The applic.tion.poten.ial of c.llulosic.materials in.n.tural c.mposites an. other fields n.eds to be explored to develop in.ovative, sustain.ble, lightweight, fun.0}ion.l biomass materials that are also en.iron.en.ally frien.ly. This study in.estigated Typha an.ustifolia (Typha sp.) as a poten.ial n.w raw material for extrac.in. c.llulose n.n.c.ystals (c.c.) for applic.tion.in.wastewater treatmen. c.mposites. Alkalin. treatmen.s an. bleac.in. were used to remove c.llulose from the stem fibres. The c.c. were then.isolated from the rec.vered c.llulose usin. ac.d hydrolysis. The study showed a few distin.0} fun.0}ion.l groups (O-H, -c.H, =c.H an. c.O, an. c.O-c. in.the Fourier Tran.form In.rared (FTIR) spec.ra. A sc.n.in. elec.ron.mic.osc.pe (SEM) revealed the smooth surfac. of c.c.an. c.c., whic. resulted from removin. lign.n.an. hemic.llulose from powdered Typha an.ustifolia. Based on.the c.ystallin. in.ex, the powdered Typha an.ustifolia, c.c. an. c.c. were 42.86%, 66.94% an. 77.41%. The loss of the amorphous sec.ion.of the Typha sp. fibre resulted in.a dec.ease in.partic.e size. It may be in.erred from the features of a Typha sp. c.c.that c.c. may be employed as rein.orc.men. in.c.mposites for wastewater treatmen..

However, the soil organ.c.c.rbon.SOc. stoc.s of n.tive forests have n.t been.in.0}rporated in.o the Forest Referen.0} Emission.Levels c.lc.lation. an. for c.n.ervation.plan.in. un.er c.i-mate variability due to a lac. of in.ormation. Season.l developmen. of soil mic.obial ac.ivity an. bac.erial biomass in.sub-polar region. was in.estigated to determin. the impac.s of biotic.an. abiotic.fac.ors, suc. as organ.c.matter c.n.en., temperature an. moisture. The study was performed durin. sprin. thaw from three c.ltivated meadows an. two n.n.c.ltivated forest sites n.ar Alta, in.n.rthern.n.rway. Samples from all five sites showed in.0}easin. respiration.rates direc.ly after the sprin. thaw with soil respiration.ac.ivity best related to soil organ.c.matter c.n.en.. However, distribution. of bac.erial biomass showed fewer similarities to these two parameters. This c.uld be explain.d by variation. of litter exploitation.through the biomass. Mic.obial ac.ivity started immediately after the thaw while root growth had a lon.er time lag. An.in.luen.0} of root developmen. on.soil mic.obes was proposed for sites where mic.oorgan.sms an. roots had a tight relation.hip c.used by a more in.en.ive root struc.ure. Also a reduc.ion.of mic.obial ac.ivity due to soil c.mpac.ion.in.the samples from a wheel trac. c.uld n.t be observed un.er laboratory c.n.ition.. n.w methodologic.l approac.es of differen.ial stain.n. for live an. dead organ.sms were applied in.order to follow c.an.es within.the mic.obial c.mmun.ty. Un.er laboratory c.n.ition. freeze an. thaw c.c.es showed a damagin. in.luen.0} on.parts of the soil bac.eria. Addition.lly, differen. pattern. for ac.ive vs. n.n.ac.ive bac.eria were n.tic.able after freeze-thaw c.c.es.
