Treatability studies of naphthalene in soil,water and air with persulfate activated by iron(Ⅱ)

Increased levels of stress hormones in the muscle could lead to post mortem metabolic/structural modiifcations that could be relfected on meat quality. The present study investigated the metabolic effect of either adrenaline or cortisol injected into lambs in order to obtain an animal model of acute stress. results showed that adrenaline or cortisol injection lead to glucose metabolism and muscle temperature increase. Muscle pH immediately post mortem was affected by adrenaline treatment. Water holding capacity （WHc） of fresh muscle, ifnal muscle pH and temperature registered at 24 h post mortem were not affected by injected hormones. Hardness and adhesiveness of LD muscle evaluated 3 d post mortem tended to increase as a result of adrenaline or cortisol injection. results demonstrated that injected hormones were able to affect the post mortem muscle biochemistry and the pH/T curve independently of ifnal muscle pH.

This study highlights introducing the rare earth metal cerium(ce(Ⅳ))into the structure of magnetite(Fe_(3)o_(4))to achieve enhanced adsorptive properties for the removal of chromium(cr(VI))from an aqueous *** ratios of ce(Ⅳ)were introduced into the iron oxide matrix,termed Fece-5,Fece-10,and *** numerical values correspond to the nominal content of the dopant element added to the synthesis *** solid materials were characterized for morphology and chemical structure,and N_(2)physical adsorption/desorption measurements were *** solid materials doped with ce(IV)have a high surface area compared to Fe_(3)o_(4),and the solid material with the highest content of the dopant ion(ce(IV))has a 4-fold greater surface *** increase in the dopant content in the iron oxide structure leads to a total chromium removal of 93.3%.Isotherms studies on the solid materials show that chromium adsorption follows the Langmuir *** adsorption capacity to Fe_(3)o_(4)is 12.59 mg/g and Fece-10 is 22.49 mg/g at 35℃.By fitting the kinetic and isothermal models,it is found that for the Fe_(3)o_(4)and Fece-10 materials cr(VI)removal occurs in very different ways,attributed to the different surface areas and compositions of the oxide,with the formation of the goethite(α-FeooH)*** Fece-10reuse process was performed and the removal capacity the cr(VI)is reduced after the first *** result is attributed to a strong and irreversible adsorption of cr(VI)on the Fece-10.

Biocompatibility and biotoxicity of in-situ synthesized carboxylated nanodiamond-cobalt oxide nanocomposite

A nanocomposite that incorporates cobalt oxide（co3o4） and nanodiamond（ND） can present both high magnetism（co3o4） and high hardness（ND）. ND particles have potential applications in a variety of fields such as protein immobilization, biosensors, therapeutic molecule delivery and bio-imaging. However,limited information is available in literature on the in-situ synthesis of biocompatible magnetic materials and also on their potential biotoxicity as a result of their entry into environmental compartments and subsequent interaction with biota. In this work, a new kind of bio-compatible magnetic material –carboxylated nanodiamond（c ND） and co3o4 was synthesized to obtain the c ND-co3o4 *** synthesis procedure involved in-situ and chemical reduction of cobalt chloride（cocl（26）H2o） and sodium borohydrate（NaBH4）. The synthesized cND-co3o4 nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The cyto-genotoxicity of the synthesized nanocomposite material was studied by using onion（Allium cepa L.） as a test model with concentrations of 5, 10 and 20 μg/ml. The study was also extended to cND and co3o4 materials for comparison purpose. co3o4 and cND exhibited their contrasting effects on mitosis and other cyto-genotoxic indices studied herein. This work provided fundamental data on the synthesis and the bio-toxicity of the c ND-co3o4 nanocomposite, which, in turn, can help to expand their multidisciplinary applications.

