Self-adaptive gas flow and phase change behaviors during hydrate exploitation by alternate injection of N_(2) and CO_(2)

Since hydrate resources play a part of the stratigraphic framework structure in sediments,establishing a safe and economic method for hydrates exploitation remains the primary challenge to this *** the proposed methods,the spontaneous displacement of CH_(4) from hydrate cages by CO_(2) seems to be a perfect mechanism to address gas production and CO_(2) storage,especially in today's strong demand for carbon reduction and replacing clean *** extensive lab researches,in the past decade,injecting a mixture of CO_(2) and small molecule gas has become a key means to enhance displacement efficiency and has great potential for ***,there is a lack of in-depth research on gas flow in the reservoir,while the injected gas always passes through low-saturated hydrate areas with high permeability and then occurs gas channel in a short term,finally resulting in the decreases in gas production efficiency and produced gas ***,we explored a new injection-production mode of alternate injection of N2 and CO_(2) in order to fully coordinate the advantages of N_(2) in enhanced hydrate decomposition and CO_(2) in solid storage and heat *** alternate"taking"and"storing"processes perfectly repair the problem of the gas channel,achieving self-regulation effect of CH_(4) recovery and CO_(2) *** 3-D experimental results show that compared to the mixed gas injection,CH_(4) recovery is increased by>50%and CO_(2) storage is increased by>70%.Additionally,this alternate injection mode presented a better performance in CH_(4) concentration of produced gas and showed outstanding N_(2) utilization ***,we analyzed its self-adaptive gas flow mechanism and proposed an application model of"one injection and multiple production".We look forward to this study accelerating the application of CO_(2)-CH_(4) replacement technology.

Acoustic characterization of hydrate formation and decomposition in clay-bearing sediments

Understanding the acoustic characteristics of hydrates in various sediments is crucial for hydrate resource detection and safe and efficient exploitation, as hydrate occurrence patterns vary greatly in different sediments. In this work, sediments with different bentonite contents, water saturations, and types were prepared to investigate the characteristics of P-wave velocity(reflecting the magnitude of hydrate saturation in the sediment) and amplitude(reflecting the degree of hydrate-sediment cementation) during hydrate formation and depressurization. During hydrate formation, the P-wave velocity and amplitude have similar trends. As clay content increases, the P-wave velocity increase rates quickened. On the other hand, the increased rate of P-wave velocity slows down with the increase of water saturation in the clay-bearing sediments. Comparing various types of sediment shows that the water absorption and swelling of bentonite reduce the pore space, speeding up the cementation of the hydrate with the sediment and increasing P-wave velocity at a faster rate. Correspondence between P-wave velocity and hydrate saturation is strongly related to sediment type, clay content, and water *** rapidly decreasing amplitude in the early stage of hydrate depressurization indicates that hydrate in clay-bearing sediments is weakly cemented to the sediments, which is prone to stratigraphic *** findings of this study offer guidance for hydrate resource assessments in clay-bearing sediments as well as geologic risk estimations during hydrate mining.

Hydrate formation from liquid CO_(2) in a glass beads bed

CO_(2)sequestration in marine sediments as solid hydrates is a potential way to capture and store anthropogenic CO_(2).In this study,hydrate formation from liquid CO_(2)in marine sediments was simulated in a glass beads bed,and the factors affecting the kinetics of hydrate formation were *** results indicated that the rapid initial hydrate formation with a high driving force always increases the mass transfer resistance,which slows down hydrate *** final ratio of water conversion is higher under conditions of low temperature and higher pressure.A smaller particle size is conductive to initial CO_(2)hydrate growth,but the water conversion ratio in a bed with larger particles is slightly *** with other factors,the change in water saturation has an obvious effect on the final water *** inhibit the initial hydrate formation during the injection process,in this paper,a kinetic inhibitor is proposed for pre-injection into marine *** work shows that at a low pressure,a lowconcentration inhibitor has an obvious inhibition effect on hydrate ***,at a high pressure,it is necessary to increase the concentration of inhibitor to produce an obvious inhibition effect.

Primary slag formation behavior during reduction process of SFCA-I and SFCA

Because the formation behavior of primary slag which decomposed from complex calcium ferrite(SFCA-I and SFCA)is not quite clear,the migration behavior of CaO and Al_(2)O_(3) derived from high basicity or high alumina sinter is always worth *** reducibility of three representative sinter samples and the formation behavior of primary slag during reduction process were investigated via X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,and energy-dispersive spectroscopy *** results show that the reducibility of high basicity sinter is superior to that of high alumina *** with poor reducibility like hercynite and brownmillerite and with large-grained particles like free alumina and silica form in sinters with basicity of 2.4 and Al_(2)O_(3) content of 4 wt.%,*** appearance of these minerals can well explain the reduction stagnation phenomenon occurring in these sinter *** migration behavior of CaO and Al_(2)O_(3) during slag formation process is *** can easily combine with SiO2 to form silicate phase or firstly form calcium-rich ferro-aluminate solid solution and then transform to silicate phase,while Al_(2)O_(3) firstly combines with CaO and FeO to form solid solution and then,gradually combines with SiO2 to form calcium aluminum silicate phase.

