BACKGROUND This is the first documentation of a spontaneous and nonspecific chemical reaction of an iodinated contrast media with ammonium persulfate used in As3+-Ce4+catalytic spectrophotometry for urine iodine concentration(UIC)*** SUMMARY We herein report an incidental case who had a dual source computed tomography examination for papillary thyroid carcinoma *** spot urine specimens were collected during her hospitalization and were measured by As3+-Ce4+catalytic spectrophotometry on a Beckman Coulter *** reacted solutions were“brownish”,and the results showed extremely high iodine concentrations despite serial *** patient claimed no dietary habit of iodized salt or iodine-containing medical history,which strongly pointed to iodinated contrast media(ICM)via intravenous *** with 0.01%ICM,its interruption is still profound on the desired urine iodine reaction with ammonium persulfate,leading to inaccurate UIC and possibly inappropriate *** The following laboratory suggestions should be considered:(1)As3+-Ce4+catalytic spectrophotometry is only suitable for UIC measurement after confirmed ICM renal clearance;(2)A mass spectrometry-based method can be applied as an alternative during the ICM clearance period;and(3)The UIC baseline can be confirmed after ICM injection by consecutive detection for at least 2 mo.

Whether continuous docetaxel （DTX） chemotherapy offers an advantage over intermittent therapy for castration-resistant prostate cancer （CRPC） is unknown. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy, toxicity and quality of life （QoL） of intermittent tri-weekly DTX with bicalutamide in CRPC. Forty-two patients （group A） with CRPC were enrolled. The patients received intravenous DTX （75 mg m^-2） once tri-weekly with oral bicalutamide （50 mg） once daily. Patients had a DTX holiday when the prostate-specific antigen （PSA） level declined ≥ 50%. DTX was restarted in patients with a PSA increase ≥ 25%. Sixty patients （group B） who had matching characteristics and had continuously received DTX without bicalutamide for 10-12 cycles were also enrolled. There were no statistically significant differences in progression-free survival （8 months vs. 9 months, P=0.866） or overall survival （19 months vs. 21 months, P=0.753） between groups A and B; however, the proportions of patients in group A with all grades of neutropenia （33% vs. 58%, P=0.013） and nausea/vomiting （11% vs. 29%, P=0.024） were significantly less compared to group B. A significant improvement in the global health and fatigue scores was recorded for group A post-chemotherapy compared to pre-chemotherapy （P〈0.05）. The fatigue, nausea/ vomiting and appetite loss scores in group B were increased post-chemotherapy compared to pre-chemotherapy （P〈0.05）. In conclusion, intermittent tri-weekly DTX plus bicalutamide is well tolerated and has the potential to achieve comparable disease control with an improvement in QoL for oatients with CRPC.

目的探讨益母草碱对大鼠肠系膜动脉的力学效应及其机制。方法 50只SD大鼠随机分为对照组,益母草碱低、中、高剂量组,每组10只,另外10只做离体实验。益母草碱组给予益母草碱生理盐水悬浊液,对照组给予等量生理盐水分别灌胃。4周后测定各组大鼠血清中NO和血浆中ET-1含量,分离肠系膜三级动脉HE染色。用微血管测定系统观察益母草碱对内皮完整和去内皮的离体实验组肠系膜三级动脉环舒张效应,以及一氧化氮合酶抑制剂(L-NAME)、可溶性鸟苷酸环化酶(s GC)抑制剂(NS-2028)和钙离子通道拮抗剂硝苯地平孵育后益母草碱对动脉环的舒张效应。结果益母草碱灌胃组大鼠血清中NO和血浆中ET-1含量较对照组低,并且具有浓度依赖效应,ET-1较NO降低的更快;HE染色显示益母草碱组血管壁较对照组薄,并且具有浓度依赖效应。益母草碱对内皮完整的动脉环有直接舒张作用,对去内皮和L-NAME、NS-2028、硝苯地平孵育之后的动脉环舒张效应均明显减弱。结论益母草碱灌胃对大鼠肠系膜动脉具有保护作用,益母草碱对离体大鼠肠系膜动脉环具有浓度依赖性和内皮依赖性的舒张效应,这种舒张效应可能与NO-s GC-c GMP信号通路及L型钙离子通道有关。

Stroke is classified as ischemic or hemorrhagic,and there are few effective treatments for either *** mechanisms play a critical role in secondary brain injury following a stroke,which manifests as cytokine release,blood–brain barrier disruption,neuronal cell death,and ultimately behavioral *** the inflammatory response has been shown to mitigate this cascade of events in experimental stroke ***,in clinical trials of anti-inflammatory agents,longterm immunosuppression has not demonstrated significant clinical benefits for *** may be attributable to the dichotomous roles of inflammation in both tissue injury and repair,as well as the complex pathophysiologic inflammatory processes in *** acute harmful inflammatory responses or inducing a phenotypic shift from a pro-inflammatory to an anti-inflammatory state at specific time points after a stroke are alternative and promising therapeutic *** agents that can modulate inflammation requires a detailed understanding of the inflammatory processes of ***,epigenetic reprogramming plays a crucial role in modulating post-stroke inflammation and can potentially be exploited for stroke *** this review,we summarize current findings on the epigenetic regulation of the inflammatory response in stroke,focusing on key signaling pathways including nuclear factor-kappa B,Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription,and mitogen-activated protein kinase as well as inflammasome *** also discuss promising molecular targets for stroke *** evidence to date indicates that therapeutic targeting of the epigenetic regulation of inflammation can shift the balance from inflammation-induced tissue injury to repair following stroke,leading to improved post-stroke outcomes.
