Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBl) rarely occurs in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract with limited studies reported. We reviewed the clinical histories and pathology of four patients with GI PBl at our institute and similar case reports published in peer-reviewed journals. In our first case, a 40 year-old human immunodeficiency virus positive male presented with a hemorrhoid-like sensation, and was diagnosed with PBl via biopsy of a rectal mass. The second case involves a 65 year-old healthy male with bloody diarrhea who was found to have PBl in a resected sigmoid mass. The third patient was a 41 year-old male with a history of Crohn’s disease who presented with abdominal pain, diarrhea, and weight loss. A small intestinal mass (PBl) was removed. The fourth patient was a 65-year-old male who was found PBl after surgical resection of bowel for his florid Crohn’s disease. He later developed secondary acute myeloid leukemia. Clinical outcome was very poor in 3 out of 4 patients as reported in the literature. One patient survived chemotherapy followed by autologous transplant. The prototypical clinical presentation and variations of PBl can help create a more comprehensive differential diagnosis for GI tumors and establish an appropriate therapeutic guideline.

Within the framework of the circular economy,the waste litchi’s skins were upgraded and transformed into electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).The waste litchi’s skins were pyrolyzed,activated,and then used as carbon support for fabricating metal–nitrogen–carbons(M–N–Cs)which belong to a promising class of platinum group metal-free *** activated char was functionalized with transition metal(Fe,Ni,and Co)-phthalocyanine(Pc)in monometallic and bimetallic fashion by subjecting it to a thermal treatment at 600 and 900◦*** samples functionalized at 900℃ showed higher performance for HER due to the formation of metal nanoparticles,whereas the samples functionalized at 600℃ showed higher performance for ***,sample Ni–Co 900 had an overpotential of−0.38 V for HER,while the sample Fe 600 was the most active electrocatalyst for ORR by demonstrating the onset potential of∼0.9 V(a half-wave potential of∼0.81 V)with the least production of unwanted peroxide anion.

During the last decade,perovskite solar technologies underwent an impressive development,with power conversion efficiencies reaching 25.5%for single-junction devices and 29.8%for silicon-Perovskite tandem *** though research mainly focused on improving the efficiency of perovskite photovoltaics(PV),stability and scalability remain fundamental aspects of a mature photovoltaics *** n-i-p structure perovskite solar cells,using poly-triaryl(amine)(PTAA)as hole transport layer(HTl)allowed to achieve marked improvements in device stability compared with other common hole *** p-i-n structure,poly-triaryl(amine)is also routinely used as dopant-free hole transport layer,but problems in perovskite film growth,and its limited resistance to stress and imperfect batch-to-batch reproducibility,hamper its use for device *** previous computational investigations,in this work,we report the synthesis of two small-molecule organic hole transport layers(BPT-1,2),aiming to solve the above-mentioned issues and allow upscale to the module *** using BPT-1 and methylammonium-free perovskite,*** conversion efficiencies of 17.26%and 15.42%on a small area(0.09 cm^(2))and mini-module size(2.25 cm^(2)),respectively,were obtained,with a better reproducibility than with poly-triaryl(amine).Moreover,BPT-1 was demonstrated to yield more stable devices compared with poly-triaryl(amine)under IsOs-D1,T1,and l1 accelerated life-test protocols,reaching maximum T_(90)values>1000 h on all tests.

