscopy. The authors compared results with those of 213 subjects who underwent both EGD and colonoscopy during the same period at the author’s Health Promotion Center as a control group. H pylori infection was evaluated in both the gastric dysplasia and control ***: The mean age of all 346 study subjects was 54.1 ± 10.5 years, and there were 258 (73%) men and 87 (27%) women. No signif icant difference was found between the H pylori positive and negative subjects in terms of the prevalence of colorectal adenoma and advanced colorectal adenoma (P = 0.261). Patients with gastric dysplasia showed no elevated risk of colorectal adenoma (OR = 0.910, 95% CI: 0.587-1.411, P = 0.738), but had a signif icantly higher risk of having advanced colorectal adenoma (OR = 3.382, 95% CI: 1.700-6.342, P = 0.000).CONCLUSION: The study emphasizes the need for colon surveillance in patients with gastric dysplasia, regardless of H pylori infection.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of flavor on reproductive performance and fecal microbiota of sows during late gestation and lactation.A total of 20 healthy Yorkshire sows were fed a corn-soybean basal diet unsupplemented or supplemented with 0.1%flavor compound from d 90 of gestation to 25 d post-farrowing,and then the piglets were *** reproductive performance and the fecal microbiota of sows were *** with the controls,flavor supplementation in maternal diets increased(P0.05).The 16S rRNA analysis showed that flavor supplementation signifi-cantly increased the abundance of Phascolarctobacterium(P<0.05),but significantly decreased genera Terrisporobacter,Alloprevotella,Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1,and Escherichia-shigella(P<0.05).Spearman correlation analysis showed that Phascolarctobacterum was positively correlated with the average daily feed intake of sows(P<0.05),the litter weight gain and average daily gain of piglets(P<0.05).In contrast,Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1 and unclassified_f__Lachnospiraceae were negatively correlated with the litter weight gain and average daily gain of piglets(P<0.05).Taken together,dietary flavor sup-plementation improved the reproductive performance of the sows,which was associated with enhanced beneficial microbiota and decreased potentially pathogenic bacteria in the sows.

Comparative Study on the Protease Inhibitors from Fish Eggs

The protease inhibitor was purified from five different fish eggs. The molecular weights of Pacific herring, chum salmon, pond smelt, glassfish, and Alaska pollock egg protease inhibitors were 120, 89, 84.5, 17, and 16.8kDa, respectively. The specific inhibitory activity of glassfish egg protease inhibitor was the highest followed by those of Pacific herring and Alaska pollock in order. The specific inhibitory activity and purity of glassfish egg protease inhibitor were 19.70 U mg^- 1 protein and 164.70 folds of purification, respectively. Glassfish egg protease inhibitor was reasonably stable at 50 - 65℃ and pH 8, which was more stable at high temperature and pH than protease inhibitors from the other fish species. Glassfish egg protease inhibitor was noncompetitive with inhibitor constant （Ki） of 4.44 nmol L^-1

We briefly summarized how to design and fabricate an insect-mimicking flapping-wing system and demonstrate how to implement inherent pitching stability for stable vertical takeoff. The effect of relative locations of the Center of Gravity （CG） and the mean Aerodynamic Center （AC） on vertical flight was theoretically examined through static force balance considera- tion. We conducted a series of vertical takeoff tests in which the location of the mean AC was determined using an unsteady Blade Element Theory （BET） previously developed by the authors. Sequential images were captured during the takeoff tests using a high-speed camera. The results demonstrated that inherent pitching stability for vertical takeoff can be achieved by controlling the relative position between the CG and the mean AC of the flapping system.

Purpose: The signals responsible for homeostasis in the periodontal complex are unclear. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of Low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 5(LRP5) in this process by removing LRP5, and observing the effects of LRP5 depletion on cells of the periodontal structures. Material and Methods: The function of this LRP5 was evaluated by conditional elimination of the LRP5 gene using an Osteocalcin Cre driver. The OCN-Cre;? mice were examined using micro-CT and histology, immunohistochemistry to evaluate the periodontal complex. Results: Elimination of LRP5 in the periodontal complex of OCN-Cre;??mice results in a different expression of Fibromodulin in the periodontal ligament space. A decrease in osteoclastic activity was found in the periodontal ligament. Conclusion: Osteoclastic activities are decreased and expression of fibromodulin is decreased, which implies the involvement of LRP5 in homeostasis of the periodontal ligament.

