Immobilisation of electrochemically active bacteria on screen-printed electrodes for rapid in situ toxicity biosensing

The Kuril islands constitute a volcanic island arc-trench system, stretching from eastern Hokkaido （Japan） to Kamchatka （Russia） along the northwestern Pacific subduction system, The current arc consists of several volcanic islands mainly with neogene basement and capped by several, predominantly andesitic, active subduction stratovolcanoes, Kunashir Island is the southwestern-most island of the arc, just off the Hokkaido coast and represents the study area in this paper. The island is composed of a Lower Complex of mainly late Miocene to Pliocene volcanic rocks, covered by an Upper Complex of younger （basaltic） andesitic lava flows and tuffs on which currently four active volcanic edifices are built. In the Lower Complex sub-volcanic and deeper-seated intrusives of the so-called Prasolov and Dokuchaev magmatic complexes are found, More differentiated, tonalitic-granodioritic rocks were collected from these small intrusive bodies. An early Oligocene zircon LA-ICP-MS U/Pb age of 31 Ma for the Prasolov Complex was obtained, showing that the basement of Kunashir Island is older than previously thought. Thermochronometry （apatite fission-track and U-Th-Sm/He and zircon U-ThJHe analyses） further shows that the magmatic basement of the island was rapidly exhumed in the Pleistocene to present levels in a differential pattern, with He-ages ranging from 1.9 to 0.8 Ma. It is shown that the northern section of the island was hereby exhumed more intensely.

Hepatitis B and D viruses replication interference: Influence of hepatitis B genotype

AIM: To study the hepatitis B virus(HBV) and hepatitis D virus(HDV) replication interferences in patients with chronic hepatitis delta infected with different HBV ***: We conducted a transversal study including 68 chronic hepatitis delta(CHD)(37 HIVpositive) patients and a control group of 49 chronic hepatitis B(CHB)(22 HIV-positive) patients. In addition, a dynamic follow-up was performed in 16 CHD patients. In all the samples, the surface antigen of hepatitis B(HBs Ag) serum titers were analyzed with the Monolisa HBs Ag Ultra system(Bio-Rad), using as quantification standard a serial dilution curve of an international HBs Ag standard. Serum HBV-DnA titers were analyzed using the Roche Cobas Taq Man(Roche, Barcelona, Spain), and the serum HDV-RnA using an in-house real-time q RT-PCR method, with Taq Man probes. HBV genotype was determined with the line immunoassay Li PA HBV genotyping system(Innogenetics, ghent, Belgium). In those patients negative for Li PA assay, a nested PCR method of complete HBs Ag coding region, followed by sequence analysis was ***: no differences in the HBV-DnA levels were found in CHB patients infected with different HBV genotypes. However, in CHD patients the HBV-DnA levels were lower in those infected with HBV-A than in those with HBV-D, both in HIV negative [median(IQR): 1.25(1.00-1.35) vs 2.95(2.07-3.93) log10(copies/m L), P = 0.013] and HIV positive patients [2.63(1.24-2.69) vs 7.25(4.61-7.55) log10(copies/m L), P nfirmed in the dynamic study of the HBV/HDV patients. These differences induce an under-estimation of HBV-A incidence in patients with CHD analyzed with Li PA assay. Finally, the HBs Ag titers reflected no significant differences in CHD patients infected with HBV-A or ***: Viral replication interference between HBV and HDV is HBV-genotype dependent, and more evident in patients infected with HBV-genotype A, than with HBV-D or E.

In 2010,a major scientific milestone was achieved for tree fruit crops:publication of the first draft whole genome sequence(WGS)for apple(Malus domestica).This WGS,v1.0,was valuable as the initial reference for sequence information,fine mapping,gene discovery,variant discovery,and tool development.A new,high quality apple WGS,GDDH13 v1.1,was released in 2017 and now serves as the reference genome for *** the past decade,these apple WGSs have had an enormous impact on our understanding of apple biological functioning,trait physiology and inheritance,leading to practical applications for improving this highly valued *** gene identities for phenotypes of fundamental and practical interest can today be discovered much more ***-wide polymorphisms at high genetic resolution are screened efficiently over hundreds to thousands of individuals with new insights into genetic relationships and ***-density genetic maps are constructed efficiently and quantitative trait loci for valuable traits are readily associated with positional candidate genes and/or converted into diagnostic tests for *** understand the species,geographical,and genomic origins of domesticated apple more precisely,as well as its relationship to wild *** WGS has turbo-charged application of these classical research steps to crop improvement and drives innovative methods to achieve more durable,environmentally sound,productive,and consumer-desirable apple *** review includes examples of basic and practical breakthroughs and challenges in using the apple *** for“what’s next”focus on necessary upgrades to the genome sequence data pool,as well as for use of the data,to reach new frontiers in genomics-based scientific understanding of apple.

Effect of a nutrition Education Intervention on Food Safety Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices of Mothers of Children under 5 Years in the Peri-Urban Areas of Bobo-Dioulasso: Before and after Study

Background: This study assessed the effect of a nutrition education intervention. This intervention aimed to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of mothers on food safety in the peri-urban areas of Bobo-Dioulasso in Burkina Faso. Methods: A total of 243 mothers of children under 5 years in the peri-urban of Bobo-Dioulasso were administered the FAO questionnaire for food safety knowledge, attitudes, and practices assessment during two cross-sectional surveys, before and after the intervention, in January and October 2017. The intervention included two components consisting of a theoretical phase (counselling and discussion) and cooking demonstrations implemented for ten months. To account for the before-and-after design of the study, the Mcnemar’s test was used to assess the effect of the intervention on food safety KAP of mothers of children under 5 years. Results: The mean age of mothers was 29 ± 6.2 years and 50.6% of them were between 20 and 29 years old. One for knowledge (cooking thoroughly with, p-value = 0.0001) and another for attitudes (perceived benefits of reheating leftovers before eating them, p-value = 0.0001), significantly increased after the intervention. In terms of food safety practices, all the indicators (cleaning of dirty surfaces, plates and utensils and storage of perishable foods) significantly increased (all p = 0.0001 Conclusion: This study provided some evidence of an effective nutrition education intervention for improving maternal KAP on food safety for their child’s feeding.

The application of machine learning models to predict material properties is determined by the availability of high-quality *** present an expert-curated dataset of lithium ion conductors and associated lithium ion conductivities measured by *** *** dataset has 820 entries collected from 214 sources;entries contain a chemical composition,an expert-assigned structural label,and ionic conductivity at a specific temperature(from 5 to 873°C).There are 403 unique chemical compositions with an associated ionic conductivity near room temperature(15–35°C).The materials contained in this dataset are placed in the context of compounds reported in the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database with unsupervised machine learning and the Element Movers *** dataset is used to train a Crabnet-based classifier to estimate whether a chemical composition has high or low ionic *** classifier is a practical tool to aid experimentalists in prioritizing candidates for further investigation as lithium ion conductors.
