Nonlinear dynamics of electroencephalography study in schizophrenic patients

Background Few characteristic changes of linear electroencephalograph （EEG） have been reported in schizophrenia. The aim of the present study was to investigate the changes in temporal-spatial dimensional properties of EEG under different cognitive tasks in patients with schizophrenia. Methods EEG was recorded by using EEG-1518K system and mapping system （Nihon Kohden Tomioka Corporation, Japan） in 45 schizophrenic patients and 47 healthy adults （normal control, NC） under five states： eyes c^osed, eyes open, mental arithmetic test with eyes closed, memory test with eyes open, and number cancellation test. Correlation dimension （D2） and point-wise correlation dimension （PD2） were calculated for all EEG analyses. Results （1） There were no significant differences of D2 and PD2 between NC and schizophrenic patients under states of eyes open and closed. （2） Compared with NC, schizophrenic patients showed decreased performance of D2 in mental arithmetic test with eyes closed and number cancellation test （mental arithmetic test with eyes closed： Nc 5.9±0.6, Sch 3.0＋0.8; number cancellation test： Nc 6.0±0.6, Sch 4.4±0.7; P 〈0.05 or P 〈0.01）. （3） Schizophrenic patients also showed decrease performance of PD2 in mental arithmetic test with eyes closed, memory test with eyes open, and number cancellation test （mental arithmetic test with eyes closed： Nc 6.9±0.7, Sch 4.0±0.8; memory test with eyes open： Nc 6.6±0.8, Sch 5.0±0.9; number cancellation test： Nc 7.1±0.7, Sch 4.8±0.9; P 〈0.05 or P 〈0.01）. Conclusions Nonlinear dynamic analysis provided a new approach in clinical investigation of EEG signals. It was helpful to further understand the cerebral mechanism in schizophrenic cognitive process.

Construction of a eukaryotic expression vector pEGFP-C1-BMP-2 and its effect on cell migration

Objective: Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are known to play an important role in bone and cartilage development. Recent research has shown that BMPs may induce tumorigenesis and promote tumor to spread, but the molecular mechanisms have not been elucidated. The aim of the present study was to investigate the regulatory function of BMP-2 in the migration of COS-7 cells and the underlying mechanisms. Methods: Human BMP-2 genetic fragment was amplified and introduced into the pEGFP-C1 vector. After being confirmed by XhoI and BamHI digestion analyses and DNA sequencing, the recombinant pEGFP-C1-BMP-2 plasmid was transfected into COS-7 cells. The influence of BMP-2 on cell migration and cofilin activity was detected by cell scratch assay and Western blotting. Results: The recombinant pEGFP-C1-BMP-2 was effectively expressed in COS-7 cells. An increased phosphorylation of both LIMK1 and cofilin and an enhancement of cell migration were observed in cells with overexpression of BMP-2. Conclusions: A recombinant pEGFP-C1-BMP-2 vector was successfully constructed and overexpression of BMP-2 regulated the activities of the downstream molecules of the Rho GTPase signaling pathway, which might contribute to the enhancement of cell migration.

Synergy of phosphorus vacancies and build-in electric field into NiCo/NiCoP Mott-Schottky integrated electrode for enhanced water splitting performance

Vacancy engineering and Mott-Schottky heterostructure can accelerate charge transfer,regulate adsorption energy of reaction intermediates,and provide additional active sites,which are regarded as valid means for improving catalytic ***,the underlying mechanism of synergistic regulation of interfacial charge transfer and optimization of electrocatalytic activity by combining vacancy and Mott-Schottky junction remains ***,the growth of a bifunctional NiCo/NiCoP Mott-Schottky electrode with abundant phosphorus vacancies on foam nickel(NF)has been synthesized through continuous phosphating and reduction *** obtained NiCo/NiCoP heterojunctions show remarkable OER and HER activities,and the overpotentials for OER and HER are as low as 117 and 60 mV at 10 mA/cm^(2) in 1 mol/L KOH,***,as both the cathode and anode of overall water splitting,the voltage of the bifunctional NiCo/NiCoP electrocatalyst is 1.44 V at 10 mA/cm^(2),which are far exceeding the benchmark commercial *** theoretical calculation results confirm that the phosphorus vacancies and build-in electric field can effectively accelerate ion and electron transfer between NiCo alloy and NiCoP semiconductor,tailor the electronic structure of the metal centers and lower the Gibbs free energy of the ***,the unique self-supported integrated structure is beneficial to facilitate the exposure of the active site,avoid catalyst shedding,thus improving the activity and structural stability of NiCo/*** study provides an avenue for the controllable synthesis and performance optimization of Mott-Schottky electrocatalysts.

Endogenous biosynthesis of docosahexaenoic acid(DHA)regulates fish oocyte maturation by promoting pregnenolone production
