Histone H3 Lys36(H3K36)methylation and its associated modifiers are crucial for DNA double-strand break(DSB)repair,but the mechanism governing whether and how different H3K36 methylation forms impact repair pathways is ***,we unveil the distinct roles of H3K36 dimethylation(H3K36me2)and H3K36 trimethylation(H3K36me3)in DSB repair via non-homologous end joining(NHEJ)or homologous recombination(HR).Yeast cells lacking H3K36me2 or H3K36me3 exhibit reduced NHEJ or HR efficiency.y Ku70 and Rfa1 bind H3K36me2-or H3K36me3-modified peptides and chromatin,*** these interactions impairs y Ku70 and Rfa1 recruitment to damaged H3K36me2-or H3K36me3-rich loci,increasing DNA damage sensitivity and decreasing repair ***,H3K36me2-enriched intergenic regions and H3K36me3-enriched gene bodies independently recruit y Ku70 or Rfa1 under DSB ***,human KU70 and RPA1,the homologs of y Ku70 and Rfa1,exclusively associate with H3K36me2 and H3K36me3 in a conserved *** findings provide valuable insights into how H3K36me2 and H3K36me3 regulate distinct DSB repair pathways,highlighting H3K36 methylation as a critical element in the choice of DSB repair pathway.

NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF THE HYDRODYNAMIC PERFORMANCE OF AN UNSYMMETRICAL FLAPPING CAUDAL FIN

A comprehensive numerical simulation of the hydrodynamic performance of a caudal fin with unsymmetric flapping motion is carried out. The unsymmetrical motion is induced by adding a pitch bias or a heave bias. A numerical simulation program based on the unsteady panel method is developed to simulate the hydrodynamics of an unsymmetrical flapping caudal fin. A CFD code based on Navier-Stokes equations is used to analyze the flow field. Computational results of both the panel method and the CFD method indicate that the hydrodynamics are greatly affected by the pitch bias and the heave bias. The mean lateral force coefficient is not zero as in contrast with the symmetrical flapping motion. By increasing the pitch bias angle, the mean thrust force coefficient is reduced rapidly. By adding a heave bias, the hydrodynamic coefficients are separated as two parts： in one part, the amplitude is the heave amplitude plus the bias and in the other part, it is the heave amplitude minus the bias. Analysis of the flow field shows that the vortex distribution is not symmetrical, which generates the non-zero mean lateral force coefficient.

Temperature waves in chemical reaction-diffusion-heat conduction systems with two ends respectively subject to Dirichlet and no-flux conditions

Taking the lindemann model as a sample system in which there exist chemical reactions, diffusion and heat conduction, we found the theoretical framework of linear stability analysis for a unidimensional nonhomogeneous two-variable system with one end subject to Dirichlet conditions, while the other end no-flux conditions. Furthermore, the conditions for the emergence of temperature waves are found out by the linear stability analysis and verified by a diagram for successive steps of evolution of spatial profile of temperature during a period that is plotted by numerical simulations on a computer. Without doubt, these results are in favor of the heat balance in chemical reactor designs.

Congenital aortic arch anomalies: diagnosis using contrast enhanced magnetic resonance angiography

Congenital aortic arch anomalies occur most commonly in children. The disease can be classified into three types： ① obstructive congenital abnormalities, including coarctation of aorta （CoA） and interruption of aortic arch （IAA）; ② nonobstructive congenital abnormalities, including double aortic arch and others; ③ congenital shunt abnormalities, including different types of patent ductus arteriosus （PDA）. Management of patients with congenital aortic arch anomalies relies on imaging. Routine imaging modalities, such as conventional X-ray plain film and transthoracic echocardiography （TTE）, have been recently complemented by magnetic resonance imaging （MRI）.

NUMERICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES OF INFLUENCE OF THE CAUDAL FIN SHAPE ON THE PROPULSION PERFORMANCE OF A FLAPPING CAUDAL FIN

This article presents a comprehensive study of the effects of the caudal fin shape on the propulsion performance of a candal fin in harmonic heaving and pitching. A numerical simulation based on an unsteady panel method was carried out to analyze the hydrodynamic performance of flapping caudal fins of three shapes （the whale caudal fin with the largest projected area, the dolphin caudal fin with the median projected area, and the tuna caudal fin with the smallest projected area）. Then, a series of hydrodynamic experiments for three caudal fin shapes were performed. Both computational and experimental results indicate that the tuna caudal fin produces the highest efficiency. However the mean thrust coefficient of the tuna caudal fin is the smallest. It is found that although the mean thrust coefficient for the tuna caudal fin is not large, the input power of the tuna caudal fin is also quite small. So the tuna caudal fin achieves a high efficiency.

Physicochemical Properties and Evaluation of Microemulsion Systems for Transdermal Delivery of Meloxicam

Microemulsion systems, composed of water, isopropyl myristate （IPM）, polyoxyethylene sorbitan trioleate （Tween 85 ）, and ethanol, were investigated as transdermal drug delivery vehicles for a lipophilic model drug（ meloxicam）. The purpose of this study was to investigate the physicochemieal properties of the tested microemulsion and to find the correlation between the physicoehemical properties and the skin permeation rate of the microemulsion. Pseudo-ternary phase diagram of the investigated system at a constant surfactant/cosurfactant mass ratio （ Km = 1 ： 1 ） was constructed by titration at 20℃, and the five fommlations were selected for further research in the o/w microemulsion domains. The values of electrical conductivity and viscosity showed that the selected systems were bicontinuous or non-spherical o/w microemulsion, and the electrical conductivity and viscosity were increased with increasing the content of water. These results suggest that the optimum formulation of microemulsion, containing 0. 375 meloxicam, 5% isopropyl myristate, 25% Tween 85. 25% ethanol, and water, showed the maximum permeation rate. It had a high electrical conductivity, small droplet size, and proper viscocity.

Electrooxidation of Hydroxypivalaldehyde in an Undivided Cell

The factors affecting the electrooxidation of hydroxypivalaldehyde（HPAL） in an undivided cell were studied by using cyclic voltammetry（CV）, linear scan voltammetry（ LSV）, and potentiostatic electrolysis. The electrocatalytic activity and stability of a PbO2 electrode in sulfuric acid, acetic acid, and phosphoric acid were studied. The selectivity and the current efficiency for producing hydroxypivalic acid were explored with different supporting electrolytes, concentrations of HPAL, and pH values. The results show that higher selectivity and current efficiency for producing hydroxypivalic acid can be achieved when sulfuric acid with a high concentration is used as the supporting electrolyte and the selectivity and the current efficiency can reach 80% and 60%. resvectively.

Protective effects of carbenoxolone are associated with attenuation of oxidative stress in ischemic brain injury

Accumulating evidence has suggested that the gap junction plays an important role in the determination of cerebral ischemia, but the underlying mechanisms remain to be elucidated. In this study, we assessed the effect of a gap-junction blocker, carbenoxolone （CBX）, on ischemia/reperfusion-induced brain injury and the possible mechanisms. By using the transient cerebral ischemia model induced by occlusion of the middle cerebral artery for 30 min followed by reperfusion for 24 h, we found that pre-administration of CBX （25 mg/kg, intracerebroventricular injection, 30 min before cerebral ischemic surgery） diminished the infarction size in rats. And this was associated with a decrease of reactive oxygen species generation and inhibition of the activation of astrocytes and microglia. In PC12 cells, H202 treatment induced more coupling and apoptosis, while CBX partly inhibited the opening of gap junctions and improved the cell viability. These results suggest that cerebral ischemia enhances the opening of gap junctions. Blocking the gap junction with CBX may attenuate the brain injury after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion by partially contributing to amelioration of the oxidative stress and apoptosis.
