Rare-earth and transition metal ion single-/co-doped double-perovskite tantalate phosphors: Validation of suitability for versatile applications

Novel rare-earth (RE;e.g., europium (Eu^(3+)), samarium (Sm^(3+)), and praseodymium (Pr^(3+))) and transition metal (TM^(4+);e.g., manganese (Mn^(4+))) ion single-/co-doped double-perovskite Ca2InTaO6 (CITO) phosphors were prepared and investigated with respect to their crystal structure and photoluminescence (PL) properties. Among them, the CITO:Eu^(3+) phosphors were found to exhibit an ultra-high internal PL quantum yield (89.1%) and good thermal stability (78.7% at 423 K relative to the initial value at 303 K). As such, the corresponding packaged white light-emitting diode (LED) was able to display a remarkable color rendering index (CRI;= 91.51@10 mA). Besides, the potential in applications of anti-counterfeiting fields and a novel LED structure based on flexible phosphor-converted films was also studied. Moreover, due to their different thermal quenching, trivalent lanthanide (Ln^(3+))/Mn^(4+) co-doped CITO phosphors were designed for optical thermometry based on the luminescence intensity ratio (LIR) between different 4f transitions of various Ln^(3+) ions and ^(2)Eg → ^(4)A_(2g) (Mn^(4+)) transition. Particularly, the LIR between the ^(4)G_(5/2) → ^(6)H_(9/2) and ^(2)Eg → ^(4)A_(2g) peaks of the CITO activated with 5 mol% Sm^(3+) and 0.3 mol% Mn^(4+) exhibited the most excellent relative sensitivity (Sr;= 3.80 %·K^(−1)) with beneficial temperature uncertainty of 0.0648 K. Overall, these results are of significance to offer valuable databases for constructing multifunctional high-performance optical platforms using single-/co-doped double-perovskite tantalates.

Phase separations have been studied for graded-indium content In_xGa_（1-x）N/GaN multiple quantum wells（MQWs） with different indium contents by means of photoluminescence（PL）,cathodeluminescence（CL） and time-resolved PL（TRPL） *** the main emission peaks,all samples show another 2 peaks at the high and low energy parts of the main peaks in PL when excited at 10 *** images show a clear contrast for 3 samples,which indicates an increasing phase separation with increasing indium *** spectra at 15 K of the main emissions show an increasing delay of rising time with indium content,which means a carrier transferring from low indium content structures to high indium content structures.

Time-dependent effect of combination therapy with erythropoietin and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor in a mouse model of hypoxic-ischemic brain injury

Erythropoietin （EPO） and granulocyte colony- stimulating factor （G-CSF） are likely to play broad roles in the brain. We investigated the effects of combination therapy with EPO and G-CSF in hypoxic- ischemic brain injury during the acute, subacute, and chronic phases. A total of 79 C57BL/6 mice with hypoxic-ischemic brain injury were randomly assigned acute （days 1-5）, subacute （days 11-15）and chronic （days 28-32） groups. All of them were treated with G-CSF （250 μg/kg） and EPO （5 000 U/kg） or saline daily for 5 consecutive days. Behavioral assessments and immunohistochemistry for angiogenesis, neuro- genesis, and astrogliosis were performed with an 8-week follow-up. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1 （HIF-1） was also measured by Western blot analysis. The results showed that the combination therapy with EPO and G-CSF in the acute phase significantly improved rotarod performance and forelimb-use symmetry compared to the other groups, while subacute EPO and G-CSF therapy exhibited a modest improvement compared with the chronic saline controls. The acute treatment significantly increased the density of CD31^＋（PECAM-1） and a-smooth muscle actin^＋ vessels in the frontal cortex and striatum, increased BrdU^＋/PSA- NCAM^＋ neurogenesis in the subventricular zone, and decreased astroglial density in the striatum. Furthermore, acute treatment significantly increased the HIF-1 expression in the cytosol and nucleus, whereas chronic treatment did not change the HIF-1 expression, consistent with the behavioral outcomes. These results indicate that the induction of HIF-1 expression by combination therapy with EPO and G-CSF synergistically enhances not only behavioral function but also neurogenesis and angiogenesis while decreasing the astroglial response in a time- dependent manner.

