Work-function-induced interfacial electron redistribution of MoO_(2)/WO_(2) heterostructures for high-efficiency electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction

The engineering of the electronic configurations of active sites,together with the production of more accessible active sites through heterostructure design,has been established as a forceful methodology for boosting water electrolysis performance.Herein,a facile approach is developed to fabricate well-dispersed MoO_(2) and WO_(2) nanoparticles with abundant heterointerfaces entrapped in N,P-doped carbon nanofibers(referred to as MoO_(2)/WO_(2)@N,P-CNFs hereafter)as hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)electrocatalysts in alkaline and acidic electrolytes.Extensive spectroscopic analyses and theoretical findings manifest that the heterointerface formed by the work function modulation of MoO_(2)/WO_(2) triggers the spontaneous electron redistribution from MoO_(2)to WO_(2) and a built-in electric field,which is essential to promote water adsorption,optimize the H-intermediate adsorption energy,result in the enhanced charge transfer efficiency,and ultimately increase the intrinsic HER activity.Simultaneously,the intimate confinement of MoO_(2)/WO_(2) heterostructures in the porous carbon substrate can restrain the active sites from unfavorable coarsening and detachment,thus ensuring facilitated HER kinetics and outstanding structural robustness.As a result,MoO_(2)/WO_(2)@N,P-CNFs exhibit superior catalytic HER performance in acidic and basic solutions,requiring 118 and 95 mV overpotentials to achieve 10 mA·cm^(−2),respectively,surpassing a number of reported non-noble metal-based electrocatalysts.This work provides guidelines for the rational design and construction of special metallic heterocomponents with optimized interfacial electronic structure for various electrochemical technologies.

Owing to the unique structure,anode-free lithium metal batteries（AFLMBs） have higher energy density and lower production cost than traditional lithium metal batteries（LMBs） or lithium-ion batteries（LIBs）,However,AFLMBs suffer from an inherently finite Li reservoir and exhibit poor cycle stability,low Coulombic efficiency（CE） and severe dendrite growth.In this work,polydiallyl lithium disulfide（PDS-Li） was successfully synthesized and coated on Cu current collector by electrochemical polymerization.The PDS-Li acts as an additional lithium resource to compensate for the irreversible loss of lithium during cycling.In addition,the special structure and lithiophilicity of PDS-Li contribute to lower nucleation overpotential and uniform lithium deposition.When coupled with Li-rich manganese-based（LRM）cathode of Li1.2Mn0.54Ni0.13Co0.13O2,the anode-free full cell exhibits significantly improved cycle stability over 100 cycles and capacity retention of 63.3% and 57% after 80 and 100 cycles,respectively.We believe that PDS-Li can be used to ensure stable cycling performance and high-energy-density in AFLMBs.

Heavy consumption of fossil fuels has raised concerns over the climate change and energy security in the past decades.In this review,hydrogen economy,as a clean and sustainable energy system,is receiving great attention.The success of future hydrogen economy strongly depends on the storage of renewable energy in hydrogen and hydrogen-rich chemicals through electrolyzers and conversion back to electricity via fuel cells.Electrocatalysts are at the heart of these critical technologies and great efforts have been devoted to preparing highly efficient nanomaterials.High-entropy alloys(HEAs),with their unique structural characteristics and intrinsic properties,have evolved to be one of the most popular catalysts for energy-related applications,especially those associated with hydrogen economy.Herein,recent advances regarding HEAs-based hydrogen economy are comprehensively reviewed.Attention is paid to the discussion of emerged HEAs as a new class of materials in hydrogen energy cycle,carbon-based hydrogen energy cycle,and nitrogen-based hydrogen energy cycle,covering the sustainable electrochemical synthesis of hydrogen and hydrogen-rich fuels and their direct application in fuel cells.Based on this overview,the challenges and promising directions are proposed to guide the development of HEAs research,aiming to achieve significant progress for further accessing hydrogen economy.

Unravelling critical role of metal cation engineering in boosting hydrogen evolution reaction activity of molybdenum diselenide

Two-dimensional(2D)transition-metal selenides,espe-cially MoSe_(2),is considered to be an excellent alternative electrocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).However,it still features high overpotential in HER due to the low density of active sites,which limits its practical application.Herein,the hydrogen evolution reaction activity of MoSe_(2)is enhanced by the incorporation of metal-cation,tungsten,which succeeds in taking the place of Mo in the lattice of MoSe_(2),inducing the spacing expansion and bringing new flexural edges to serve as active sites.In addition,the incorporated metal also facil-itates electron transport from Mo active center toward W and Se atoms with auspicious hydrogen adsorption prop-erties.

Realizing high performance of solid-state lithium metal batteries by flexible ceramic/polymer hybrid solid electrolyte

Ceramic electrolytes(CEs)and solid polymer electrolytes(SPEs)are considered to be effective methods to suppress the growth of lithium dendrites.But the inferior wettability of CEs and the low ionic conductivity of SPEs limit their applications.Zhang and colleagues report in Advanced Materials that flexible ceramic/polymer hybrid solid electrolyte—prepared by in situ coupling reaction—has great promise for high-performance Li metal batteries(LMBs).Ultrahigh energy density of LMBs is catching worldwide attention,which are 2 to 6 times higher than that of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)[1].

