Photon shifting and trapping in perovskite solar cells for improved efficiency and stability

Advanced light management techniques can enhance the sunlight absorption of perovskite solar cells(PSCs).When located at the front,they may act as a UV barrier,which is paramount for protecting the perovskite layer against UVenabled *** it was recently shown that photonic structures such as Escher-like patterns could approach the theoretical Lambertian-limit of light trapping,it remains challenging to also implement UV protection properties for these diffractive structures while maintaining broadband absorption ***,we propose a checkerboard(CB)tile pattern with designated UV photon conversion *** a combined optical and electrical modeling approach,this photonic structure can increase photocurrent and power conversion efficiency in ultrathin PSCs by 25.9%and 28.2%,*** further introduce a luminescent down-shifting encapsulant that converts the UV irradiation into Visible photons matching the solar cell absorption *** this end,experimentally obtained absorption and emission profiles of state-of-the-art down-shifting materials(i.e.,lanthanidebased organic-inorganic hybrids)are used to predict potential gains from harnessing the UV *** demonstrate that at least 94%of the impinging UV radiation can be effectively converted into the Visible spectral *** protection from high-energy photons contributes to the market deployment of perovskite solar cell technology,and may become crucial for Space applications under AM0 *** combining light trapping with luminescent downshifting layers,this work unravels a potential photonic solution to overcome UV degradation in PSCs while circumventing optical losses in ultrathin cells,thus improving both performance and stability.

Polarization Flipping of Even-Order harmonics in Monolayer Transition-Metal Dichalcogenides

We present a systematic study of the crystal-orientation dependence of high-harmonic generation in monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenides,WS2 and MoSe2,subjected to intense linearly polarized midinfrared laser *** measured spectra consist of both odd-and even-order harmonics,with a high-energy cutoff extending beyond the 15th order for a laser-field strength around~1 V/*** WS2,we find that the polarization direction of the odd-order harmonics smoothly follows that of the laser field irrespective of the crystal orientation,whereas the direction of the even-order harmonics is fixed by the crystal mirror ***,the polarization of the even-order harmonics shows a flip in the course of crystal rotation when the laser field lies between two of the crystal mirror *** numerically solving the semiconductor Bloch equations for a gapped-graphene model,we qualitatively reproduce these experimental features and find the polarization flipping to be associated with a significant contribution from interband *** contrast,high-harmonic signals from MoSe2 exhibit deviations from the laser-field following of oddorder harmonics and crystal-mirror-plane following of even-order *** attribute these differences to the competing roles of the intraband and interband contributions,including the deflection of the electron-hole trajectories by nonparabolic crystal bands.

The pygmy marmoset,the smallest of the anthropoid primates,has a broad distribution in Western *** studies using molecular and morphological data have identified two distinct species separated by the Napo and Solimoes-Amazonas ***,reconciling this new biological evidence with current taxonomy,i.e.,two subspecies,Cebuella pygmaea pygmaea(Spix,1823)and Cebuella pygmaea niveiventris(Lönnberg,1940),was problematic given the uncertainty as to whether Spix’s pygmy marmoset(Cebuella pygmaea pygmaea)was collected north or south of the Napo and Solimoes-Amazonas rivers,making it unclear to which of the two newly revealed species the name pygmaea would ***,we present the first molecular data from Spix’s type specimen of Cebuella pygmaea,as well as novel mitochondrial genomes from modern pygmy marmosets sampled near the type locality(Tabatinga)on both sides of the *** these data,we can confirm the correct names of the two species identified,i.e.,*** for animals north of the Napo and Solimoes-Amazonas rivers and *** for animals south of these two *** analyses of the novel genetic data placed into the context of cytochrome b gene sequences from across the range of pygmy marmosets further led us to reevaluate the geographical distribution for the two Cebuella *** dated the split of these two species to 2.54 million years *** discuss additional,more recent,subdivisions within each lineage,as well as potential contact zones between the two species in the headwaters of these rivers.

Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices of the Population of the District of Ahomadégbé(Municipality of Lalo) in Benin on Methods of Water Treatment at home

Water is an indispensable resource for life. In the district of Ahomadégbé in Benin, although most of the population has access to improved water sources, in their homes, residents consume poor water quality due to microbiological contamination during transport and storage. To identify necessary actions needed to improve household drinking water quality, the present study aims to analyze the knowledge, attitudes, and practices the district of Ahomadégbé’s population regarding household drinking water treatments methods. A study was conducted, where 377 residents were interviewed using an individual questionnaire and 82 participants were selected for eight focus groups to determine the population’s knowledge, attitudes, and practices. More than 65% of the district’s population knew some methods of water treatment at home. In practice, however, they lacked the knowledge to apply the different water treatment methods and only 6.1% of the population used at least one method of water treatment at home, even if it was not always adapted. The water treatment methods residents used were Alum (KAl(SO4)2·12 h2O, chemical decantation method), filtration on tissues, and disinfection by boiling. Ineffective home water treatment methods, such as oil and cresol were also used. The population is aware of water contamination during transport and storage. Unfortunately, most residents surveyed do not treat water before consumption, and those who treat it, use inappropriate methods. Thus, people must be made aware of the health benefits of using effective home water treatment methods and their correct use.

