Introduction:Multicentric reticulohistiocytosis(MRH)is a rare disease that is known to affect the skin and joints,*** is considered a rare form of non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis(Group C)that can cause destructive inflammatory arthritis involving both the small and large *** eruptions of periungual,“coral beads”and nodules appearing over the distal fingers are considered pathognomonic clues for identifying this *** evaluation of the cutaneous papules typically shows infiltrative histiocytes and multinucleated giant *** no well-established therapies exist to date,a variety of immunosuppressants have been used with varying degrees of *** Description:A 53-year-old Caucasian female patient with a family history of rheumatoid arthritis and a personal history of Sjogren's syndrome presented to the rheumatology clinic complaining of pain in her bilateral hands and *** were several small,papulo-nodular lesions ranging from 1 to 2mm in size noted at the base of her nails.A 4mm punch biopsy of one of the papules from the neck showed dermal infiltration of eosinophilic mononucleated and multinucleated giant cells with“ground glass”appearing cytoplasm consistent with MRH.X-ray of her hands showed periarticular demineralization and erosions surrounding several bilateral proximal and distal interphalangeal joints,and thus tofacitinib in addition to methotrexate,hydroxychloroquine,and dexamethasone(dosed weekly)was started to help control any further articular ***:Our aim is to further support the relation of MRH with autoimmune diseases,including Sjogren's *** diseases have been reported in association with MRH,although a clear association has yet to be made.

Central role of Yes-associated protein and WW-domain-containing transcriptional co-activator with PDZ-binding motif in pancreatic cancer development

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC) remains a deadly disease with no efficacious treatment options. PDAC incidence is projected to increase, which may be caused at least partially by the obesity epidemic. Significantly enhanced efforts to prevent or intercept this cancer are clearly warranted. Oncogenic KRAS mutations are recognized initiating events in PDAC development, however, they are not entirely sufficient for the development of fully invasive *** genetic alterations and/or environmental, nutritional, and metabolic signals, as present in obesity, type-2 diabetes mellitus, and inflammation, are required for full PDAC formation. We hypothesize that oncogenic KRAS increases the intensity and duration of the growth-promoting signaling *** exciting studies from different laboratories indicate that the activity of the transcriptional co-activators Yes-associated protein(YAP) and WW-domaincontaining transcriptional co-activator with PDZ-binding motif(TAZ) play a critical role in the promotion and maintenance of PDAC operating as key downstream target of KRAS signaling. While initially thought to be primarily an effector of the tumor-suppressive Hippo pathway, more recent studies revealed that YAP/TAZ subcellular localization and co-transcriptional activity is regulated by multiple upstream signals. Overall, YAP has emerged as a central node of transcriptional convergence in growth-promoting signaling in PDAC cells. Indeed, YAP expression is an independent unfavorable prognostic marker for overall survival of PDAC. In what follows, we will review studies implicating YAP/TAZ in pancreatic cancer development and consider different approaches to target these transcriptional regulators.

Effect of an electron gas on a neutron-rich nuclear pasta

We studied the role that electron gas has on the formation of nuclear structures at subsaturation densities and low temperatures(T<1 Me V).Using a classical molecular dynamics model we studied isospin symmetric and asymmetric matter at subsaturation densities and low temperatures varying the Coulomb interaction *** effect of such variation was quantified on the fragment size multiplicity,the inter-particle distance,the isospin content of the clusters,the nucleon mobility and cluster persistence,and on the nuclear structure *** found that the presence of an electron gas distributes matter more evenly,disrupts the formation of larger objects,reduces the isospin content,and modifies the nucleon average displacement,but does not affect the inter-nucleon distance in *** nuclear structures are also found to change shapes by different degrees depending on their isospin content,temperature and density.

Quantitative Structural Models to Assess Credit Risk on Individuals

Default Probabilities quantitatively measures the credit risk that a borrower will be unable or unwilling to repay its debt. An accurate model to estimate, as a function of time, these default probabilities is of crucial importance in the credit derivatives market. In this work, we adapt Merton’s [1] original works on credit risk, consumption and portfolio rules to model an individual wealth scenario, and apply it to compute this individual default probabilities. Using our model, we also compute the time depending individual default intensities, recovery rates, hazard rate and risk premiums. Hence, as a straight-forward application, our model can be used as novel way to measure the credit risk of individuals.

The production of plastics has exponentially increased over time such that the observation of microplastics in the oceans has become a major concern given how frequently these particles and marine biota may *** can be ingested by diverse species,including invertebrates,which can lead to physical damage due to their small size and potentially chemical damage related to the ingestion of monomers,polymeric additives,or adsorbed *** study reports on the first evidence of microplastics in Mnemiopsis *** were described by type,quantified,and had their chemical composition *** total,328 samples of microplastic(MP)candidates were observed:blue fibers were the most abundant,followed by black,red,and green fibers as well as blue *** types of microplastics were chemically identified as polyurethane,unplasticized polyvinylchloride,and polyethylene ***,this study demonstrated that Mnemiopsis leidyi have the capacity to incorporate *** more studies are needed,Mnemiopsis leidyi is relatively abundant on the Atlantic coast and should be recommended for use as a bioindicator for microplastics.