Sorption has been proposed as a promising approach towards a sustainable water decontamination and recently to the recycling of rare earth elements(rEE).Although living seaweed have been shown to be capable of removing rEE from contaminated solutions,no studies have yet compared the effects of rEE competition on sorption onto different groups of *** effects were analysed in the present study by exposing six living seaweeds(Ulva lactuca,Ulva intestinalis,Fucus spiralis,Fucus vesiculosus,gracilaria *** osmundea pinnatifida)(3 g/L,fresh weight) to mono-element and multi-element solutions of Y,La,ce,Pr,Nd,Eu,gd,Tb and Dy(1 μmol/L).results show a preference towards light rEE in mono-element solutions,which is reduced when in competition with other *** competitive effect is less pronounced in heavy rEE indicating that these are still able to bind to the macroalgae despite the presence of competing *** to water content(%),seaweed specific surface area(cm^(2)/g) shows to be an important factor in the sorption of rEE,since larger surface area is associated with higher removal and larger competitive effect.

Pramipexole, a dopamine D3/D2 receptor-preferring agonist, attenuates reserpine-induced fibromyalgia-like model in mice

Fibromyalgia(FM) is a complex pathology described as persistent hyperalgesia including somatic and mood dysfunctions, depression and anxiety. Although the etiology of FM is still unknown, a significant decrease in biogenic amines is a common characteristic in its pathogenesis. Here, our main objective was to investigate the role of dopamine D3/D2 receptor during the reserpine-induced pain in mice. our results showed that pramipexole(PPX) – a dopaminergic D3/D2 receptor agonist – inhibited mechanical allodynia and thermal sensitivity induced by reserpine. relevantly, PPX treatment decreased immobility time and increased the number of grooming in the forced swimming test and splash test, respectively. Animals that received PPX remained longer in the open arms than the reserpine group using elevated plusmaze apparatus. The repeated PPX administration, given daily for 4 days, significantly blocked the mechanical and thermal allodynia during FM model, similarly to pregabalin, although it failed to affect the reserpine-induced thermal nociception. reserpine administration induced significant downregulation of dopamine concentration in the central nervous system, and repeated treatment with PPX restored dopamine levels in the frontal cortex and spinal cord tissues. Moreover, PPX treatment inhibited oxidants production such as DcFH(2′,7′-dichlorodihydrofluorescein) and nitrite, also decreased oxidative damage(carbonyl), and upregulated the activity of superoxide dismutase in the spinal cord. Together, our findings demonstrated the ability of dopamine D3/D2 receptor-preferring agonist in reducing pain and mood dysfunction allied to FM in mice. All experimental protocols were approved by the Universidade Federal de Santa catarina(UFSc) Ethics committee(approval No. 2572210218) on May 10, 2018.

Bacterial infection is considered to be one of the most critical health issues of the world. It is essential to overcome this problem by the development of new drugs. Marine organisms as corals, sponges, seaweeds, and other are an incredible source of novel pharmacologically active compounds. Herein, the antimicrobial activity (extract/fractions) of the invasive stony coralTubastraea coccinea was evaluated by the disk diffusion method against 21 microbial strains (ATcc and clinical strains). Micro broth dilution was used to determinate the MIc of the fractions that showed antimicrobial activity by the disk diffusion method. Bioautography assay was also performed. our results showed that the n-butanol (BF) and aqueous fractions (AF) showed activity against ATcc strains Staphylococcus aureus (MIc 31.25 and 250 μg/mL),Salmonella typhimurium (MIc 125 and 500 μg/mL), Escherichia coli (MIc 62.5 and 500 μg/mL) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MIc 62.5 and 500 μg/mL), respectively. Moreover, BF fraction was also effective against the clinical strains S. aureus(MIc 62.5 μg/mL), Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase—KPc (MIc 125 μg/mL), Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus—MrSA (MIc 125 μg/mL) and Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis—VrE (MIc 62.5 μg/mL). The ratio MBc/MIc reinforces the bactericidal profile of BF fraction. The bioautography assay of BF fraction showed the presence of antimicrobial components at rf0.55.
