Tendon and ligament(TL)injuries affect millions of people *** play a significant role in TL tissue repair,whether the treatment relies on tissue engineering strategies or using artificial tendon *** biopolymer governs the mechanical properties,biocompatibility,degradation,and fabrication method of the TL *** natural,synthetic and hybrid biopolymers have been studied in TL regeneration,often combined with therapeutic agents and minerals to engineer novel scaffold ***,most of the advanced biopolymers have not advanced to clinical use ***,we aim to review recent biopolymers and discuss their features for TL tissue *** introducing the properties of the native tissue,we discuss different types of natural,synthetic and hybrid biopolymers used in TL tissue ***,we review biopolymers used in commercial absorbable and non-absorbable TL ***,we explain the challenges and future directions for the development of novel biopolymers in TL regenerative treatment.

Biopolymers play a critical role as scaffolds used in tendon and ligament(TL)*** advanced biopolymer materials have been proposed with optimised mechanical properties,biocompatibility,degradation,and processability,it is still challenging to find the right balance between these ***,we aim to develop novel hybrid biocomposites based on poly(p-dioxanone)(PDO),poly(lactide-co-caprolactone)(LCL)and silk to produce high-performance grafts suitable for TL tissue *** containing 1-15%of silk were studied through a range of characterisation *** then explored biocompatibility through in vitro and in vivo studies using a mouse *** found that adding up to 5%silk increases the tensile properties,degradation rate and miscibility between PDO and LCL phases without agglomeration of silk inside the ***,addition of silk increases surface roughness and *** vitro experiments show that the silk improved attachment of tendon-derived stem cells and proliferation over 72 h,while in vivo studies indicate that the silk can reduce the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines after six weeks of ***,we selected a promising biocomposite and created a prototype TL graft based on extruded *** found that the tensile properties of both individual fibres and braided grafts could be suitable for anterior cruciate ligament(ACL)repair applications.

Background Schistosomiasis is highly endemic in sub-Saharan Africa and frequently imported to Europe. male urogenital manifestations are often neglected. We aimed to ascertain the prevalence of genitourinary clinical signs and symptoms among long-term African migrants in a non-endemic European country using a serology *** We carried out a prospective, community-based cross-sectional study of adult male migrants from sub-Saharan Africa living in *** serology tests and microscopic urine examinations were carried out, and clinical data were obtained from an electronic medical record search and a structured *** We included 388 adult males, mean age 43.5 years [Standard deviation (SD) = 12.0, range: 18–76]. The median time since migration to the European Union was 17 [Interquartile range (IQR): 11–21] years. The most frequent country of origin was Senegal (N = 179, 46.1%). Of the 338, 147 (37.6%) tested positive forSchistosoma. Parasite eggs were present in the urine of only 1.3%. Nine genitourinary clinical items were significantly associated with positiveSchistosoma serology results: pelvic pain (45.2%;OR = 1.57, 95%CI: 1.0–2.4), pain on ejaculation (14.5%;OR = 1.85, 95%CI: 1.0–3.5), dyspareunia (12.4%;OR = 2.45, 95%CI: 1.2–5.2), erectile dysfunction (9.5%;OR = 3.10, 95%CI: 1.3–7.6), self-reported episodes of infertility (32.1%;OR = 1.69, 95%CI: 1.0–2.8), haematuria (55.2%;OR = 2.37, 95%CI: 1.5–3.6), dysuria (52.1%;OR = 2.01, 95%CI: 1.3–3.1), undiagnosed syndromic STIs (5.4%), and orchitis (20.7%;OR = 1.81, 95%CI: 1.0–3.1). AIm:To examine the detection rate of viable mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis(mAP) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease [Crohn's disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis(UC)].mETHODS:Thirty patients with CD(15 with at least one NOD2/CARD15 mutation),29 with UC,and 10 with no inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).were tested for mAP by polymerase chain reaction(specific IS900 fragment) and blood ***:mAP DNA was detected in all original blood samples and 8-wk blood cultures(CD,UC and non-IBD).Positive mAP DNA status was confirmed by dot blot *** 69 cultures were negative by acid-fast Ziehl-Neelsen *** mAP,in spheroplast form,was isolated from the 18-mo blood cultures of all 30 CD patients,one UC patient,and none of the non-IBD *** association was found between positive mAP cultures and use of immunosuppressive drugs or CDassociated single nucleotide ***:mAP is widely present in our area and mAP DNA can be recovered from the blood of CD,UC and non-IBD ***,mAP spheroplasts were only found in CD patients.