Although norovirus,rotavirus,adenovirus and Astrovirus are considered the most important viral agents transmitted by food and water,in recent years other viruses,such as Aichi virus(AiV),have emerged as responsible for gastroenteritis outbreaks associated with different *** belongs to the genus Kobuvirus of the family *** is a virus with icosahedral morphology that presents a single stranded RNA genome with positive sense(8280 nucleotides)and a poly(A)*** was first detected from clinical samples and in recent years has been involved in acute gastroenteritis outbreaks from different world ***,several studies conducted in Japan,Germany,France,Tunisia and Spain showed a high prevalence of AiV antibodies in adults(between 80%and 99%),which is indicative of a large exposure to this *** aim of this review is to bring together all the discovered information about the emerging pathogen human Aichi virus(AiV),discussing the possibles routes of transmission,new detection techniques and future *** AiV is responsible for a low percentage of gastroenteritis outbreaks,the high seroprevalence shown by human populations indicates an evident role as an enteric *** low percentage of AiV detection could be explained by the fact that the pathogen is more associated to subclinical *** studies will be needed to clarify the real impact of AiV in human health and its importance as a causative gastroenteritis agent worldwide.

Historical fluxes of metal and metalloids in an aquatic ecosystem affected by land-use change and mining activities in northwestern Mexico

Freshwater reservoirs are essential owing because of their ecological, economic, and social *** are particularly vulnerable to contamination, as of metal and metalloids, derived from anthropogenic activities like mining. The temporal variations in trace element concentrations(arsenic(As),mercury(Hg), chromium(Cr), copper(Cu), nickel(Ni), lead(Pb), and zinc(Zn)), enrichment, fluxes, and possible sources were evaluated by studying two sediment cores from the La Angostura(ANG) Reservoir(northwest Mexico), using210Pb geochronology. The enrichment factors showed from null to minor enrichment for most elements, but moderate to severe enrichment of mercury(Hg). Most trace element concentrations had a detrital origin, and notable Hg concentration increases since the past decade were associated with severe drought periods, likely resulting from wildfires. The observed sediment concentrations of As and Hg can cause adverse effects on biota in the ecosystem since they are above the probable effect level(PEL). Development of strategies for metal attenuation in this reservoir is recommended and metals should be controlled until specific ecotoxicological studies are performed.

The blood-brain barrier is the interface through which the brain interacts with the milieu and consists mainly of a sophisticated network of brain endothelial cells that forms blood vessels and selectively moves molecules inside and outside the brain through multiple mechanisms of *** brain endothelial cell function is crucial for brain homeostasis,their role in neurodegenerative diseases has historically not been considered with the same importance as other brain cells such as microglia,astroglia,neurons,or even molecules such as amyloid beta,Tau,or ***'s disease is the most common neurodegenerative disease,and brain endothelial cell dysfunction has been reported by several ***,its impairment has barely been considered as a potential therapeutic *** we review the most recent advances in the relationship between Alzheimer's disease and brain endothelial cells commitment and analyze the possible mechanisms through which their alterations contribute to this neurodegenerative disease,highlighting their inflammatory phenotype and the possibility of an impaired secretory pattern of brain endothelial cells that could contribute to the progression of this ***,we discuss why shall brain endothelial cells be appreciated as a therapeutic target instead of solely an obstacle for delivering treatments to the injured brain in Alzheimer's disease.

Local hardening and asymmetric twin growth by twin-twin interactions in a Mg alloy

In this study,the role of twin-twin interactions on the distributions of local defects(e.g.,dislocations)and stress fields in a magnesium alloy is investigated.A co-zone(1012)-(1012)tensile twin junction in a deformed Mg-3wt.%Y alloy is analyzed using transmission electron microscopy(TEM).The results show that the morphology of the impinging(1012)twin is asymmetric,and the non-interacting boundary of the recipient(1012)twin is *** analysis of TEM images reveals that type-II pyramidal[1213](1212)dislocations concentrate in the vicinity of the twin-twin junction *** samedislocations are also observed inside the interacting twin domains along with a few ***dislocations emanating from the impinging(1012)twin boundary have edge character and are extended with faults parallel to the basal *** contrast,thedislocations connected to the recipient(1012)twin are predominantly screw orientation and ***-viscoplastic fast Fourier transform based crystal plasticity calculations are performed to rationalize the observed twin morphology and local dislocation *** model calculations suggest that the local stress fields generated at the junction site where the two twins meet are responsible for the experimentally observed concentration of*** calculated stress fields are asymmetric with respect to the junction site,explaining the observed asymmetric morphology of the impinging ***,these findings show strong effects of twin-twin interactions on the distribution of dislocations as well as the evolution of the twinned microstructure and as such,can help advance understanding of twinning in Mg alloys and their effect on mechanical behavior.
