BACKGROUND The expression of brain cytoplasmic RNA1(BCYRN1)is linked to the clinicopathology and prognosis of several types of cancers,among which hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is one of the most frequent types of cancer worldwide.AIM To explore the prognostic value and immunotherapeutic potential of BCYRN1 in HCC by bioinformatics and meta-analysis.METHODS Information was obtained from the Cancer Genome Atlas database.First,the correlation between BCYRN1 expression and prognosis and clinicopathologic characteristics of HCC patients was explored.Univariate and multivariate regression analyses were employed to examine the relationship between BCYRN1 and HCC prognosis.Secondly,potential functions and pathways were explored by means of enrichment analysis of differentially-expressed genes.The relationships between BCYRN1 expression and tumor microenvironment,immune cell infiltration,immune checkpoint,drug sensitivity and immunotherapy effect were also investigated.Finally,three major databases were searched and used to conduct a meta-analysis on the relationship between BCYRN1 expression and patient prognosis.RESULTS BCYRN1 expression was significantly higher in HCC compared to normal tissues and was linked to a poor prognosis and clinicopathological characteristics.Enrichment analysis showed that BCYRN1 regulates the extracellular matrix and transmission of signaling molecules,participates in the metabolism of nutrients,such as proteins,and participates in tumor-related pathways.BCYRN1 expression was linked to the tumor microenvironment,immune cell infiltration,drug sensitivity and the efficacy of immunotherapy.Furthermore,the meta-analysis in this study showed that BCYRN1 overexpression was related to a worse outcome in HCC patients.CONCLUSION Overexpression of BCYRN1 relates to poor prognosis and may be a potential prognostic factor and immunotherapeutic target in HCC.

Mechanism of hyperproteinemia-induced blood cell homeostasis imbalance in an animal model

Hyperproteinemia is a metabolic disorder associated with increased plasma protein concentration(PPC)and is often clinically complicated by malignant diseases or severe infections.At present,however,research on the molecular mechanism underlying high PPC(HPPC)is scant.Here,an animal model of primary hyperproteinemia was constructed in an invertebrate(Bombyx mori)to investigate the effects of HPPC on circulating blood cells.Results showed that HPPC affected blood cell homeostasis,leading to increased reactive oxygen species levels,and induced programmed cell death dependent on the endoplasmic reticulum-calcium ion signaling pathway.HPPC induced the proliferation of blood cells,mainly granulocytes,by activating the Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription(JAK/STAT)signaling pathway.Supplementation with the endocrine hormone active substance 20 E significantly reduced the impact of HPPC on blood cell homeostasis.Thus,we identified a novel signaling pathway by which HPPC affects blood cell homeostasis,which differs from hyperglycemia,hyperlipidemia,and hypercholesterolemia.In addition,we showed that down-regulation of gene expression of the hematopoietic factor Gcm could be used as a potential early detection indicator for hyperproteinemia.

An FTIR Study of Kyanite in the Maobei Kyanite-Bearing Eclogites from the Sulu Orogenic Belt, Eastern China

As a minor phase, kyanite has been repeatedly shown to have experienced ultrahigh pressure （UHP） metamorphism together with its host eclogites. Thus, it could play some role in trans- porting water into the deep earth. Here we present a detailed investigation of water concentrations of kyanite, and for reference, of garnet and omphacite from four Maobei eclogites in the Sulu orogenic belt, eastern China. Fourier transform infrared （FTIR） measurements show that kyanites, garnets, and omphacites all have distinct hydroxyl absorption bands due to OH groups bound in their crystal struc- ture. The FTIR profile analyses on ten grains from different samples reveal a homogeneous distribution of water across kyanite, suggesting insignificant water loss during exhumation. The calculated water concentrations in kyanite （21 wt ppm-41 wt ppm） are comparable to those reported previously for kyanite from various geological occurrences when using the most recent calibration. They are however much lower compared with those in garnet （46 wt ppm-83 wt ppm） and omphacite （302 wt ppm-548 wt ppm） from the Maobei eclogites. This implies that kyanite is not a major water carrier in eclogites con- sidering its low volume fraction and contributes negligibly to transport water into the deep mantle ac- companying subducted oceanic crust until its possible transformation to AISiO3OH.