A Novel β-1,4-N, 6-O-Diacetylmuramidase from Streptomyces griseus and its Chemical Modification

A novel lysozyme named β-1, 4-N, 6-O-diacetylmuramidase R2 was purified and characterized from Streptomyces griseus. The molecular weight of the enzyme was determined by MALDI-TOF-MS as 23.5 kDa. The N-terminal amino acid sequence was DTSGVQGIDVSHWQG. Chemical modification of β-1, 4-N, 6-O-diacetylmuramidase R2 indicated that sulfhydryl group and carbamidine of arginine residues are not essential for the activity of the enzyme, but lysine residues and imidazole of histidine residues are essential for the activity. The number of essential tryptophan and carboxyl groups was found that only one tryptophan residue and three carboxyl groups in the active site.

Influences of pore fluid on gas production from hydrate-bearing reservoir by depressurization

In addition to the temperature and pressure conditions,the pore fluid composition and migration behavior are also crucial to control hydrate decomposition in the exploitation *** this work,to investigate the effects of these factors,a series of depressurization experiments were carried out in a visible one-dimensional reactor,using hydrate reservoir samples with water saturations ranging from 20%to 65%.The results showed a linear relationship between gas production rates and gas saturations of the reservoir,suggesting that a larger gas-phase space was conducive to hydrate decomposition and gas ***,the rapid water production in the early stage of hydrate exploitation could release more gas-phase space in the water-rich reservoir,which in turn improved the gas production ***,the spatiotemporal evolution of pore fluids could lead to partial accelerated decomposition or secondary formation of *** the unsealed reservoir,the peripheral water infiltration kept reservoir at a high water saturation,which hindered the overall production process and caused higher water ***,depressurization assisted with the N2 sweep could displace the pore water *** to the results,it is recommended that using the short-term N2 sweep as an auxiliary means in the early stage of depressurization to expand the gas-phase space in order to achieve the highest production efficiency.

Optimal activated carbon for separation of CO_2 from(H_2 + CO_2) gas mixture

Seven types of activated carbon were used to investigate the effect of their structure on separation of CO2 from（H2 ＋ CO2） gas mixture by the adsorption method at ambient temperature and higher pressures. The results showed that the limiting factors for separation of CO2 from 53.6 mol% H2 ＋ 46.4 mol% CO2 mixture and from 85.1 mol% H2 ＋ 14.9 mol% CO2 mixture were different at 20 °C and about 2 MPa. The best separation result could be achieved when the pore diameter of the activated carbon ranged from 0.77 to 1.20 nm, and the median particle size was about2.07 lm for 53.6 mol% H2 ＋ 46.4 mol% CO2 mixture and 1.41 lm for 85.1 mol% H2 ＋ 14.9 mol% CO2 mixture. The effect of specific area and pore diameter of activated carbon on separation CO2 from 53.6 mol% H2 ＋ 46.4 mol% CO2 mixture was more significant than that from 85.1 mol% H2 ＋ 14.9 mol% CO2 mixture. CO2 in the gas phase can be decreased from 46.4 mol% to 2.3 mol%–4.3 mol% with a two-stage separation process.

Persistent Variations in the East Asian Trough from March to April and the Possible Mechanism

The East Asian trough(EAT)profoundly influences the East Asian spring *** this study,the relationship of the EATs among the three spring months is *** analysis shows that the variation in March EAT is closely related to that of April *** empirical orthogonal function(EEOF)analysis also confirms the co-variation of the March and April *** positive/negative EEOF1 features the persistent strengthened/weakened EAT from March to *** investigation indicates that the variations in EEOF1 are related to a dipole sea surface temperature(SST)pattern over the North Atlantic and the SST anomaly over the tropical Indian *** dipole SST pattern over the North Atlantic,with one center east of Newfoundland Island and another east of Bermuda,could trigger a Rossby wave train to influence the EAT in March−*** SST anomaly over the tropical Indian Ocean can change the Walker circulation and influence the atmospheric circulation over the tropical western Pacific,subsequently impacting the southern part of the EAT in March−*** the SST factors,the Northeast Asian snow cover could change the regional thermal conditions and lead to persistent EAT anomalies from March to *** three impact factors are generally independent of each other,jointly explaining large variations in the EAT ***,the signals of the three factors could be traced back to February,consequently providing a potential prediction source for the EAT variation in March and April.

Implications for fault reactivation and seismicity induced by hydraulic fracturing

Evaluating the physical mechanisms that link hydraulic fracturing(HF) operations to induced earthquakes and the anticipated form of the resulting events is significant in informing subsurface fluid injection operations. Current understanding supports the overriding role of the effective stress magnitude in triggering earthquakes, while the impact of change rate of effective stress has not been systematically addressed. In this work, a modified critical stiffness was brought up to investigate the likelihood, impact,and mitigation of induced seismicity during and after hydraulic fracturing by developing a poroelastic model based on rate-and-state fraction law and linear stability analysis. In the new criterion, the change rate of effective stress was considered a key variable to explore the evolution of this criterion and hence the likelihood of instability slip of fault. A coupled fluid flow-deformation model was used to represent the entire hydraulic fracturing process in COMSOL Multiphysics. The possibility of triggering an earthquake throughout the entire hydraulic fracturing process, from fracturing to cessation, was investigated considering different fault locations, orientations, and positions along the fault. The competition between the effects of the magnitude and change rate of effective stress was notable at each fracturing stage. The effective stress magnitude is a significant controlling factor during fracturing events, with the change rate dominating when fracturing is suddenly started or stopped. Instability dominates when the magnitude of the effective stress increases(constant injection at each fracturing stage) and the change rate of effective stress decreases(the injection process is suddenly stopped). Fracturing with a high injection rate, a fault adjacent to the hydraulic fracturing location and the position of the junction between the reservoir and fault are important to reduce the Coulomb failure stress(CFS) and enhance the critical stiffness as
