Because of the importance of central nervous system (CNS) functions to productive capacity and quality of life, biomarkers of these functions will play a key role in evaluating the success of interventions targeting aging processes. The CNS biomarkers may also be useful for predicting aging in other systems and in the organism as a whole. Age-related behavioral changes, the products of CNS aging, have content and predictive validity with respect to human functional capacities and may, therefore, represent important 'neurobehavioral' markers of functional aging. This article presents a discussion of some behavioral paradigms which are currently being considered as neurobehavioral biomarkers of aging in mice and the experimental approaches being employed in the assessment of their validity. Studies conducted in the authors' laboratory using dietary restriction and genetic comparisons to evaluate the validity of neurobehavioral biomarkers have revealed several methodological concerns, and hypothetical and empirical examples of these pitfalls are described and discussed. In spite of those concerns, it is concluded that approaches to validity using genetic comparisons and dietary restriction can be successfully implemented and should ultimately lead to identification of valid and useful neurobehavioral biomarkers of aging.

AIM:To assess the efficacy and safety of non-penetrating deep sclerectomy(NPDS)with uveoscleral implant plus subconjunctival and intrascleral collagen matrix overcoming the superficial scleral flap lips(modified deep sclerectomy technique,DS)and minimal use of mitomycin C in glaucoma ***:A retrospective review of 47 consecutive glaucoma patients who underwent NPDS with DS between January 2017 and May ***-corrected visual acuity,intraocular pressure(IOP),post-operative need for glaucoma medications,visual field mean deviation(MD),re-interventions,needling revisions and laser goniopuncture were *** success was defined as IOP≤18 mm Hg without topical *** success was defined as the same criteria but with the addition of any antihypertensive *** over 18 mm Hg on two consecutive followup visits was considered as a ***:Fifty-two eyes of 47 patients were *** preoperative IOP was 25.37±6.47 mm Hg,and decreased to 15.04±4.73 at 12mo and 12.21±4.1 at 24mo(all P<0.0001).Requirement for topical medications dropped from a mean of 3.06±0.25 per patient to 0.51±0.99 and 1.11±1.23 respectively after 12 and 24mo(all P<0.0001).No medications were required in 45.5%of patients after *** and absolute success rate at 24mo were 85.5%±5%and 48.5%±7.4%,***:DS is a safe and effective nonpenetrating glaucoma surgery *** aims to retain the patency of all pathways created for aqueous humor drainage:the intrascleral bleb,the supraciliary space and the open communication between intrascleral and subconjunctival compartments.

Aims root systems play an essential role in grassland functioning in both acquisition and storage of ***,root functional traits have not received as much attention as those measured on above-ground organs,and little is known about their *** objec-tives were to test whether morphological and root system traits allowed identification of grass species’functional strategies and to determine whether a relation exists between above-and below-ground *** Functional traits of root tissues(specific root length,diameter,tissue density and nitrogen concentration),whole root systems(root mass,root length density,root mass percentage below a depth of 20 cm and fine root%)and two major leaf traits(specific leaf area and leaf dry matter content)were determined under field conditions and their rela-tions were analysed in eleven perennial temperate Poaceae *** Findings Canonical correspondence analysis along axis 1 revealed a gra-dient of species,from those with deep,dense and coarse root systems with a large root mass to those with shallow root sys-tems,thin roots and high specific root length;this suggests strong correlations among root *** between specific root length and specific leaf area reveal two groups of species,which probably indicates different drought-tolerance *** trait syndromes enable ranking grasses along a gradient from conservative-strategy species(from stressful habitats),which display a deep and coarse root system,to acquisitive species(from rich and moist meadows),which display a shallow and thin root *** both types display similar above-ground strategies,drought-tolerant species have lower specific root lengths than drought-sensitive species,revealing more conservative root strategies.

The authors consider proper holomorphic mappings between smoothly bounded pseudoconvex regions in complex 2-space,where the domain is of finite type and admits a transverse circle *** main result is that the closure of each irreducible component of the branch locus of such a map intersects the boundary of the domain in the union of finitely many orbits of the group action.

Two new types of block polyurethane elastomers were prepared using two polyols polyethyleneadipate and PTHF respectively, and diisocyanate MDI extended with Dianol-33 (a new extender),by one step reaction and casting method.