BACKGROUND Conventional Billroth Ⅱ(BⅡ) anastomosis after laparoscopic distal gastrectomy(LDG) for gastric cancer(GC) is associated with bile reflux gastritis, and Roux-enY anastomosis is associated with Roux-Y stasis syndrome(RSS). The uncut Rouxen-Y(URY) gastrojejunostomy reduces these complications by blocking the entry of bile and pancreatic juice into the residual stomach and preserving the impulse originating from the duodenum, while BⅡ with Braun(BB) anastomosis reduces the postoperative biliary reflux without RSS. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of laparoscopic URY with BB anastomosis in patients with GC who underwent radical distal gastrectomy.AIM To evaluate the value of URY in patients with GC.METHODS PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, Chinese Biomedical Database, and VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals(VIP) were used to search relevant studies published from January 1994 to August 18, 2021. The following databases were also used in our search: Clinicaltrials.gov, Data Archiving and Networked Services, the World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Registry Platform Search Portal(https://www.***.int/clinical-trials-registry-platform/the-ictrp-search-portal), the reference lists of articles and relevant conference proceedings in August 2021. In addition, we conducted a relevant search by Reference Citation Analysis(RCA)(https://***). We cited highquality references using its results analysis functionality. The methodological quality of the eligible randomized clinical trials(RCTs) was evaluated using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool, and the non-RCTs were evaluated using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. Statistical analyses were performed using Review Manager(Version 5.4).RESULTS Eight studies involving 704 patients were included in this meta-analysis. A GPU-Accelerated In-Memory Metadata Management Scheme forLarge-Scale Parallel File Systems

Driven by the increasing requirements of high-performance computing applications,supercomputers are prone to containing more and more computing nodes.Applications running on such a large-scale computing system are likely to spawn millions of parallel processes,which usually generate a burst of I/O requests,introducing a great challenge into the metadata management of underlying parallel file systems.The traditional method used to overcome such a challenge is adopting multiple metadata servers in the scale-out manner,which will inevitably confront with serious network and consistence problems.This work instead pursues to enhance the metadata performance in the scale-up manner.Specifically,we propose to improve the performance of each individual metadata server by employing GPU to handle metadata requests in parallel.Our proposal designs a novel metadata server architecture,which employs CPU to interact with file system clients,while offloading the computing tasks about metadata into GPU.To take full advantages of the parallelism existing in GPU,we redesign the in-memory data structure for the name space of file systems.The new data structure can perfectly fit to the memory architecture of GPU,and thus helps to exploit the large number of parallel threads within GPU to serve the bursty metadata requests concurrently.We implement a prototype based on BeeGFS and conduct extensive experiments to evaluate our proposal,and the experimental results demonstrate that our GPU-based solution outperforms the CPU-based scheme by more than 50%under typical metadata operations.The superiority is strengthened further on high concurrent scenarios,e.g.,the high-performance computing systems supporting millions of parallel threads.

An Investigation of Dislocation in Olivine Phenocrysts from the Hawaiian Basalts

Intracrystalline distortions(like undulose extinction,dislocations,and subgrain boundaries)in olivine from naturally-deformed peridotites are generally taken as signs of dislocation creep.However,similar features in olivine phenocrysts that have been found in basaltic magmas are still not well understood.In particular,whether subgrain boundaries in olivine phenocrysts arise from plastic deformation or grain growth is still debated(in the latter case,they are essentially grain boundaries but not subgrain boundaries.Therefore,we used hereinafter subgrain-boundary-like structures instead of subgrain boundaries to name this kind of intracrystalline distortion).Here we carried out a detailed study on dislocations and subgrainboundary-like(SG-like)structures in olivine phenocrysts from two Hawaiian basaltic lavas by means of petrographic microscopy,scanning electron microscopy,and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).Abundant and complex dislocation substructures(free dislocations,dislocation walls,and dislocation tangles)were observed in the decorated olivine grains,similar to those in olivine from peridotite xenoliths entrained by the Hawaiian basalts.The measured average dislocation density is(2.9±1.3)×1011 m-2,and is three to five orders of magnitude higher than that in laboratory-synthesized,undeformed olivine.TEM observations on samples cut across the SG-like structures by FIB(focused ion beam)demonstrated that this kind of structures is made of an array of dislocations.These observations clearly indicate that these structures are real subgrain boundaries rather than grain boundaries.These facts suggest that the observed high dislocation densities and subgrain boundaries cannot result from crystal crystallization/growth,but can be formed by plastic deformation.These deformation features do not prove that the olivine phenocrysts(and implicitly mantle xenoliths)were deformed after their capture by the basaltic magmas,but can be ascribed to a former deformation event in a dunitic cumulate,which was formed by magmat