Comprehensive understanding of the thriving electrocatalytic nitrate/nitrite reduction to ammonia under ambient conditions

Ammonia(NH_(3))is a multifunctional compound that is an important feedstock for the agricultural and pharmaceutical industries and attractive energy storage medium.At present,NH_(3)synthesis is highly dependent on the conventional Haber–Bosch process that operates under harsh conditions,which consumes large quantities of fossil fuels and releases a large amount of carbon dioxide.As an alternative,electrosynthesis is a prospective method for producing NH_(3)under normal temperature and pressure conditions.Although electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction to ammonia has attracted considerable attentions,the low solubility of N_(2)and high N≡N cracking energy render the achievements of high NH_(3) yield rate and Faradaic efficiency difficult.Nitrate and nitrite(NO_(x)^(-))are common N-containing pollutants.Due to their high solubilities and low dissociation energy of N=O,NO_(x)^(-)−are ideal raw materials for NH_(3) production.Therefore,electrocatalytic NO_(x)^(-)−reduction to NH_(3)(eNO_(x)RR)is a prospective strategy to simultaneously realise environmental protection and NH_(3) synthesis.This review offers a comprehensive understanding of the thriving eNO_(x)RR under ambient conditions.At first,the popular theory and mechanism of eNO_(x)RR and a summary of the measurement system and evaluation criteria are introduced.Thereafter,various strategies for developing NO_(x)−reduction catalysts are systematically presented and discussed.Finally,the challenges and possible prospects of electrocatalytic NO_(x)^(-1) reduction are outlined to facilitate energy-saving and environmentally friendly large-scale synthesis of NH_(3) in the future.

Preparation and characterization of Fe_2O_3-CeO_2-TiO_2/γ-Al_2O_3 catalyst for degradation dye wastewater

In order to develop a catalyst with high activity for catalytic wet oxidation （CWO） process at room temperature and atmospheric pressure, Fe2O3-CeO2-TiO2/γ-Al2O3 catalyst was prepared by consecutive impregnation method and the prepared parameters were optimized. The structure of the catalyst was characterized by BET, XRF, SEM and XPS technologies, and the actual wastewater was used to investigate the catalytic activity of Fe2O3-CeO2-TiO2/γ-Al2O3 in CWO process. The experimental results showed that the prepared catalyst exhibited good catalytic activity when the doping amount of Ti was 1.0 wt% （the weight ratio of Ti to carriers）, and the middle product, Fe2O3-CeO2-TiO2/γ-Al2O3, was calcined in 450℃ for 2 h. The CWO experiment for treating actual dye wastewater indicated that the COD, color and TOC of actual wastewater were decreased by 62.23%, 50.12% and 41.26% in 3 h, respectively, and the ratio of BOD5/COD was increased from 0.19 to 0.30.

Adaptive admittance tracking control for interactive robot with prescribed performance

An adaptive control approach is presented in this paper for tracking desired trajectories in interactive manipulators. The controller design incorporates prescribed performance functions (PPFs) to improve dynamic performance. Notably, the performance of the output error is confined in an envelope characterized by exponential convergence, leading to convergence to zero. This feature ensures a prompt response from admittance control and establishes a reliable safety framework for interactions. Simulation results provide practical insights,demonstrating the viability of the control scheme proposed in this paper.

Osteoblasts are essential in the maintenance of human bone homeostasis.1 The abnormal formation and impaired differentiation ability of osteoblasts are pivotal factors leading to bone-related diseases,suggesting that an indepth study of osteoblasts can provide novel treatment strategies for these diseases.2 Human primary osteoblasts are precious experimental models in bone-related research.3 However,the isolation and culture of human primary osteoblasts still have some difficulties and limitations.Here,we refined a method to isolate and culture human primary osteoblasts by taking cancellous bone through a bone tissue sampler and pre-digesting it with pancreatin,which makes the process easier,cheaper,and more efficient.Furthermore,we compared the effects of the subtle changes in isolation and culture methods on the phenotype of human primary osteoblasts and examined the differences in morphology,proliferation,and differentiation between micro-explants cultured osteoblasts(MECOBs)and explants cultured osteoblasts(EC-OBs).

Synthesis and characteristics of transparent Gd_(2)O_(3)ceramics with cubic structure

Transparent Gd_(2)O_(3)ceramics with a cubic crystal structure were successfully synthesized for the first time.The Gd_(2)O_(3)ceramics subjected to hot isostatic press(HIP)at 1070℃consisted of uniform grains of 2-3μm,and only a few residual pores could be detected inside the materials.X-ray diffraction(XRD)shows that the obtained polycrystalline materials have a cubic crystal structure,and the transmission polarized light observation shows that there is no birefringence inside the materials,indicating inherent optical properties of the cubic crystal structure.The optical absorption edge is 640 nm(optical band gap:2.1 eV),and the transmittance in the visible to near-infrared region is 72%,which is close to the theoretical transmittance calculated from Fresnel loss.Verdet constant of this material is almost wavelength-independent,and it is diamagnetic since it has the opposite polarity to that of common paramagnetic materials.