Wafer-level mass production of photonic integrated circuits(PIC)has become a technological mainstay in the field of optics and photonics,enabling many novel and disrupting a wide range of existing ***,scalable photonic packaging and system assembly still represents a major challenge that often hinders commercial adoption of PIC-based ***,chip-to-chip and fiber-to-chip connections often rely on so-called active alignment techniques,where the coupling efficiency is continuously measured and optimized during the assembly *** unavoidably leads to technically complex assembly processes and high cost,thereby eliminating most of the inherent scalability advantages of PIC-based *** this paper,we demonstrate that 3D-printed facet-attached microlenses(FaML)can overcome this problem by opening an attractive path towards highly scalable photonic system assembly,relying entirely on passive assembly techniques based on industry-standard machine vision and/or simple mechanical *** can be printed with high precision to the facets of optical components using multi-photon lithography,thereby offering the possibility to shape the emitted beams by freely designed refractive or reflective ***,the emitted beams can be collimated to a comparatively large diameter that is independent of the device-specific mode fields,thereby relaxing both axial and lateral alignment ***,the FaML concept allows to insert discrete optical elements such as optical isolators into the free-space beam paths between PIC *** show the viability and the versatility of the scheme in a series of selected experiments of high technical relevance,comprising pluggable fiber-chip interfaces,the combination of PIC with discrete micro-optical elements such as polarization beam splitters,as well as coupling with ultra-low back-reflection based on non-planar beam paths that only comprise tilted optical *** on our re

BACKGROUND The high prevalence and persistence of helicobacter pylori(h. pylori) infection, as well as the diversity of pathologies related to it, suggest that the virulence factors used by this microorganism are varied. Moreover, as its proteome contains 340hypothetical proteins, it is important to investigate them to completely understand the mechanisms of its virulence and survival. We have previously reported that the hypothetical protein hP0953 is overexpressed during the first hours of adhesion to inert surfaces, under stress conditions, suggesting its role in the environmental survival of this bacterium and perhaps as a virulence *** To investigate the expression and localization of hP0953 during adhesion to an inert surface and against gastric(AGS) *** Expression analysis was performed for hP0953 during h. pylori adhesion. hP0953 expression at 0,3, 12, 24, and 48 h was evaluated and compared using the Kruskal-Wallis equality-of-populations rank test. Recombinant protein was produced and used to obtain polyclonal antibodies for immunolocalization. Immunogold technique was performed on bacterial sections during adherence to inert surfaces and AGS cells, which was analyzed by transmission electron microscopy. hP0953 protein sequence was analyzed to predict the presence of a signal peptide and transmembrane helices, both provided by the ExPASy platform, and using the GLYCOPP platform for glycosylation sites. Estimation of Endotracheal Tube Cuff Pressure in a Large Teaching hospital in Ghana

Background: Maintenance of optimal Endotracheal Tube cuff Pressure (ETTcP) in anaesthetic practice reduces cuff pressure complications. Aneroid manometers for measurement of ETTcP are not widely available in Ghana, hence anaesthesia providers estimate ETTcP according to their experience. The study assessed ETTcP obtained from estimation techniques between anaesthesia providers at Korle-Bu Teaching hospital (KBTh). It also evaluated the Volume of Air Required (VAR) to obtain an acceptable cuff inflation pressure for sizes 7.0 and 8.0 mm adult endotracheal tubes used at the hospital, and the effect of patient’s age, weight and height on this volume. Methods: Eighty-one patients who underwent general anaesthesia were recruited. ETTcP was measured using an aneroid manometer via a three-way tap. After full cuff deflation, the cuff was refilled with air until an ETTcP of 20 cm h2O was obtained. Independent t-test was used to measure the statistical variations in the ETTcP using estimation techniques in relation to recommended levels as well as the significant difference of mean VAR to obtain a cuff pressure of 20 cm h2O. Grouped t-test was used to determine significant differences in ETTcP between anaesthesia providers using estimation techniques. Results: Mean ETTcP obtained from estimation techniques was (61.87, 73.79) cm h2O. The mean ETTcP measured for Physician and Nurse Anaesthetists were 65.36 cm h20 and 69.52 cm h2O respectively. The mean VAR to achieve an ETTcP of 20 cm h2O for endotracheal tube sizes 7.0 mm and 8.0 mm were 3.90 ± 1.13 mls and 4.55 ± 0.95 mls respectively. Age and weight significantly influenced the VAR to achieve a cuff pressure of 20 cm h2O, however, height did not. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that cuff pressures obtained by estimation techniques were generally higher than the recommended average with no significant difference between anaesthesia providers. however, in the absence of an aneroid manometer, ETTcP of tube sizes 7.0 mm and

Overview of a Cycle of Predicament： A Comparative Study Between Shylock and heathcliff Cyclic Process of Victimization

This paper attempts to explore how Shylock in William Shakespeare＇s The Merchant of Venice （1995） and heathcliff in Emily Bronte＇s Wuthering heights （2003） were victimized who became victimizer later to heal their wound and compensate their loss and how they were victimized in turn in doing so. Shylock was victimized by the christian society along with his own. his daughter left him in favor of the christians. he later became a victimizer but was ironically victimized in turn in wreaking vengeance on his foes in the court. Similarly, heathcliffs true spiritual love was rejected by his Catherine, neglected by everyone, physically and mentally abused. Later, he wreaked vengeance upon his foes but was victimized to death in turn. Shylock entered the court as a victimizer but left it as a victimized individual just as heathcliff entered the heights, after self-imposed exile, as a victimizer and left it as a victimized individual for good. Therefore, both of them experienced a cycle of victimization.