Acoustic radiation force impulse elastography for hepatocellular carcinoma-associated radiofrequency ablation

AIM:To evaluate the potential usefulness of acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) images for evaluation of hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC)-associated radiofrequency ablation. METHODS:From January 2010 to June 2010,a total of 38 patients with HCC including recurred HCCs after RFA underwent ARFI elastography. The brightness of tumor was checked and the shear wave velocity was measure-d for the-quantification of stiffne-ss. According to theb-rightne-ss,the-tumors we-re-classifie-d as b-righte-r,samecolor and darker compared with adjacent parenchyma. Using the same methods,8 patients with recurred HCCs after RFA state were evaluated about the brightness compared with adjacent RFA ablation area. RESULTS:In the 38 patients with HCCs,20 (52.6%)were brighter than surrounding cirrhotic parenchyma. Another 13 (34.2%) were darker. The others (5 cases,13.2%) were seen as the same color as the adjacent liver parenchyma. Post-RFA lesions were darker than previous tumor and surrounding parenchyma in all 38 cases. However,recurred HCCs were brighter than the treated site in all 8 cases. CONCLUSION:Using ARFI technique is helpful for differential diagnosis in order to detect recurred HCCs more easily in patients with confusing status.

Effect of CuO addition on microstructure and properties of aluminum composites produced by quick spontaneous infiltration process

Al matrix composites with a high volume fraction of reinforcements were fabricated with a compact of Al-Ti-B4C powder mixtures by quick spontaneous infiltration(QSI) process in an aluminum melt. Given the exothermal nature of the reaction between CuO and Al, a certain amount of CuO addition to the Al-Ti-B4C system dramatically increases the adiabatic temperature and thereby enables the complete combustion reaction in an aluminum melt(about 1,173 K). After the QSI process, the compact fabricated with CuO retains its original shape and the obtained composite exhibits sound microstructure containing reaction products of TiB2, Al3BC and B4C. The formation of such reinforcements when adding CuO contributes to enhancing the properties of the composites that show far superior hardness and elastic modulus of 3.03 GPa and 158.9 GPa, respectively, with lower coefficient of thermal expansion(9.44 ppm?K-1) compared to those with no CuO addition.

目的探讨左炔诺孕酮宫内节育系统(LNG-IUS)在子宫内膜息肉(EP)患者宫腔镜术后治疗中的效果。方法采用随机数字表法将2020年1月至2021年11月浙江省荣军医院和嘉兴市第一医院治疗的68例EP患者分为A组和B组,各34例。两组均给予宫腔镜手术,术后A组给予地屈孕酮片治疗,B组放置LNG-IUS。比较两组术前及术后6、12个月的子宫内膜厚度,术前、术后12个月的血管内皮生长因子(VEGF)、γ干扰素(IFN-γ)、总胆固醇(cho)、载脂蛋白A1(LAA1)、性激素水平,治疗期间的不良反应。结果两组术后12个月的子宫内膜厚度均低于术前、术后6个月,术后6个月低于术前;且术后6、12个月,与A组比较,B组子宫内膜厚度更低(P0.05)。与治疗前比较,术后12个月两组血清IFN-γ、VEGF、cho、LAA1水平均降低,且与A组比较,B组更低(P<0.05)。治疗期间,B组不良反应发生率低于A组(P<0.05)。结论将LNG-IUS应用于EP患者宫腔镜术后的治疗中可有效改善患者子宫内膜厚度,调整患者血清IFN-γ、VEGF及血脂指标水平,其对患者性激素的影响较小,且具有较高的安全性。

Effect of trapping vascular endothelial growth factor-A in a murine model of dry eye with inflammatory neovascularization

