Distinct potential aerosol masses under different scenarios of transport at a suburban site of Beijing

In order to evaluate the secondary aerosol formation potential at a suburban site of Beijing,in situ perturbation experiments in a potential aerosol mass（PAM） reactor were carried out in the winter of *** variations of secondary aerosol formation as a function of time,OH exposure,and the concentrations of gas phase pollutants and particles were reported in this *** periods with distinct secondary aerosol formation potentials,marked as Period Ⅰ and Period Ⅱ,were identified during the *** Period Ⅰ,the secondary aerosol formation potential was high,and correlated well to the air pollutants,i.e.,SO2,NO2,and *** maximal secondary aerosol formation was observed with an aging time equivalent to about 3 days of atmospheric *** period Ⅱ,the secondary aerosol formation potential was low,with no obvious correlation with the air ***,the aerosol mass decreased,instead of showing a peak,with increasing aging *** trajectory analysis during the two periods confirmed that the air mass in Period Ⅰwas mainly from local sources,while it was attributed mostly to long distance transport in Period Ⅱ.The air lost its reactivity during the long transport and the particles became highly aged,resulting in a low secondary aerosol formation *** experimental results indicated that the in situ measurement of the secondary aerosol formation potential could provide important information for evaluating the contributions of local emission and long distance transport to the aerosol pollution.

Gout,a common type of inflammatory arthritis resulting from chronic elevation of uric acid(UA)level,is usually accompanied with *** current clinical drugs for the treatment of gout and hyperuricemia are greatly restricted by their limited therapeutic efficacy,off-target toxicity and severe side ***,a neutrophil membrane(NM)-coated and cascade catalytic nanoenzyme was devised with excellent inflammation targeting,inflammatory cytokines neutralizing and UA degrading characteristics for the treatment of gout and hyperuricemia with high efficacy and *** nanoenzyme was fabricated by encapsulating uricase(UOx)and catalase(CAT)into zeolitic imidazolate framework-8(ZIF-8)and further coating it with *** NM-coated nanoenzyme inherits the antigenic exterior and cell membrane functions of neutrophils for inflammation targeting and cytokine *** and CAT encapsulated in ZIF-8 could efficiently degrade UA and eliminate hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2))via a biocatalytic cascade,thus successfully blocking the inflammation amplification during gout *** in vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated the preferable potentials of the nanoenzyme for gout targeting,inflammation elimination and UA degradation,exhibiting great promise for the treatment of gout and hyperuricemia in an effective and safe manner.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is the fifth most common malignancy and the second leading cause of cancer mortality *** cornerstone to improving the prognosis of HCC patients has been the control of loco-regional disease progression and the lesser toxicities of local *** radiotherapy has not been considered a preferred treatment modality for HCC,charged particle therapy(CPT),including proton beam therapy(PBT)and carbon ion radiotherapy(CIRT),possesses advantages(for example,it allows ablative radiation doses to be applied to tumors but simultaneously spares the normal liver parenchyma from radiation)and has emerged as an alternative treatment option for *** the technological advancements in CPT,various radiation dosages of CPT have been used for HCC treatment via ***,the efficacy and safety of the evolving dosages remain *** assess the association between locoregional control of HCC and the dose and regimen of CPT,we provide a brief overview of selected literature on dose regimens from conventional to hypofractionated short-course CPT in the treatment of HCC and the subsequent determinants of clinical ***,CPT provides a better local control rate compared with photon beam therapy,ranging from 80%to 96%,and a 3-year overall survival ranging from 50%to 75%,and it results in rare grade 3 toxicities of the late gastrointestinal tract(including radiation-induced liver disease).Regarding CPT for the treatment of locoregional HCC,conventional CPT is preferred to treat central tumors of HCC to avoid late toxicities of the biliary *** contrast,the hypo-fractionation regimen of CPT is suggested for treatment of larger-sized tumors of HCC to overcome potential radio-resistance.

Sand wave migration near the southeastern corner of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, USA

Sand waves of approximately 2 m in height were observed to migrate nearly 40 m with counterclockwise rotation between two bathymetric surveys performed three months apart near the southeastern corner of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. The region is characterized by strong tidal currents, intermittent energetic surface wave events, and shallow water with local depth ranging from 2 to 7 m. This study uses the process-based model, Delft3D, with a three-dimensional approach to examine the sand wave dynamics by incorporating surface waves, winds, currents, and bathymetric observations. The model successfully simulates sand wave migration in comparisons to observations. Model sensitivity analyses show that the sand wave migration reduces by 65% with the absence of the surface waves. The modeled sand wave migration speed is correlated with the tidal current Shields parameter, and sharp increases in migration speed occur when the wave-driven Shields parameter increases in response to energetic surface wave events. The combined effect of tides, surface waves, and bathymetry is the origin of the rotational aspect of the sand wave, using the Shields parameter as an indicator of tidal currents and surface wave influence on sand wave dynamics.

