Genomics and morphometrics reveal the adaptive evolution of pikas

Pikas(Lagomorpha: Ochotonidae) are small mouselike lagomorphs. To investigate their adaptation to different ecological environments during their dispersal from the Qinghai-Xizang(Tibet) Plateau(QTP), we collected 226 pikas and measured 20 morphological characteristics and recorded habitat information. We also sequenced the genome of 81specimens, representing 27 putative pika *** genome-wide tree based on 4?090 coding genes identified five subgenera, i.e., Alienauroa, Conothoa,Lagotona, Ochotona, and Pika, consistent with morphometric data. Morphologically, Alienauroa and Ochotona had similar traits, including smaller size and earlier divergence time compared to other ***, the habitats of Alienauroa and Ochotona differed from those of the remaining subgenera. Phylogenetic signal analysis detected 83 genes significantly related to morphological characteristics, including several visual and hearingrelated genes. Analysis of shared amino acid substitutions and positively selected genes(PSGs) in Alienauroa and Ochotona identified two genes, i.e.,mitochondrial function-related TSFM(p.Q155e) and low-light visual sensitivity-related PrOM1(p.H419Y).Functional experiments demonstrated that TSFM-155e significantly enhanced mitochondrial function compared to TSFM-155Q in other pikas, and PrOM1-419Y decreased the modeling of dynamic intracellular chloride efflux upon calcium uptake. Alienauroa and Ochotona individuals mostly inhabit different environments(e.g., subtropical forests) than other pikas, suggesting that a shift from the larger ancestral type and changes in sensory acuity and energy enhancement may have been required in their new environments. This study increases our understanding of the evolutionary history of pikas.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease （COPD） is characterized by chronic irreversible inflammation and progressive decline in lung function. While smoking and other environmental agents （e.g., air pollutants） are common causes of COPD, the major challenges in managing this condition are the persistent inflammation and functional deterioration which are not reversed by removal of precipitating agents （e.g., smoking cessation） or treatment with anti-inflammatory agents.

Overview of the Global electricity System in Oman Considering energy Demand Model Forecast

Lately,in modern smart power grids,energy demand for accurate forecast of electricity is gaining attention,with increased interest of *** is due to the fact that a good energy demand forecast would lead to proper responses for electricity *** addition,proper energy demand forecast would ensure efficient planning of the electricity industry and is critical in the scheduling of the power grid capacity and management of the entire power *** most power systems are been deregulated and with the rapid introduction and development of smart-metering technologies in Oman,new opportunities may arise considering the efficiency and reliability of the power system;like price-based demand response *** programs could either be a large scale for household,commercial or industrial ***,excellent demand forecasting models are crucial for the deployment of these smart metering in the power grid based on good knowledge of the electricity market ***,in this paper,an overview of the Oman regulatory regime,financial mechanism,price control,and distribution system security standard were *** so,the energy demand forecast in Oman was analysed,using the econometric model to forecasts its energy peak *** energy econometric analysis in this study describes the relationship between the growth of historical electricity consumption and macro-economic parameters(by region,and by tariff),considering a case study of Mazoon electricity Distribution Company(MZeC),which is one of the major power distribution companies in Oman,for effective energy demand in the power grid.

Introduction Post-traumatic osteoarthritis(PTOA)is a long-term adverse consequence of joint trauma,e.g.,meniscus or ligament tears,which are among the most common injuries for young adults with excessive physical activities,such as athletes and military ***,few preventive treatments exist for PTOA,with typical outcomes being gradual cartilage degeneration and eventual loss of joint *** and altered etabolism of chondrocytes,the sole cell type in cartilage,may be responsible for the development of PTOA in a subset of patients without traumatic cartilage destruction but with persistent altered joint loading post-trauma,which is the focus of this study.

Lycopene is a naturally occurring red carotenoid compound that is found in *** has antioxidant *** content,sugar content and hollowheart resistance are subject to significant genotype×environment interaction(G×e),which makes breeding for these fruit quality traits *** objectives of this study were to(i)evaluate the influence of years and locations on lycopene content,sugar content and hollowheart resistance for a set of watermelon genotypes,and(ii)identify genotypes with high stability for lycopene,sugar,and hollowheart resistance.A diverse set of 40 genotypes was tested over 3 years and 8 locations across the southern United States in replicated,multi-harvest *** was tested in a subset of 10 *** were analyzed using univariate and multivariate stability statistics(BLUP-GGe biplot)using SASGxe and rGxe *** were strong effects of environment as well as G×e interaction on watermelon quality *** the basis of stability measures,genotypes were classified as stable or unstable for each quality trait.'Crimson Sweet'is an inbred line with high quality trait performance as well as trait stability.'Stone Mountain','Tom Watson','Crimson Sweet'and'Minilee'were among the best genotypes for lycopene content,sugar content and hollowheart *** developed a stability chart based on marketable yield and average ranking generated from different stability measures for yield attributes and quality *** chart will assist in choosing parents for improvement of watermelon *** http://***/cucurbit/wmelon/***.

Achieving China’s goal of reducing its carbon intensity(CO2 per unit of GDP) by 40% to 45% percent below 2005 levels by 2020 will require the strengthening and expansion of energy efficiency policies across the buildings,industries and transport *** study uses a bottom-up,end-use model and two scenarios——anenhancedenergy efficiency(e3) scenario and an alternative maximum technically feasible energy efficiency improvement(Max Tech) scenario-to evaluate what policies and technical improvements are needed to achieve the 2020 carbon intensity reduction *** findings from this study show that a determined approach by China can lead to the achievement of its 2020 *** particular,with full success in deepening its energy efficiency policies and programs but following the same general approach used during the 11th Five Year Plan,it is possible to achieve 49% reduction in CO2 emissions per unit of GDP(CO2 emissions intensity) in 2020 from 2005 levels(e3 case).Under the more optimistic but feasible assumptions of development and penetration of advanced energy efficiency technology(Max Tech case),China could achieve a 56% reduction in CO2 emissions intensity in 2020 relative to 2005 with cumulative reduction of energy use by 2700 Mtce and of CO2 emissions of 8107 Mt CO2 between 2010 and *** savings and CO2 mitigation potential varies by sector but most of the energy savings potential is found in energy-intensive *** the same time,electricity savings and the associated emissions reduction are magnified by increasing renewable generation and improving coal generation efficiency,underscoring the dual importance of end-use efficiency improvements and power sector decarbonization.

Service Pricing Decision of e-Commerce Supply Chain Members Considering Diseconomies of Scale and Network externalities

Considering diseconomies of scale and network externalities in the e-commerce supply chain(eCSC),we construct an e-platform-led benchmark model and derive the optimal ***,the model is extended by endogenizing the impact of service level on network *** service investment that includes fixed and variable investments,the model is further *** the extended models with the benchmark model,we found the following *** the e-platform dominates the eCSC,its profit is lower than the *** corporate profits,service level,and price increase with network *** in diseconomies of scale decrease the corporate profits and service level,but increase the price.A high-quality service combined with network externalities can achieve synergy and improve the e-platform’s economies of scale,further generating a higher *** network externalities promotes the fair profit distributionin eCSC and achieves stable development.