AIM： To evaluate whether trapping vascular endothelial growth factor-A（VEGF-A） would suppress angiogenesis and inflammation in dry eye corneas in a murine corneal suture ***： We established two groups of animals, one with non-dry eyes and the other with induced dry *** both groups, a corneal suture model was used to induce inflammation and neovascularization. Each of two groups was again divided into three subgroups according to the treatment; subgroup I（aflibercept）,subgroup II（dexamethasone） and subgroup III（phosphate buffered saline, PBS）. Corneas were harvested and immunohistochemical staining was performed to compare the extents of neovascularization and CD11b＋ cell infiltration. Real-time polymerase chain reaction was performed to quantify the expression of inflammatory cytokines and VEGF-A in the ***： Trapping VEGF-A with aflibercept resulted in significantly decreased angiogenesis and inflammation compared with the dexamethasone and PBS treatments in the dry eye corneas（all P 〈0.05）, but with no such effects in non-dry eyes. The anti-inflammatory and antiangiogenic effects of VEGF-A trapping were stronger than those of dexamethasone in both dry eye and non-dry eye corneas（all P 〈0.05）. The levels of RNA expression of VEGF-A, TNF-alpha, and IL-6 in the aflibercept subgroup were significantly decreasedcompared with those in the PBS subgroup in the dry eye ***： Compared with non-dry eye corneas,dry eye corneas have greater amounts of inflammation and neovascularization and also have a more robust response to anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic agents after ocular surface surgery. Trapping VEGF-A is effective in decreasing both angiogenesis and inflammation in dry eye corneas after ocular surface surgery.

Sequence Information on Simple Sequence Repeats and Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms through Transcriptome Analysis of Mungbean

Mungbean （Vigna radiata （L.） Wilczek） is a unique species in its ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen, with early maturity, and relatively good drought resistance. We used 454 sequencing technology for transcriptome sequencing. A total of 150 159 and 142 993 reads produced 5 254 and 6 374 large contigs （〉_500 bp） with an average length of 833 and 853 for Sunhwa and Jangan, respectively. Functional annotation to known sequences yielded 41.34% and 41.74% unigenes for Jangan and Sunhwa. A higher number of simple sequence repeat （SSR） motifs was identified in Jangan （1 630） compared with that of Sunhwa （1 334）. A similar SSR distribution pattern was observed in both varieties. A total of 8 249 single nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs） and indels with 2 098 high-confidence candidates were identified in the two mungbean varieties. The average distance between individual SNPs was -860 bp. Our report demonstrates the utility of transcriptomic data for implementing a functional annotation and development of genetic markers. We also provide large resource sequence data for mungbean improvement programs.

Acquisition of pluripotency in the chick embryo occurs during intrauterine embryonic development via a unique transcriptional network

Background: Acquisition of pluripotency by transcriptional regulatory factors is an initial developmental event that is required for regulation of cell fate and lineage specification during early embryonic development. The evolutionarily conserved core transcriptional factors regulating the pluripotency network in fishes, amphibians, and mammals have been elucidated. There are also species-specific maternally inherited transcriptional factors and their intricate transcriptional networks important in the acquisition of pluripotency. In avian species, however, the core transcriptional network that governs the acquisition of pluripotency during early embryonic development is not well ***: We found that chicken NANOG(c NANOG) was expressed in the stages between the pre-ovulatory follicle and oocyte and was continuously detected in Eyal-Giladi and Kochav stage I(EGK.I) to X. However, c POUV was not expressed during fol iculogenesis, but began to be detectable between EGK.V and VI. Unexpectedly, c SOX2 could not be detected during fol iculogenesis and intrauterine embryonic development. Instead of c SOX2, c SOX3 was maternally inherited and continuously expressed during chicken intrauterine development. In addition, we found that the pluripotency-related genes such as c ENS-1, c KIT, c LIN28 A, c MYC, c PRDM14, and c SALL4 began to be dramatical y upregulated between *** and ***: These results suggest that chickens have a unique pluripotent circuitry since maternally inherited c NANOG and c SOX3 may play an important role in the initial acquisition of pluripotency. Moreover, the acquisition of pluripotency in chicken embryos occurs at around *** to VI I.
