The number of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) whole genomic sequences in public nucleotide databases (GenBank, EMBL, and DDBJ) had reached 866 by January 1, 2007. Coming from 46 countries and regions, these sequences were categorized as eight genotypes (A–H). With the statistical and phylogenetic analysis on all available complete genomic data of HBV, we here present an overview of HBV sequences in public databases. From all registered 229 HBV genomes in Chinese regions as well as 59 sequencing data from our research group, we report the establishment of reference sequences of HBV strains prevailing in China. These analyses provide clues for the effects of HBV genotypes in host clinical progressions, geographic distribution of the infection, and the viral evolutionary history. Moreover, the viral sequence reference would be helpful in the identiffcation of various HBV mutations. Based on the analysis of various public databases, we suggest that the Chinese HBV database with the clinical information should be constructed.

This study was designed to investigate the effects of α-synuclein on toxicity induced by long-term exposure to relatively low concentrations of *** with the control groups,the inhibition of cell viability which overexpressed α-synuclein(SH-SY5Y-Syn) improved after 1 and 2 weeks of rotenone *** complex I activity was greater and the mitochondrial membrane swelling intensity was reduced after 1 and 2 weeks of treatment,which indicated that α-synuclein,at least in part,resists the rotenone-induced oxidative *** results indicate that α-synuclein has a dual effect on toxicity of rotenone according to exposure time in human SH-SY5Y cells.

X-ray phase-contrast imaging (PCI) is a new emerging imaging technique that generates a high spatial resolution and high contrast of biological soft tissues compared to conventional radiography. Herein a biomedical application of diffraction enhanced imaging (DEI) is presented. As one of the PCI methods, DEI derives contrast from many different kinds of sample information, such as the sample’s X-ray absorption, refraction gradient and ultra-small-angle X-ray scattering (USAXS) properties, and the sample information is expressed by three parametric images. Combinedwith computed tomography (CT), DEI-CT can produce 3D volumetric images of the sample and can be used for investigating micro-structures of biomedical samples. Our DEI experiments for liver samples were implemented at the topography station of beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF). The results show that by using our provided information extraction method and DEI-CT reconstruction approach, the obtained parametric images clearly display the inner structures of liver tissues and the morphology of blood vessels. Furthermore, the reconstructed 3D view of the liver blood vessels exhibits the micro blood vessels whose minimum diameter is on the order of about tens of microns, much better than its conventional CT reconstruction at a millimeter resolution. In conclusion, both the information extraction method and DEI-CT have the potential for use in biomedical micro-structures analysis.

＜正＞Objective Changes of neurotrophin-3（NT-3）expression in rat red nucleus following complete spinal cord transection have been studied in order to provide the experimental evidences for the mechanisms of regeneration and repair after spinal cord injury and for neurotrophins to treat spinal cord *** Male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 240-260 g were divided into three groups at random:（1）Spinal cord transection group which was randomly subdivided into four subgroups according to the survival time at the day 1,3,7 and 14 d after operation（n=6 for each time point）,in which the spinal cord of rat was transected completely at thoracic level 10-11.（2）Sham operation group（laminectomy only,n=6）.（3）Normal control group（n=6）.The expression of NT-3 in red nucleus was examined by immunohistochemistry and image *** NT-3 immunoreactive cells were found in red nucleus in both control and experimental *** operation,the expression of NT-3 increased gradually and reached the peak at the day 7 in red *** data reveal the profile of NT-3 expression in red nucleus after complete spinal cord transection at thoracic *** The results suggest that the demand of NT-3 increases in red nucleus after spinal cord injury and the increase of endogenous NT-3 may be beneficial for the survival and regeneration of the injured rubrospinal neurons.