Ethylene thiourea exposure induces neurobehavioral toxicity in zebrafish by disrupting axon growth and neuromuscular junctions

Ethylene thiourea(ETU)converted from ethylene bisdithiocarbamate(EBDC)fungicides has aroused great concern because of its prevalence and harmful effects.Although ETU-induced neurotoxicity has been reported,the potential mechanisms remain unclear.This study provided insights into its neurotoxic effects at environmentally relevant concentrations in zebrafish.Our findings showed that embryonic exposure to ETU decreased the hatch rate and delayed somite development.Furthermore,ETU treatment significantly reduced the dark velocity in the locomotion assay.The upregulated tendency of the mitogen-activated protein kinases(MAPK)pathway(mknk1,atf4,mapkapk3)screened by transcriptome analysis implied motor neuron degeneration,which was validated by subsequent morphological observation,as axon length and branches were truncated in the 62.5μg/L ETU group.However,although the rescue experiment with a p38 MAPK inhibitor(SB203580)successfully ameliorated axon degeneration,it failed to reverse the locomotion behaviors.Further exploration of transcriptome data revealed the varied expression of presynaptic scaffold protein-related genes(pcloa,pclob,bsna),whose downregulation might impair the neuromuscular junction(NMJ).Therefore,we reasonably suspected that ETU-induced neurobehavioral deficits might result from the combined effects of the MAPK pathway and presynaptic proteins.Considering this,we highlighted the necessity to take precautions and early interventions for susceptible ETU-exposed populations.

To date, supramolecular chemistry is an ever growing research field owing to its crucial role in molecular catalysis, recognition, medicine, data storage and processing as well as artificial photosynthetic devices.Different isolated supramolecules were prepared by molecular self-assembly on surfaces. This review mainly focuses on supramolecular aggregations on noble metal surfaces studied by scanning tunneling microscopy, including dimers, trimers, tetramers, pentamers, wire-like assemblies and Sierpin′ ski triangular fractals. The variety of self-assembled structures reflects the subtle balance between intermolecular and molecule–substrate interactions, which to some extent may be controlled by molecules, substrates and the molecular coverage. The comparative study of different architectures helps identifying the operative mechanisms that lead to the structural motifs. The application of these mechanisms may lead to novel assemblies with tailored physicochemical properties.

Self-similar fractals are of importance in both science and engineering. Metal-organic Sierpin′ ski triangles are particularly attractive for applications in gas separation, catalysis and sensing. Such fractals are constructed in this study by using 1208 V-shaped 4,400-dicyano-1,10：30,100-terphenyl molecules and Fe atoms on Au（1 1 1）, and studied in detail by low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy. Density functional theory calculations are employed to rationalize the invisible Fe atoms in STM images. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to understand the formation mechanism of the surface-supported fractal crystals.

Optimal V_(2)O_(3) extraction by sustainable vanadate electrolysis in molten salts

Recently,an environmentally friendly electrolysis process of soluble vanadates is proposed and successfully confirmed for V_(2)O_(3) extraction.In this paper,the solubilities of various vanadates(i.e.NaVO_(3),Na_(4)V_(2)O_(7) and Na_(3)VO_(4))in NaCl molten salt are measured.The dependences of V_(2)O_(3) extraction on vanadate form,anode material and molten salt system are studied.A long-term electrolysis is carried out.The result indicates that the solubilities of all vanadates are high and meet electrolytic requirements.Compared to Na_(4)V_(2)O_(7) and Na_(3)VO_(4),NaVO_(3) exhibits larger current efficiency and lower electricity consumption.By using SnO_(2) anode instead of graphite anode,the current efficiency of NaVO_(3) electrolysis can be increased to 58.1%and carbon pollution is avoided at 700℃.The extraction rate of V_(2)O_(3) reaches 81.3%after long-term electrolysis of 51 h.This work optimizes the electrochemical preparation process of V_(2)O_(3) from various vanadates and contributes to the improvement of current efficiency and extraction rate.
