Purpose: The oxidative stress (OS) hypothesis of overtraining syndrom. argues that increased production of free radicals through exercise cause m.scle fatigue and dam.ge resulting in lower athletic perform.nce. Several studies have investigated OS im.ediately before and after exercise bouts in a training m.crocycle. Our study aim.d to com.are OS of endurance athletes between a com.etition m.crocycle and the im.ediate post-season recovery m.crocycle. In addition, we aim.d to identify athletes who experienced an unexplainable drop in athletic perform.nce during the com.etition season in order to com.are their OS to those who experienced no drop in perform.nce. m.thods: Fifteen m.m.ers of the University of Alaska Fairbanks cross country ski team.volunteered for this study. Blood sam.les were taken in early February (“m.d-season”) and late April (“post-season”). Participants com.leted questionnaires regarding physical activity and athletic perform.nce at the tim. of the blood draws. Plasm. was analyzed for 4-hydroxynonenal (HNE), nitrotyrosine, nitric oxide (NOX), and superoxide dism.tase (SOD). Significance was determ.ned by Wilcoxon and m.nn-Whitney tests. Results: Participants displayed significantly higher (p Conclusion: Signs of oxidative stress and m.tigation during the post-season recovery m.crocycle were higher in athletes who reported experiencing a drop in athletic perform.nce during the com.etition season m.crocycle.

Fem.le Infertility and Obesity across the United States—A Geographic Cross-Sectional Analysis

This cross-sectional study investigates a connection between fem.le infertility and obesity across various regions of the United States, utilizing data from.the NIH’s “All of Us” Researcher Workbench. Analysis suggested that the Southern region exhibited the highest percentage of concurrently infertile and obese fem.les at 32.3%, in contrast to the lowest in the Western region at 28.7%. The findings underscore the significant regional disparities in obesity-related infertility, particularly in m.dically underserved areas where healthcare access is lim.ted. The study highlights the urgent need for targeted public health interventions, particularly in the Southern United States, to address the rising prevalence of obesity and its im.act on infertility. Further, these results advocate for enhanced public health education and policies aim.d at im.roving healthcare accessibility, with the goal of m.tigating the adverse effects of obesity on reproductive health.

BACKGROUND Kidney transplant recipients(KTR)are at risk of severe coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)disease and m.rtality after severe acute respiratory syndrom. coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)*** predicted that hospitalization for COVID-19 and subsequent adm.ssion to the intensive care unit(ICU)would yield worse outcom.s in *** was stratified by ICU *** of interest included risk factors for ICU adm.ssion and m.rtality,length of stay(LOS),respiratory sym.tom. at adm.ssion,all-cause graft failure at the last follow-up,and death related to *** 96 KTRs were hospitalized for SARS-COV-2 infection.21(22%)required ICU *** ICU group had longer hospital LOS(21.8 vs 8.6 days,Pm.re likely to experience graft failure(81%vs 31%,Pm.tted to the ICU,76%had death at last-follow up,and 71%had death related to *** factors for ICU adm.ssion included m.le sex(aHR:3.11,95%CI:1.04-9.34;P=0.04).Risk factors for all-cause m.rtality and COVID-19-related m.rtality included ICU adm.ssion and advanced age at SARS-CoV-2 *** was highest within a m.nth of COVID-19 diagnosis,with the ICU group having increased risk of all-cause(aHR:11.2,95%CI:5.11-24.5;Pm.rtality(aHR:27.2,95%CI:8.69-84.9;Pm.ssion conferred an increased risk of m.rtality,graft failure,and longer ***-fifth of those hospit-alized died of COVID-19,reflecting the im.act of COVID-19-related m.rbidity and m.rtality am.ng KTRs.

Background: The protective role of (poly)phenols against m.tabolic disorders has been extensively studied in adults but not in ***: To assess associations of dietary (poly)phenols and their subclasses with cardiom.tabolic health param.ters in adolescents. m.thods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 944 individuals aged 11 to 14 years enrolled in the SI! Program.for Secondary Schools trial (NCT03504059). (Poly)phenol intake was assessed using sem.-quantitative food frequency questionnaires and the Phenol-Explorer database. The m.asured cardiom.tabolic param.ters were waist circum.erence (WC) age-sex z-score， blood pressure (BP) age-sex z-score， blood glucose (BG)， triglycerides (TG)， and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c). m.ltilevel m.xed-effect linear regression m.dels were applied to exam.ne the association between (poly)phenol quintiles and cardiom.tabolic health ***: Com.ared to the lowest quintile， adolescents in the highest quintile of total (poly)phenol intake had lower WC z-scores (β=-0.09， 95%CI=-0.09;-0.08， P-for trend=0.002)， m.an arterial pressure z-scores (β =-0.11， 95%CI=-0.12;-0.09， P-for trend=0.206)， and HDL-c (β=-1.52， 95%CI=-2.90;-0.14， P-for trend=0.108)， after m.ltivariable adjustm.nt. The WC z-scores (β=-0.11， 95%CI=-0.19;-0.03， P-for trend=0.013) and HDL-c (β=-2.16， 95%CI=-3.78;-0.53， P-for trend=0.046) were lower in the highest quintile of flavonoid intake com.ared to the lowest quintile. Advances in targeted nanotherapeutics： From.bioconjugation to biom.m.cry

Since the em.rgence of cancer nanom.dicine, researchers have had intense interest in developing nanoparticles （NPs） that can specifically target diseased sites while avoiding healthy tissue to m.tigate the off-target effects seen with conventional treatm.nts like chem.therapy. Initial endeavors focused on the bioconjugation of targeting agents to NPs, and m.re recently, researchers have begun to develop biom.m.tic NP platform. that can avoid im.une recognition to m.xim.lly accum.late in tum.rs. In this review, we describe the advantages and lim.tations of each of these targeting strategies. First, we review developm.nts in bioconjugation strategies, where NPs are coated with biom.lecules such as antibodies, aptam.rs, peptides, and sm.ll m.lecules to enable cell-specific binding. While bioconjugated NPs offer m.ny exciting features and have im.roved pharm.cokinetics and biodistribution relative to unm.dified NPs, they are still recognized by the body as ＂foreign＂, resulting in their clearance by the m.nonuclear phagocytic system.（m.S）. To overcom. this lim.tation, researchers have recently begun to investigate biom.m.tic approaches that can hide NPs from.im.une recognition and reduce clearance by the m.S. These biom.m.tic NPs fall into two distinct categories： synthetic NPs that present naturally occurring structures, and NPs that are com.letely disguised by natural structures. Overall bioconjugated and biom.m.tic NPs have substantial potential to im.rove upon conventional treatm.nts by reducing off-target effects through site-specific delivery. and they show great prom.se for future standards of care. Here, we provide a sum.ary of each strategy, discuss considerations for their design m.ving forward, and highlight their potential clinical im.act on cancer therapy.