An atmospheric-pressure air plasma is employed to treat C6 glioma cells in vitro. To elucidate on the mechanism causing cell death and role of reactive species （RS） in the medium produced by the plasma, the concentration of the long-lived RS such as hydrogen peroxide, nitrate, and ozone in the plasma-treated liquid （phosphate-buffered saline solution） is measured. When vitamin C is added to the medium as a ROS quencher, the viability of C6 glioma cells after the plasma treatment is different from that without vitamin C. The results demonstrate that reactive oxygen species （ROS） such as H2O2, and O3 constitute the main factors for inactivation of C6 glioma cells and the reactive nitrogen species （RNS） may only play an auxiliary role in cell death.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the clinical effects of modified Dachengqi Tang(DCQT) on promoting gastrointestinal motility in post-operative esophageal cancer ***:Sixty postoperative esophageal cancer patients were enrolled and randomly assigned to the modified treatment group or the control group(30 patients in each group).Patients in the treatment group were given DCQT made from decocted herbs and administered via nasojejunal tube at a dosage of 150 *** motility was assessed by recording time for recovery of bowel sounds,flatus,defecation,and the total amount of gastric drainage during the first three postoperative *** motilin(MTL) and vasoactive intestinal peptide(VIP) were measured one hour before and three days after ***:Compared with the control group,the times to first bowel sound,flatus,and defecation were significantly shorter and there was less gastric drainage in the treatment group(P 0.05).MTL was significantly lower and VIP was higher postoperatively in the control group,compared to before surgery(P < 0.01).CONCLUSION:Modified DCQT effectively improved decreased gastrointestinal motility in postoperative esophageal cancer patients by increasing MTL and reducing VIP.

The decoration of CNTs surface by magnetic nanoparticles was achieved by an ultrasonication-assisted hydrothermal method（UAHM）.The effect of ultrasonication time on the crystal structure,magnetic performance,and chemical composition of the magnetic CNT composite material was determined.X-ray diffraction（XRD）,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy（FTIR）,transmission electron microscopy（TEM）,and vibrating sample magnetometry were used to characterize the physical,chemical,and magnetic properties of the *** composites synthesized via the UAHM exhibited superparamagnetic *** ultrasonication time was a critical factor that affected the structure and magnetic performance of the *** simply controlling the ultrasonication time,the crystal phase structure of Fe oxide could be selectively modulated and the magnetic performance of the MCs could be effectively tuned.

Development of a Novel PmpD-N ELISA for Chlamydia psittaci Infection

Objective Chlamydia psittaci is an avian respiratory pathogen and zoonotic agent. The wide prevalence of C. psittaci poses a threat to the poultry industry and its employees. However, few commercial kits are available for detecting avian antibodies excluding the in-house ELISA kit. In this study, we developed a novel ELISA kit for detecting antibodies against C. psittaci based on the N-terminal fragment of polymorphic outer membrane protein D （PmpD-N） as the coating antigen. Methods The antigen concentrations, primary antibody, and cut-off value were determined and optimized. The ELISA, designated PmpD-N ELISA, was assessed for sensitivity, specificity, and concordance using sera samples from 48 experimentally infected and 168 uninfected SPF chickens. Results The sensitivity and specificity of PmpD-N ELISA were 97.9%, 100%, respectively, while the concordance was 98.1% as compared to that of MOMP-ELISA. No cross-reaction with positive sera for other avian pathogens was found. Using PmpD-N ELISA, 799/836 clinical samples were positive, including 93.0% and 98.1% positivity in layers and broilers, respectively. Conclusion These data indicate that indirect ELISA with PmpD-N as the antigen candidate is a promising approach for the surveillance of C. psittaci infection.

A Tailored High-Efficiency Sample Pretreatment Method for Simultaneous Quantification of 10 Classes of Known Endogenous Phytohormones

One of the hottest topics in plant hormone biology is the crosstalk mechanisms,whereby multiple classes of phytohormones interplay with each other through signaling *** better understand the roles of hormonal crosstalks in their complex regulatory networks,it is of high significance to investigate the spatial and temporal distributions of multiple-phytohormones simultaneously from one plant tissue *** this study,we develop a high-sensitivity and high-throughput method for the simultaneous quantitative analysis of 44 phytohormone compounds,covering currently known 10 major classes of phytohormones(strigolactones,brassinosteroids,gibberellins,auxin,abscisic acid,jasmonic acid,salicylic acid,cytokinins,ethylene,and polypeptide hormones[e.g.,phytosulfokine])from only 100 mg of plant *** compounds were grouped and purified separately with a tailored solid-phase extraction procedure based on their physicochemical properties and then analyzed by LC–MS/*** recoveries of our method ranged from 49.6%to 99.9%and the matrix effects from 61.8%to 102.5%,indicating that the overall sample pretreatment design resulted in good *** limits of quantitation(LOQs)of our method ranged from 0.06 to 1.29 pg/100 mg fresh weight and its precision was less than 13.4%,indicating high sensitivity and good reproducibility of the *** of our method in different plant matrices demonstrated its wide ***,these advantages will make our method helpful in clarifying the crosstalk networks of phytohormones.
