Efficacy of incremental loads of cow's milk as a treatment for lactose malabsorption in Japan

Luminescence study of europium(III) tris(β-diketonato)/phosphonate complexes in chloroform

The extraction of Eu（Ⅲ） with β-diketone, HA, and monodentate or bidentate Lewis bases, B, into chloroform and the luminescence properties of the extracted species were studied. Pivaloyltrifluoroacetone, Hpta, and 2-thenoyltfifluoroacetone, Htta, were used as the β-diketones. The Lewis bases, B, were tetraethyl methylene diphosphonate, POPO, which was bidentate, and diethyl benzylphosphonate, PhPO which was monodentate. Based on the extraction data, the stability constants, log β, of the first complexes between tfis（β-diketonato）Eu（Ⅲ） and the phosphonate, EuA3B, were determined to be 6.0 for the POPO complex and 3.40 for the PhPO complex. The Eu（Ⅲ） luminescence intensity in the EuA3POPO was larger than EuA3 where A was either pta or tta at similar concentrations of Eu（Ⅲ）, while that in Eu（pta）3PhPO was stronger than EuA3; however, in Eu（tta）3PhPO, it was weaker than Eu（tta）3. The POPO functions as a sensitizer, and the PhPO functions as a quencher for the tta chelate and as a sensitizer for the pta chelate. From the lifetime and quantum yield, φ, of the Eu（Ⅲ） luminescence in the complexes as well as the observation of the extractability of Eu（Ⅲ） with the Hpta and the phosphonates and of the luminescence spectra of the complexes, it was confirmed that the extraction of Eu（Ⅲ） was remarkably enhanced with a β-diketonate and a strong Lewis base, and also the ternary complex that was formed as the extracted species, showed luminescence enhancement. This phenomenon may be due the formation of a strong bond between the Eu（Ⅲ） and the strong Lewis base leading to more hydrophobicity in the extracted species and also to more effective energy transfer from the Lewis base to the Eu（Ⅲ）. It was not significant whether the donor atoms were N or O.

Arabidopsis CBL-Interacting Protein Kinases Regulate Carbon/Nitrogen-Nutrient Response by Phosphorylating Ubiquitin Liqase ATL31

In response to the ratio of available carbon （C） and nitrogen （N） nutrients, plants regulate their metabolism, growth, and development, a process called the C/N-nutrient response. However, the molecular basis of C/N-nutrient signaling remains largely unclear. In this study, we identified three CALCINEURIN B-LIKE （CBL）-INTERACTING PROTEIN KINASES （CIPKs）, CIPK7, CIPK12, and CIPK14, as key regulators of the C/N-nutrient response during the post-germination growth in Arabidopsis. Single-knockout mutants of ClPK7, CIPK12, and CIPK14 showed hypersensitivity to high C/low N conditions, which was enhanced in their triple-knockout mutant, indicating that they play a negative role and at least partly function redun- dantly in the C/N-nutrient response. Moreover, these CIPKs were found to regulate the function of ATL31, a ubiquitin ligase involved in the C/N-nutrient response via the phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of 14-3-3 proteins. CIPK7, CIPK12, and CIPK14 physically interacted with ATL31, and CIPK14, acting with CBL8, directly phosphorylated ATL31 in a Ca2＋-dependent manner. Further analyses showed that these CIPKs are required for ATL31 phosphorylation and stabilization, which medi- ates the degradation of 14-3-3 proteins in response to C/N-nutrient conditions. Effects of reductive annealing on insulating polycrystalline thin films of Nb-doped anatase TiO2:recovery of high conductivity

We studied the effects of reductive annealing on insulating polycrystalline thin films of anatase Nb- doped TiO2 （TNO）. The insulating TNO films were intentionally fabricated by annealing conductive TNO films in oxygen ambient at 400 ℃. Reduced free carrier absorption in the insulating TNO films indicated carrier com- pensation due to excess oxygen. With H2-annealing, both carrier density and Hall mobility recovered to the level of conducting TNO, demonstrating that the excess oxygen can be efficiently removed by the annealing process without introducing additional scattering centers.

Validation of novel Japanese indication criteria and biomarkers among living donor liver transplantation recipients with hepatocellular carcinoma - a single center retrospective study

Aim:To validate a novel Japanese indication criteria for liver transplantation(LT)for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),i.e.,the 5-5-500 criteria(nodule size≤5 cm in diameter,nodule number≤5,and alfa-fetoprotein(AFP)value≤500 ng/mL)and the Japanese double eligibility criteria(DEC)(patients meeting the Milan or the 5-5-500 criteria)in the University of Tokyo *** usefulness of biomarkers in predicting the recurrence of HCC was also ***:The overall survival and recurrence rates of patients meeting the Milan,5-5-500,and the Japanese DEC were compared among 153 patients who underwent living donor LT(LDLT)between 1996 and 2019.A receiver-operating characteristics curve analysis was conducted to evaluate the usefulness of AFP,lens culinaris agglutinin-reactive fraction of AFP,des-gamma-carboxy prothrombin,neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio,and the platelet-lymphocyte ratio to detect ***:The 5-year recurrence rate for all patients,those meeting the Japanese DEC,5-5-500 criteria,and the Milan criteria was 10.9%,9.2%,7.4%,and 7.6%,*** with the conventional Milan criteria,the 5-5-500 criteria and the Japanese DEC could increase the number of eligible LDLT candidates by 6.1%and 11.4%.Among five biomarkers,the area under the curve value of AFP was the highest(0.852).Conclusion:The results suggest that the 5-5-500 criteria and the Japanese DEC are the appropriate selection criteria for patients with HCC in *** five biomarkers investigated,AFP was most reliable to predict HCC recurrence,which justified the utilization of AFP in the 5-5-500 criteria and the Japanese DEC.

Practical Use of Transient Elastography in Screening for Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis in a Japanese Population

Background and Aims:Fatty infiltration of liver may induce insulin resistance(IR),and a proportion of patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is diagnosed with nonalcoholic *** elastography is gaining popularity as a means of non-invasively determining both liver stiffness(fibrosis level)and degree of fatty infiltration,expressed as controlled attenuation parameter(CAP)***:The aims of this study were to investigate the association between IR and level of fatty liver,and to identify the group at a greater risk of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis using transient elastography and other noninvasive fibrosis markers.A total of 169 patients without chronic hepatitis B and C were ***:The CAP value was significantly associated with IR(HOMA-IR≥2.5;AUROC=0.81),and the optimal cut-off to discriminate IR was 264 dB/*** liver stiffness measurement and aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index values were significantly higher for CAP≥264 than in CAP<*** 9 patients among the overall 169 patients(5.3%)and among the 102 NAFLD patients(8.8%)who showed≥264 dB and≥7.0 kPa in transient elastography could represent good candidates for liver ***:Evaluation of NAFLD based on CAP values was useful in diagnosing *** 9%of NAFLD patients in a Japanese outpatient clinic with a few metabolic complications might be considered good candidates for liver biopsy to confirm nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.
