Introduction: Diagnostic alternatives that allow microbial identification in blood, such as molecular biology;have shown utility in neonatal sepsis. Objective: To evaluate the impact of a Light Cycler SeptiFast test (LCSF) on days of hospital stay and the use of newborn (nB) antibiotics with suspected sepsis. Methods: We included nB with LCSF test and blood culture (cases) and nB with only blood culture (controls). We evaluated the days of stay, days of antimicrobial use and number of deaths. Statistic analysis: Descriptive statistics was used. The association between the use of LCSF and variables such as mortality, days of stay, use of antimicrobials, and use of mechanical ventilation was analyzed by odds ratio with 95% CI. Results: We included 20 subjects in the case group and 40 in the control group. 8 (40%) of the cases were positive vs 6 (15%) of the controls in the control group. In the controls, the average days of stay were 65 + 15 vs 35 + 10 days of the cases (p Conclusions: The LCSF test influences the days of hospital stay, but does not impact mortality or the use of antimicrobials.

Livestock grazing has a significant impact on natural grasslands, with approximately one-third of the world's land area dedicated to this industry. Around 20% of global grasslands are highly degraded due to overgrazing, affecting their productivity and conservation capacity. Best practices are required to ensure sustainable livestock production that supports biodiversity. The Intermediate Disturbance Hypothesis (IDH) suggests that environments with moderate levels of disturbance exhibit a higher species diversity. Moderate grazing can reduce the dominance of certain species, thereby enhancing plant diversity. However, concerns arise regarding the increase of exotic and unpalatable species under moderate grazing levels, complicating grassland conservation efforts. The impact of livestock grazing on the functional structure of grasslands depends on factors such as grazing intensity, livestock species, and environmental conditions. Variations in grazing intensity may increase specific and functional diversity under moderate grazing, potentially masking the presence of invasive exotic species. In the Austral Pampas (Pampean phytogeographic province, Buenos Aires, Argentina), grasslands face various pressures from domestic livestock grazing that endanger their integrity if not properly managed. Therefore, our study aims to investigate potential differences in species richness and diversity, functional diversity, exotic plant abundance, and the number and distribution of plant functional groups across varying grazing intensities. The IDH is utilized as a tool to regulate livestock pressure for grassland conservation. Species and functional diversity indices were used to assess the impact of grazing on grassland diversity. Moderate grazing increased species and functional diversity, while intensively grazed or ungrazed areas showed reduced diversity. Introduction: Mild and moderate Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) against Rotavirus has not received much attention when the vaccine is administered regardless of recommended age restriction. Objectives: To describe the behavior of mild and moderate AEFI in immunized subjects against Rotavirus, in who age restriction period had not been considered. Methods: A case-control study in which we included immunized patients with monovalent oral vaccine against rotavirus and divided them into two groups: 1) Infants who received RV1 vaccine without considering the recommended period, and 2) Infants who were vaccinated with the recommended schedule. Results: From the total doses, 143/1894 (7.5%) were administered outside the restriction period. The most frequent AEFIs with the first dose were purpura, polypnea, and rhinorrhea;For the second dose: purpura, bloody stools, irritability and rhinorrhea. Conclusions: This study shows the benefits from vaccination regardless of age restriction are more beneficial compared to the possible risks of AEFI.

Halophytes are an excellent choice for the study of genes conferring salt tolerance to salt-sensitive plants and,they are suitable for reclamation and remediation of saline *** develop an in vitro plant propagation protocol and studies of genes involved with GB and Pro biosynthesis in Suaeda *** buds were used as explants and cultured in different treatments on Murashige and Skoog(MS)medium supplemented with different concentrations and combinations of plant growth *** highest number of multiple shoots was on MS medium containing 1 mg/L Benzyladenine(BA)and/or 2 g/L activated carbon with 5.5±06 shoots per *** identification and expression analysis of genes involved in glycine betaine(GB)biosynthesis were S-adenosyl-methionine synthetase(SAMS),choline monooxygenase(CMO)and betaine alde-hyde dehydrogenase(BADH),and for proline(Pro)was pyrroline 5-carboxylate synthetase(P5CS).These sequences shared 90–95%of identity with others plant homologous in public *** amino acids sequence analysis showed that all these peptides contain some of the conserved motifs of those kinds of *** qRT-PCR analysis revealed a higher expression of SeBADH,SeCMO,and,SeP5CS genes in the roots and leaves from plants collected in the field in contrast with from in vitro ***,the expression level of SeSAMS was higher only in the leaves of plants collected in the field when com-pared to those cultivated in vitro.

