Advanced driver assistance sy.tems(ADAS) seek to provide drivers and passengers of automotive vehicles increased safety.and comfort. Original equipment manufacturers are integrating and developing sy.tems for distance keeping, lane keeping and changing and other functionalities. The modern automobile is a complex sy.tem of sy.tems. How the functionalities of advanced driver assistance are implemented and coordinated across the sy.tems of the vehicle is generally.not made available to the wider research community.by.the developers and manufactures. This paper seeks to begin filling this gap by.assembling open source phy.ics models of the vehicle dy.amics and ADAS command models. Additionally. in order to facilitate ADAS development and testing without having access to the details of ADAS, a coordinated control architecture for motion management is also proposed for distributing ADAS motion control commands over vehicle sy.tems. The architecture is demonstrated in a case study.where motion is coordinated between the steering and the braking sy.tems, which are ty.ically.used only.for a single functionality. The integrated vehicle and sy.tem dy.amics using the coordinated control architecture are simulated for various driving tasks. It is seen that improved trajectory.following can be achieved by.the proposed coordinated control architecture. The models, simulations and control architecture are made available for open access.

The microbial sulfur removal was investigated on high sulfur content (1.9%) coal concentrate from Tabas coal preparation plant. A mixed culture of ferrooxidans microorganisms was isolated from the tailing dam of the plant. Full factorial method was used to design laboratory.test and to evaluate the effects of pH, particle size, iron sulfate concentration, pulp density. and bioleaching time on sulfur reduction. Statistical analy.es of experimental data were considered and showed increases of pH and particle size had negative effects on sulfur reduction, whereas increases of pulp density.and bioleaching time raised microbial desulfurization rate. According to results of designing, and regarding statistical factors, the optimum values for maximum sulfur reduction were obtained; pH (1.5), particle size (-180 μm), iron sulfate concentration (2.7 mmol/L), pulp density.(10%) and bioleaching time (14 d), which leaded to 51.5% reduction from the total sulfur of sample.

In 2011, the University.of Pittsburgh School of Medicine(UPSOM) and Tsinghua University.formed a partnership to further the education of Tsinghua medical students. These students come to UPSOM as visiting research scholars for two y.ars of their eight-y.ar MD curriculum. During this time, the students, who have completed four y.ars at Tsinghua, work full-time in medical school laboratories and research programs of their choice, essentially.functioning as graduate students. In their first two months in Pittsburgh, the scholars have a one-week orientation to biomedical research, followed by.two-week rotations in four labs selected on the basis of the scholars' scientific interests, after which they.choose one of these labs for the remainder of the two *** labs may.be in basic science departments, basic science divisions of clinical departments, or specialized centers that focus on approaches like simulation and modeling. The Tsinghua students also have a brief exposure to clinical medicine. UPSOM has also formed a similar partnership with Central South University.Xiangy. School of Medicine in Changsha, Hunan Province. The Xiangy. students come to UPSOM for two y.ars of research training after their sixth y.ar and, thus, unlike the Tsinghua students,have already.completed their clinical rotations. UPSOM faculty.members have also paved the way.for UPMC(University.of Pittsburgh Medical Center), UPSOM's clinical partner, to engage with clinical centers in China. Major relationships involving advisory. training, managerial, and/or equity.roles exist with Xiangy. International Medical Center, KingMeD Diagnostics, First Chengmei Medical Industry.Group, and Macare Women's Hospital. Both UPSOM and UPMC are actively.exploring other clinical and academic opportunities in China.

Meiosis is the specialized eukary.tic cell division that permits the halving of ploidy.necessary.for game- togenesis in sexually.reproducing organisms, This involves a single round of DNA replication followed by.two successive divisions. To ensure balanced segregation, homologous chromosome pairs must migrate to opposite poles at the first meiotic division and this means that they.must recognize and pair with each other beforehand. Although understanding of the mechanisms by.which meiotic chromosomes find and pair with their homologs has greatly.advanced, it remains far from being fully.understood. With some notable exceptions such as male Drosophila, the recognition and phy.ical link- age of homologs at the first meiotic division involves homologous recombination. However, in addition to this, it is clear that many.organisms, including plants, have also evolved a series of recombination-independent mechanisms to facili- tate homolog recognition and pairing. These implicate chromosome structure and dy.amics, telomeres, centromeres, and, most recently. small RNAs. With a particular focus on plants, we present here an overview of understanding of these early. recombination-independent events that act in the pairing of homologous chromosomes during the first meiotic division,
