Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a range of complex neurodevelopment disorders, characterized by social impairments, communication difficulties, and restricted, repetitive, and stereotyped patterns of behavior. Its diagnosis is very difficult and consists of only clinical criteria. The aim of this study is to confirm autism disorder, among three children (2 girls and 1 boy), recruited in a social association of children in a precarious situation, located in Rabat, Morocco, and to evaluate some biological and neurobiological parameters among these children. The confirmation of autistic status is realized using Questionnaire (E2) and the evaluation of biological parameters (organic acids, urinary peptides, toxic metals and essential elements) is done in urine and hair of these children. Obtained children’s scores of E2 Questionnaire, is found in the favor of autism. Moreover, abnormal levels of urinary organic acids, urinary peptides, toxic and essential metals are observed.

This study aims to understand the relationship between capabilities of Escherichia coli strains to form biofilm and serotype groups expressed on cell surface. Sixteen strains of E. coli were originally isolated from different food processing lines in different Moroccan cities. Strains serotyped based on their O (somatic), H (flagellar), and K (capsular) surface antigen profiles using different antiserums. Biofilm assays carried out in 96-well microtiter dishes using the method of O’Toole et al. Our results show that no clear relation observed between origin and serotype groups. In the other hand, we observed that not all studied strains were able to form biofilm. Furthermore, combination of antigens H40 and K11 appears to be involved in biofilm formation. In fact, the H antigen seems to be implicated in the placement of the bacterial cells near the surface and the K antigen may play a role in physicochemical interactions between bacteria and inert surface.

Morphometric Assessment of Two Watersheds of High Atlas of Morocco Using Remote Sensing and GIS Techniques: What Is the Impact on Surface Water Availability?

The abundance or scarcity of surface water in a watershed is related to environmental factors including its morphology, substrate type, rainfall, slope, and exposure to moist air masses. The combination of these characteristics explains the hydrological behavior of the river network, knowledge of which is important for water resources management. Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing are efficient tools to assess the morphometric characteristic in a watershed. Using these tools, the physical characterization of the two water basins located on either side of the High Atlas of Morocco was investigated in this study. The results show that the Upper Draa basin is characterized by an elongated shape, with a drainage density of 0.14 km/km2. Altitudes and slopes vary little and slopes are oriented in most cases towards the southeast (27.34%). Substrate is mostly permeable, which promotes infiltration and aridity of the soil. This contrasts with the Zat basin that is characterized by very variable elevations and slopes, and slopes are mainly exposed to the North and North-West (30.42%), which therefore favors strong runoff and a very high flow velocity. The hydrological contrast observed in the two basins impacts the human use of surface water. These results effectively explain the hydrological behavior and provide managers with useful information for better management and decision-making regarding the two studied hydro systems.

The consumption of non-potable water is the main cause of mortality and morbidity in the world [1]. 88% of diarrhea cases worldwide are attributed to unsafe drinking water;inadequate sanitation or inadequate is responsible for 1.5 million of deaths every year, mostly in children [1] [2]. Household waste. Leachate can be considered among the potential sectors that can contribute to the degradation of water quality and soil. To this end, we selected physico-chemical inorganic elements like indicator of pollution in the neighboring groundwater discharge of the water table in the region of Ouled Berjal to assess the quality of the region’s water wells in M’nasra. The wells in full discharge have a very high pollution levels and water collected from wells located right near the discharge of Ouled Berjal shows lower levels of contamination. So the well water away from the landfill is quite low compared to the other groups.

Background: Severe acute colitis is a common complication of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Their diagnosis is based on clinical, laboratory, endoscopic and radiological. The severe acute colitis is a medical and surgical emergency;its mortality is 1% to 3%. The management should be swift and coordinated, upon admission, between medical and surgical teams. Methods: This is a retrospective study in Gastroenterology Service at the University Hospital HASSAN II Fez, over a period of 10 years (2005-2015). We included all patients admitted for severe acute colitis;all the epidemiological, clinical, endoscopic, histological, and therapeutic monitoring of patients were collected. Results: We collected 123 patients. Their average age was 35 years (16 - 70). It was a female predominance (sex ratio F/M = 1.19). 54 patients were admitted for an inaugural severe acute colitis (43%), while 69 patients were known carriers of IBD (56%). All patients were admitted to an array of severe acute colitis according to the criteria of Truelove and Witts modified. 9 patients were operated urgently because there was the presence of complications (5 cases of perforation, 3 cases of massive rectal bleeding, and one patient with an abscess in the right iliac fossa). Corticosteroids intravenously was administered to 114 patients, 74 patients (64%) had remission. Patients who have not responded to corticosteroids IV (N = 40): 1) 12 patients received treatment with oral cyclosporine: the remission rate was 66%. 2) 8 patients were put under Infliximab: The response rate was 75%. 3) Patients who have not responded to a second-line treatment underwent subtotal colectomy with a dual stoma. 4) The surgery was indicated as a second-line treatment in 20 patients who all received a subtotal colectomy with double stoma;totalizing colectomy and ileoanale anastomosis ware made in 4 patients. Introduction: The impact of pregnancy on the prognosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) has been debated for several decades;however, no definitive conclusions have been reached. The main objective of this study is to demonstrate the short-term influence of pregnancy on the evolution and prognosis of PTC. Materials and Methods: A prospective descriptive and analytical study was conducted in the Endocrinology and Diabetology Department at the Hassan II University Hospital in Fez, including patients followed for papillary thyroid carcinoma presenting with a pregnancy during the year 2019 and 2020. The follow-up of these patients was continued until 1 year postpartum. We studied the clinical, paraclinical and therapeutic factors that could influence the prognosis of the disease. Results: We included 26 patients. Our study showed a significant correlation between recurrence and the presence of unfavorable histological signs (p = 0.02) as well as the initial Tg level (0.01). However, pregnancy was not an influencing factor (p = 0.41). Conclusion: Pregnancy does not seem to be a factor aggravating the prognosis of differentiated thyroid cancers.

Peripheral Neuropathy under Infliximab Therapy: About One Case

A-TNF inhibitors are increasingly used in various inflammatory disorders. Multiple side effects have been reported in recent years, particularly peripheral neuropathies. We report a case of axonal neuropathy occurring after the start of treatment with Infliximab. This is a 47 years old patient, followed for Crohn’s disease requiring treatment with Infliximab. Twenty-two weeks later, the patient presented a grade 4 of axonal neuropathy. We concluded to a medicinal sensitive neuropathy after elimination of other etiologies. Given the severity of the neurological symptoms, we decided to change the therapeutic class.

A mercury （II） complex with 4.5-benzo-1.2-dithiol-3-thione （C7H4S3）（1）, [Hg2I4（C7H4S3）2] （2） was synthesized. The structure of the obtained complex （2） was characterized by crystallography, Infrared Spectroscopy （IR） analysis and theoretical study. The complex （2） has a dimeric structure, where each mercury atom takes a tetrahedral geometry and is coordinated by two bridging chloride, one terminal chloride and one thiocarbonyl sulfur atom （C=S） of the ligand.

Pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome PIMS is a new entity of systemic inflammatory disease in children that appeared in the epidemic context of COVID-19 infection in April 2020. The pathophysiological mechanisms of PIMS are poorly understood and the hypothesis of a maladaptive hyperactive immune response, notably involving cytokines, is described in the literature. In our study, we report our experience regarding the clinical presentation, diagnosis, management and outcome of patients who presented with pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome post COVID-19.
