Heterosis in root microbiota inhibits growth of soil-borne fungal pathogens in hybrid rice

In nature,plants are colonized by various microbes that play essential roles in their growth and health.Heterosis is a natural genetic phenomenon whereby first-generation hybrids exhibit superior phenotypic performance relative to their parents.It remains unclear whether this concept can be extended to the“hybridization”of microbiota from two parents in their descendants and what benefits the hybrid microbiota might convey.Here,we investigated the structure and function of the root microbiota from three hybrid rice varieties and their parents through amplicon sequencing analysis of bacterial 16S ribosomal DNA(rDNA)and fungal internal transcribed spacer(ITS)regions.We show that the bacterial and fungal root microbiota of the varieties are distinct from those of their parental lines and exhibit potential heterosis features in diversity and composition.Moreover,the root bacterial microbiota of hybrid variety LYP9 protects rice against soil-borne fungal pathogens.Systematic analysis of the protective capabilities of individual strains from a 30-member bacterial synthetic community derived from LYP9 roots indicated that community members have additive protective roles.Global transcription profiling analyses suggested that LYP9 root bacterial microbiota activate rice reactive oxygen species production and cell wall biogenesis,contributing to heterosis for protection.In addition,we demonstrate that the protection conferred by the LYP9 root microbiota is transferable to neighboring plants,potentially explaining the observed hybrid-mediated superior effects of mixed planting.Our findings suggest that some hybrids exhibit heterosis in their microbiota composition that promotes plant health,highlighting the potential for microbiota heterosis in breeding hybrid crops.

Chinese herbal medicines have been extensively used in China and other countries for cen-turies.Aconitine,a diterpenoid alkaloid extracted from Aconitum plants,has anti-inflamma-tory and analgesic activities,but can also induce severe arrhythmia and neurotoxicity.Aconitine poisoning accidents caused by misuse,suicide,or homicide have been reported in recent years.In China,fatal aconitine poisoning can occasionally happen on account of acci-dental ingestion of some wild plants or consumption of herbal decoction made from the roots of Aconitum plants.However,it is rather difficult for forensic experts to find the specific results in present forensic autopsy of aconitine-induced death.To further clarify its potential risk following the widespread application of aconitine,toxicological characteristics and pharmacokinetics of aconitine are reviewed.Moreover,gastrointestinal,neurological,and car-diovascular symptoms were observed frequently in aconitine poisoning cases.In addition,the review also aims at providing some convincing evidences for forensic experts to identify unexplained death with postmortem examination.

In this paper, we investigate local properties in the system of completely 1-summing mapping spaces. We introduce notions of injectivity, local reflexivity, exactness, nuclearity and finite-representability in the system of completely 1-summing mapping spaces. First we obtain that if V has WEP, V is locally reflexive in the system (Ⅱ1(⋅,⋅), π1(⋅)) if and only if it is locally reflexive in the system (Ⅰ(⋅,⋅), t(⋅)). Furthermore we prove that an operator space V ⊆ B(H) is exact in the system (Ⅱ1(⋅,⋅), π1(⋅)) if and only if V is finitely representable in {Mn}n∈N in the system (Ⅱ1(⋅,⋅), π1(⋅)). At last, we show that an operator space V is finitely representable in {Mn}n∈N in the system (Ⅱ1(⋅,⋅), π1(⋅)) if and only if V = C.

A mathematical mechanism of the n-pentane pyrolysis process based on free radical reaction model was presented.The kinetic parameters of n-pentane pyrolysis are obtained by quantum chemistry and the reaction network is established. The solution of the stiff ordinary differential equations in the n-pentane pyrolysis model is completed by semi implicit Eular algorithm. Then the pyrolysis mechanism based on free radical reaction model is built,and the computational efficiency increases 10 times by algorithm optimization. The validity of this model and its solution method is confirmed by the experimental results of n-pentane pyrolysis.

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the myelin sheath in the central nervous system.It is characterized by blood-brain barrier dysfunction throughout the course of multiple sclerosis, followed by the entry of immune cells and activation of local microglia and astrocytes.Glial cells(microglia, astrocytes, and oligodendrocyte lineage cells) are known as the important mediators of neuroinflammation, all of which play major roles in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis.Network communications between glial cells affect the activities of oligodendrocyte lineage cells and influence the demyelination-remyelination process.A finely balanced glial response may create a favorable lesion environment for efficient remyelination and neuroregeneration.This review focuses on glial response and neurodegeneration based on the findings from multiple sclerosis and major rodent demyelination models.In particular, glial interaction and molecular crosstalk are discussed to provide insights into the potential cell-and molecule-specific therapeutic targets to improve remyelination and neuroregeneration.

Influence of opening ratios and directions of windows on natural smoke exhaust effect in atrium buildings

In this paper,the influence of different opening ratios and different opening directions of the windows on the natural smoke exhaust was studied through a series of real fire experiments and simulation analysis.Increasing the open area of the window could effectively improve the overall smoke exhaust effect.When the top windows were open and the opening ratio increased from 19.2%to 24.3%,the optical density was decreased by 12.4%.The average smoke exhaust rate per unit area of the window did not change significantly.Increasing the area of the natural smoke exhaust window could effectively increase the smoke exhaust rate and improve the overall effect of smoke extraction.When the top windows were open,the temperature rise on the top floor was 30.8%-47.5%lower while the visibility was 16.8%-21.9%higher than that when the side windows were open.

Estimating the Operation Status of Steam Cracking Furnace Using Numerical Simulation with Combustion Models

An accurate and complete geometric model was constructed to simulate the combustion, flow and temperature environment in the radiant section of the steam cracking furnace. Simulation of flow and radiation status has utilized the standard k-ε model and P1 model. The finite-rate/eddy-dissipation (finite-rate/ED) combustion model and non-premixed combustion model were both used to simulate accurately the combustion and the operation status of the steam cracking furnace. Three different surfaces of the steam cracking furnace were obtained from the simulation, namely:the flue gas temperature field of the entrance surface in long flame burners, the central surface location of tubes, and the crossover section surface. Detailed information on the flue gas temperature and the mass concentration fraction of these different surfaces in the steam cracking furnace can also be obtained by the simulation. This paper analyzed and compared the simulation results with the two combustion models, estimated the operation status of the steam cracking furnace, and reported that the finite-rate/ED model is appropriate to simulate the steam cracking furnace by comparing key simulation data with actual test data. This work has also provided a theoretical basis for simulating and operating the steam cracking furnace.