Saffron(Crocus sativus L.)has been traditionally used in food preparation and as a medicinal *** currently has numerous therapeutic properties attributed to it,such as protection against ischemia,as well as anticonvulsant,antidepressant,anxiolytic,hypolipidemic,anti-atherogenic,anti-hypertensive,antidiabetic,and anti-cancer *** addition,saffron has remarkable beneficial properties,such as anti-apoptotic,anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities,due to its main metabolites,among which crocin and crocetin stand ***,increasing evidence underwrites the possible neuroprotective role of the main bioactive saffron constituents in neurodegenerative diseases,such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases,both in experimental m.dels and in clinical studies in ***,saffron supplementation is being tested for ocular neurodegenerative pathologies,such as diabetic retinopathy,retinitis pigmentosa,age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma,among others,and shows beneficial *** present article provides a comprehensive and up to date report of the investigations on the beneficial effects of saffron extracts on the main neurodegenerative ocular pathologies and other ocular *** review showed that saffron extracts could be considered promising therapeutic agents to help in the treatment of ocular neurodegenerative diseases.

The emerging contaminants(ECs)are organic compounds including *** products are consumed in large quantities,favoring their continuous entrance to the environment and affecting the health of living *** is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with analgesic properties of prolonged *** is the commonest postoperative analgesic,and it is highly consumed without *** recent years,the capability of microalgae to remove pharmaceuticals in water has been tested as a promising *** this work,the removal efficiency of diclofenac(16µg/mL)by the microalga Nannochloropsis oculata CCAP 186/7 was *** major nutrient concentrations in Bold’s Basal medium were modified(nitrogen and carbon:50 and 100%of their original concentration)to know their effect in the removal of *** degradation by light was also *** maximum removal capacity of diclofenac in the medium was 68.8%.The percentage of diclofenac adsorbed on the cell wall was between 6 and 12.7%.Around 23.6%of diclofenac was degraded by light after 18 *** did not show growth inhibition due to the presence of *** results obtained point to the promissory application of *** as a bioremediation system for diclofenac removal.

In Arabidopsis thaliana, multiple genes involved in shoot apical meristem （SAm） transitions have been char- acterized, but the mechanisms required for the dynamic attainment of vegetative, inflorescence, and floral meristem （Vm, Im, Fm） cell fates during SAm transitions are not well understood. Here we show that a mADS-box gene, XAANTAL2 （XAL2/AGL14）, is necessary and sufficient to induce flowering, and its regula- tion is important in Fm maintenance and determinacy, xal2 mutants are late flowering, particularly under short-day （SD） condition, while XAL2 overexpressing plants are early flowering, but their flowers have vege- tative traits. Interestingly, inflorescences of the latter plants have higher expression levels of LFY, AP1, and TFL1 than wild-type plants. In addition we found that XAL2 is able to bind the TFL1 regulatory regions. On the other hand, the basipetal carpels of the 35S：：XAL2 lines lose determinacy and maintain high levels of WUS expression under SD condition. To provide a mechanistic explanation for the complex roles of XAL2 in SAm transitions and the apparently paradoxical phenotypes of XAL2 and other mADS-box （SOCl, AGL24） over- expressors, we conducted dynamic gene regulatory network （GRN） and epigenetic landscape m.deling. We uncovered a GRN module that underlies Vm, Im, and Fm gene configurations and transition patterns in wild- type plants as well as loss and gain of function lines characterized here and previously. Our approach thus provides a novel mechanistic framework for understanding the complex basis of SAm.development.
