Hepatocellular carcinoma and musculoskeletal system: A narrative literature review

Musculoskeletal alterations in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)are less common than liver-related ***,they can significantly impact the quality of life and overall prognosis of patients with *** main obstacle in the clinical assessment of HCC-induced musculoskeletal alterations is related to effective and timely diagnosis because these complications are often asym-ptomatic and unapparent during routine clinical *** narrative literature review aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the contem-porary literature related to the changes in the musculoskeletal system in patients with HCC,focusing on its clinical implications and underlying etiopathogenetic *** bone metastases are the most common skeletal alterations associated with HCC,which could be associated with an increased risk of low-trauma bone ***,previous studies reported that osteopenia,sarcopenia,and myosteatosis are associated with poor clinical outcomes in patients with *** though low bone mineral density and sarcopenia are consistently reported as reliable predictors of pretransplantation and post-transplantation mortality in HCC patients,these complications are frequently overlooked in the clinical management of patients with *** together,contemporary literature suggests that a multidisciplinary approach is essential for early recognition and clinical management of HCC-associated musculoskeletal alterations to improve patient *** research into the mechanisms and treatment options for musculoskeletal complications is warranted to enhance our understanding and clinical management of this aspect of HCC.

In this work,monoclinic Bi_(2)O_(3) was applied for the first time,to the best of our knowledge,as a catalyst in the process of dye degradation by a non-thermal atmospheric-pressure positive pulsating corona *** research focused on the interaction of the plasma-generated species and the catalyst,as well as the role of the catalyst in the degradation *** decomposition of the anthraquinone reactive dye Reactive Blue 19(RB 19) was performed in a selfmade reactor ***_(2)O_(3) was prepared by electrodeposition followed by thermal treatment,and characterized by x-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive xray *** was observed that the catalyst promoted decomposition of plasma-generated H_(2)O_(2) into ·OH radicals,the principal dye-degrading reagent,which further attacked the dye *** catalyst improved the decolorization rate by 2.5 times,the energy yield by 93.4%and total organic carbon removal by 7.1%.Excitation of the catalyst mostly occurred through strikes by plasma-generated reactive ions and radical species from the air,accelerated by the electric field,as well as by fast electrons with an energy of up to 15 eV generated by the streamers reaching the liquid *** strikes transferred the energy to the catalyst and created the electrons and holes,which further reacted with H_(2)O_(2) and water,producing ·OH *** was indentified as the primary role of the catalyst in this *** reactions followed pseudo first-order *** of H_(2)O_(2) and the dye degradation rate increased with increase in the input *** optimal catalyst dose was 500 mg·dm^(-3).The decolorization rate was a little lower in river water compared with that in deionized water due to the side reactions of ·OH radicals with organic matter and inorganic ions dissolved in the river water.

Blue Cap Is Effective and Safe for the Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis in Children

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common inflammatory skin disease in children. Treatment of AD is based on skin barrier repair and reduction of inflammation. We analyzed the efficacy and safety of activated piroctone olamine (APO)—Blue Cap—in children with AD. Materials and Methods: An open-label interventional clinical study was carried out at three clinical centers in Serbia. A total of 58 patients with AD, aged between 3 and 18 years were included and treated with Blue Cap Foam (100 ml;CATALYSIS S.L. Madrid)—Activated Piroctone Olamine—applied twice a day in the affected areas with eczema for 30 days and final assessment at 45 days from baseline. Photographic documentation, clinical evaluation, therapy effectiveness and safety questionnaires were assessed at baseline, 15, 30 and 45 days. Results: Our results demonstrated a significant reduction in signs (erythema, scaling, infiltration, excoriations, xerosis) and symptoms (pruritus) at weeks 2 and 4 of the study. At the end of the study, most patients had moderate (28.6%) to great (62.5%) disappearance of manifestations and moderate (25%) to great (71.4%) skin quality improvement. The effect and tolerability of the therapy were evaluated as very good in 66.1 % and 67.9% and good in about 14.3% and 17.9%, assessed by the investigator and patient, respectively. Three patients experienced a burning sensation at the beginning of the study, the side-effects were resolved as the patients continued applying the foam. After two weeks of cessation of the investigated foam, a significant percentage of patients experienced worsening in the final assessment done by the investigator as well as the participant. In the final assessment, a significantly high percentage (57.1%) of patients had a total reduction of manifestation, and a significant number of participants considered the applied product as treatment success, assessed by the investigator (62.5%) as well as the participants (66.4%). The snow line for the same precipitation event in alpine valleys can vary greatly from valley to valley, even when the valleys are close together. Often this is not due to a difference in air mass, but to a different interaction of topography and topographyrelated meteorological conditions. By knowing the causes of a lowered snow line, we can better understand the differences in snow cover in alpine valleys at the same elevation over short distances or the differences in snow cover between alpine valleys and areas outside the valleys. As different types of lowered snow line respond differently to climate change, we can also understand future changes in snow conditions in alpine valleys. To better understand the process, we observed the temperature conditions during winter precipitation events on the territory of Eastern Julian Alps(Slovenia) over a period of two years, focusing on the height of the zero isotherm. Depending on atmospheric conditions, especially changes in the temperature profile and precipitation intensity during precipitation events, five causes of lowered snow line have been identified. These types can occur individually, but during multi-day snowfall events they occur frequently or in combination.

Given that the liver is involved in many metabolic mechanisms,it is not surprising that chronic liver disease(CLD)could have numerous *** osteoporosis and increased bone fragility are frequently overlooked complications in CLD *** studies implied that up to one-third of these individuals meet diagnostic criteria for osteopenia or *** publications indicated that CLD-induced bone fragility depends on the etiology,duration,and stage of liver ***,the increased fracture risk in CLD patients puts a severe socioeconomic burden on the health system and urgently requires more effective prevention,diagnosis,and treatment *** pathogenesis of CLD-induced bone loss is multifactorial and still insufficiently understood,especially considering the relative impact of increased bone resorption and reduced bone formation in these *** is essential to note that inconsistent findings regarding bone mineral density measurement were previously reported in these *** mineral density is widely used as the“golden standard”in the clinical assessment of bone fragility although it is not adequate to predict individual fracture ***,microscale bone alterations(bone microstructure,mechanical properties,and cellular indices)were analyzed in CLD *** studies further support the thesis that bone strength could be compromised in CLD individuals,implying that an individualized approach to fracture risk assessment and subsequent therapy is necessary for CLD ***,more well-designed studies are required to solve the bone fragility puzzle in CLD patients.