Background:Health workers(HWs)are at increased risk for severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2(sARs-CoV-2)infection and a possible source of nosocomial transmission *** the increased risk,the best surveillance strategy and management of exposed HWs are not yet well *** aim of this review was to summarize and critically analyze the existing evidence related to this topic in order to support public health strategies aimed at protecting HWs in the hospital *** text:A comprehensive computerized literature research from 1 January 2020 up to 22 May 2020 was made to identify studies analyzing the burden of infection,risk assessment,surveillance and management of HWs exposed to *** 1623 citation identified using MEDlINE,Embase,Google scholar and manual search,we included 43 studies,14 webpages and 5 ongoing *** workers have a high risk of acquiring infection while caring for coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** particular,some types exposures and their duration,as well as the inadequate or non-use of personal protective equipment(PPE)are associated with increased infection *** infection prevention and control procedures(IPC),adequate training programs on the appropriate use of PPE and close monitoring of HWs with symptom surveillance and testing are essential to significantly reduce the *** the moment there is not enough evidence to provide precise indications regarding pre-exposure prophylaxis(PREP)and post-exposure prophylaxis(PEP).Conclusions:During the spread of COVID-19 outbreak,numerous published papers investigated the epidemiology,risk assessment and prevention and control of ***,more high-quality studies are needed to provide valid recommendations for better management and for the clinical and microbiological surveillance of healthcare personnel.

Background:At present,there is a continuous flow of immigrants from the south of the world to north-western *** immigrants originate from areas of high-prevalence of viral hepatitis and pose a challenge to the healthcare systems of the host *** of this study is to evaluate the prevalence and virological and clinical characteristics of hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection in immigrants and the strategies to identify and take care of the immigrants infected with *** body:We conducted an electronic literature search in several biomedical databases,including PubMed,Google scholar,scopus,Web of science,using different combinations of key words:"HCV infection;chronic hepatitis C,immigrants;low-income countries".We included studies written in English indicating the epidemiological data of HCV infection in the immigrant population,studies that assessed the clinical presentation,clinical management and treatment with directly acting antiviral agent in immigrants,HCV infection is unevenly distributed in different countries,with worldwide prevalence in the general population ranging from 0.5 to 6.5%.In Western countries and Australia this rate ranges from 0.5 to 1.5%,and reaches 2.3%in countries of south-east Asia and eastern Mediterranean regions,3.2%in China,0.9%in India,2.2%in Indonesia and 6.5%in Pakistan;in sub-saharan Africa the prevalence of HCV infection varies from 4 to 9%.Immigrants and refugees from intermediate/high HCV endemic countries to less-or non-endemic areas are more likely to have an increased risk of HCV infection due to HCV exposure in their countries of *** of the high HCV endemicity in immigrant populations and of the high efficacy of directly acting antiviral agent therapy,a campaign could be undertaken to eradicate the infection in this ***:The healthcare authorities should support screening programs for immigrants,performed with the help of cultural mediators and including educational aspects to break

The purpose of this study was to investigate the primary mode of action of Cistus ladaniferus essential oil active fractions on staphylococcus aureus strain ATCC6538P (CIP 53.156). The mode of inhibition of the active fractions was assessed by determining the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). The effects of time on cell integrity were determined by time-kill, bacteriolysis and loss of 260 and 280-nm-absorbing material assays. Measurement of intra- and extracellular ATP was used to evaluate the energy remaining in the cells after treatment. A bacteriostatic and a bactericidal mode of inhibition were established respectively for acetate and alcohol fractions at their MIC. No intracellular material leakage and no lysis occurred after treatments with these fractions. In both cases, we observed a decrease of the ATP level within s. aureus cells whilst there was no proportional increase outside the cells. However, the effects induced by alcohols are more pronounced than those provoked by acetates. Indeed, marked structural changes were observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The septal material of cells undergoing division became thicker and stained more lightly. The proportion of septa is also markedly increased and defective with respect to placement. These observations suggest a blocking in cell division, probably caused by the inhibition of ATPase or a disturbance in proton motrice force by the hydrophobic molecules viridiflorol and ledol, mainly present in alcohol fraction.

Riboflavin, which improves energy metabolism similarly to coenzymeQ10(CoQ10), is effective in migraine prophylaxis. We compared CoQ10 (3×100 mg/day) and plac ebo in 42 migraine patients in a double-blind,randomized, placebo-controlled t ***10 was superior to placebo for attack-frequency, headache days and days -with-nausea in the third treatment month and well tolerated; 50%-responder -rate for attack frequency was 14.4%for placebo and 47.6%for CoQ10 (number-n eed- ed-to-treat: 3).CoQ10 is efficacious and well tolerated.