AIM: To verify the impairment of the hepatic lipid metabolism in prehepatic portal hypertension. METHODS: The concentrations of free fatty acids, diacylglycerol, triglycerides, and phospholipids were assayed by using D-[U-14C] glucose incorporation in the different lipid fractions and thin-layer chromatography and cholesterol was measured by spectrophotometry, in liver samples of Wistar rats with partial portal vein ligation at short- (1 mo) and long-term (1 year) (i.e. portal hypertensive rats) and the control rats. RESULTS: In the portal hypertensive rats, liver phospholipid synthesis significantly decreased (7.42 ± 0.50 vs 4.70 ± 0.44 nCi/g protein; P nd was associated with an increased synthesis of free fatty acids (2.08 ± 0.14 vs 3.36 ± 0.33 nCi/g protein; P nCi/g protein), triglycerides (2.40 ± 0.30 vs 4.49 ± 0.15 nCi/g protein) and cholesterol (24.28 ± 2.12 vs 57.66 ± 3.26 mg/g protein; P nCLUSIOn: Prehepatic portal hypertension in rats impairs the liver lipid metabolism. This impairment consists in an increase in lipid deposits (triglycerides,diacylglycerol and cholesterol) in the liver, accompanied by a decrease in phospholipid synthesis.

Malate dehydrogenase （MDH） is an enzyme widely distributed among living organisms and is a key protein in the central oxidative pathway. It catalyzes the interconversion between malate and oxaloacetate using nAD＋ or nADP＊ as a cofactor. Surprisingly, this enzyme has been extensively studied in eukaryotes but there are few reports about this enzyme in prokaryotes. It is necessary to review the relevant information to gain a better understanding of the function of this enzyme. Our review of the data generated from studies in bacteria shows much diversity in their molecular properties, including weight, oligomeric states, cofactor and substrate binding affinities, as well as differences in the direction of the enzymatic reaction. Furthermore, due to the importance of its function, the transcription and activity of this enzyme are rigorously regulated. Crystal structures of MDH from different bacterial sources led to the identification of the regions involved in substrate and cofactor binding and the residues important for the dimer-dimer interface. This structural information allows one to make direct modifications to improve the enzyme catalysis by increasing its activity, cofactor binding capacity, substrate specificity, and thermostability. A comparative analysis of the phylogenetic reconstruction of MDH reveals interesting facts about its evolutionary history, dividing this superfamily of proteins into two principle clades and establishing relationships between MDHs from different cellular compartments from archaea, bacteria, and eukaryotes.

Introduction: During the influenza A (H1n1) pandemic infection, the Ministry of Health in Mexico recommended that it be considered as a suggestive clinical picture in patients with fever, cough and headache. In some places where the resource was available, the rapid seasonal influenza (A-B) test was used as an alternative identification strategy. Methods: From April 2009 to May 2010, patients under 18 years of age with acute respiratory tract symptoms were included in a retrospective study. They underwent the following procedures: 1) application of the clinical criteria recommended by the federal Ministry of Health during the A (H1n1) pandemic;2) rapid test for seasonal influenza (A-B), and 3) search for the influenza A (H1n1) virus by means of the real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The study was approved by the research and ethics committee at the Central South Hospital of the government-owned Mexican Petroleum Company (PEMEX). Results: One hundred and thirty pediatric patients with a median age of eight years and a range between one and 17 years were included. Taking into account the Ministry of Health’s criteria, we found the following: 50% sensitivity, 69% specificity, 80% positive predictive value and 27% negative predictive value versus the rapid test that displayed 82% sensitivity, 70% specificity, 80% positive predictive value and 27% negative predictive value. Conclusions: Clinical criteria display low sensitivity in the infected children studied, whereas the rapid influenza A-B test constitutes a better option to identify these patients.

The recovery of metals from a multi-component alloy obtained by crushing, melting and anodic dissolution of waste from electric and electronic equipment（WEEE） was investigated. The anodic dissolution of the alloy was carried out in an electrolysis cell with one copper cathode and a central cast anode, immersed in the electrolyte formed by choline chloride-ethylene glycol-iodine. The temperature of the electrolyte during the process was 343 K. Depending on the electrolysis parameters（current density and cell voltage）, cathodic deposits of Sn, Pb and Zn of 〉99% purity were obtained. Cyclic voltammetry was used in order to determine the deposition potentials of the studied metals. The obtained metallic deposits were subject of determination of XRD, SEM/EDX and AFM in order to evidence the deposits structure and morphology. The experiments performed demonstrated the possibility of separating/selective recovery of metals from the multi-component alloy resulted from the waste from electrical and electronic equipment by anodic dissolution in ionic liquids.