Parametric Study of Sulfur Trioxide Decomposer in a Small-Scale Test Loop Facility

A High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor （HTGR） with an outlet coolant temperature of 950 ℃ is considered as an efficient reactor to couple with the thermo-chemical Sulfur Iodine （SI） cycle for a hydrogen production. The test loop was installed in the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute （KAERI） facility to confirm the integrity of the sulfur trioxide decomposer, one of the key components in the test loop, under HTGR operating conditions. In this paper, the simulation using Aspen plus, a chemical process simulator, was made to evaluate the performance of a sulfur trioxide decomposer. The simulation indicated that at least 10 kW heat needs to be supplied to the sulfur trioxide decomposer in the test loop when the sulfuric acid flowrate is 0.5 kg/min. The simulation flowsheet was obtained and the material balance around the sulfur trioxide decomposer was determined in case of 10 kW heat input and 0.5 kg/min flowrate of liquid sulfuric acid. The parametric study was carried out for sulfur trioxide decomposer. It indicated that the moles of sulfur dioxide produced at the decomposer increases as the operating temperature increases and is decreasing as the operating pressure becomes higher at a given temperature. The parametric study also indicated water vapor removal out of the decomposer is a less effective method to increase the sulfur trioxide conversion ratio.

QTL Analysis of Yield Components in Rice Using a Cheongcheong/Nagdong Doubled Haploid Genetic Map

In this study, only two of 12 quantitative trait loci (QTLs) affecting yield and yield components were identified in a single year, indicating that individual QTLs are probably sensitive to the environment. A rice growth survey of “Cheongcheong” and “Nag dong” in a doubled haploid population in 2012 revealed that yield capacity was influenced by climate change. Analysis of yield and yield components indicated that five average traits are high in “Cheongcheong”. Frequency distribution tables indicated that panicles per plant (PPP), spike lets per panicle (SPP), and 1000-grain weight (TGW) were normally distributed. The strongest relationship was identified between SPP and seed set percentage (SSP) among phenotypic correlations related to yield and yield components found on chromosomes 2, 3, 6, 8 in 2012. SPP and SSP was a very relevant requisite about quantity. Analysis of QTL about quantity was total 9. In the present study, a doubled haploid population was used to analyze the epistatic effects on yield and yield components in rice. Although other epistatic QTLs were not included in any of the main-effect QTLs, they significantly influenced the traits. These results indicated that epistatic interaction plays an important role in controlling the expression of complex traits. Thus, the utilization of marker-assisted selection in rice breeding programs should take epistatic effects into consideration. Hence, the QTLs responsible for major effects are more suitable for marker-assisted selection programs to improve yield and related traits across different environments.

Objective:To explore the double psychosocial threats of the COVID-19 pandemic,targeted behavior toward Chinese Americans,and the correlates to their mental ***:A quantitative,cross-sectional,and descriptive design was utilized by using a purposive convenience sample of 301 Chinese Americans over the age of 18 residing in the United *** data collection was conducted through the social media platform WeChat from April 8–21,*** statistical analysis was used for the participants’demographic charac-teristics,Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support(MSPSS),Double Threat Situations,COVID-19 Racial Discrimination,and General Anxiety Disorder-7(GAD-7).Stepwise logistic regression was conducted to verify predictors for anxiety levels by ***:In this sample(N=301),127(42.19%)were male and 174(57.81%)were *** average age was 41.67(SD=5.89).Among MSPSS subscales,social support from family(MSPSS-Fam,79.73%,n=240)and social support from significant others(MSPSS-SO,73.75%,n=222)were high.231(76.74%)reported threats due to their Chinese ethnic background during the COVID-19 *** for the high anxiety level by GAD-7 were COVID-19 racial discrimination from the local community(OR=0.47,95%CI=0.39–0.71,p<0.001),media/online(OR=0.36,95%CI=0.26–0.53,p<0.001),the perceived threat from the COVID-19 virus(OR=0.33,95%CI=0.23–0.51,p<0.001)and Perceived racism threat from Chinese back-ground related to COVID-19(OR=0.31,95%CI=0.21–0.49,p<0.001).Conclusions:COVID-19 double-threats(The virus and racial discrimination)situations are significantly related to the high level of anxiety among Chinese *** sense of belonging and social perceptions of Chinese immigrants is closely related to public health problems in Western societies and needs to be addressed at all *** call for the attention of health-care workers to specific racism double-threatened situations and high mental health risks,as well as direc
