Four stereoisomers of 3,5-bis（2-hydroxybut-3-en-1-yl）-l,2,4-thiadiazole, named insatindigothiadia- zoles A-D （1a-1d）, were isolated from the roots oflsatis indigotica. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic analysis; specifically, the absolute configurations were assigned by using the MPA determination rule based on △δrs values of MPA esters, and supported by electronic CD （ECD） calculations. Proposed biosynthetic pathways and preliminary investigations of the biological activities of la-1d against influenza virus A （H3N2）, Coxsackie virus B3, and/or HSV-1 are also discussed.

Dialdehyde sodium alginate(DSA)is an alternative chrome-free tanning material for fur *** obtain satisfactory resultant fur and provide suggestions for the usage of DSA in fur making,the general properties of DSA tanned sheep fur were systematically *** tanning mechanism of DSA was analyzed and it was verified that DSA was mainly combined with collagen fiber by forming Schiff base covalent bonds while supplemented by a small number of hydrogen bonds and ionic *** to the acid sensitivity of Schiff base structure,DSA tanned fur had poor resistance to acid rinsing but had excellent resistance to washing and good fatliquoring ***,it had good resistances to yellowing and *** being retanned by chrome tanning agent,the fur was capable of enduring a high-temperature dyeing process(68°C for 8 h).Overall,DSA tanned sheep fur had favorable properties under appropriate post-tanning processing conditions to manufacture light-colored or dark-colored fur products with desirable physical properties.

Two transgenic rice lines （T2A-1 and T1C-19b） expressing cry2A and crylC genes, respectively, were developed in China, targeting lepidopteran pests including Chilo suppressalis （Walker）（Lepidoptera： Crambidae）. The seasonal expression of Cry proteins in different tissues of the rice lines and their resistance to C. suppressalis were assessed in comparison to a Bt rice line expressing a crylAb/Ac fusion gene, Huahui 1, which has been granted a biosafety certificate. In general, levels of Cry proteins were T2A- 1 〉 Huahui I 〉 T1C-19b among rice lines, and leaf 〉 stern 〉 root among rice tissues. The expression patterns of Cry protein in the rice line plants were similar： higher level at early stages than at later stages with an exception that high Cry 1C level in T 1 C- 19b stems at the maturing stage. The bioassay results revealed that the three transgenic rice lines exhibited significantly high resistance against C. suppressalis larvae throughout the rice growing season. According to Cry protein levels in rice tissues, the raw and corrected mortalities of C. suppressalis caused by each Bt rice line were the highest in the seedling and declined through the j ointing stage with an exception for T1 C-19b providing an excellent performance at the maturing stage. By comparison, T1C-19b exhibited more stable and greater resistance to C. suppressalis larvae than T2A-1, being close to Huahui 1. The results suggest crylC is an ideal Bt gene for plant transformation for lepidopteran pest control, and T1C-19b is a promising Bt rice line for commercial use for tolerating lepidopteran rice pests.

In this study,27 new sesquiterpenoids:twenty monomers and seven dimers,with diverse structures,along with one known chlora-japonilide F(25)were isolated from the aerial parts of Chloranthus henryi ***,chlorahupetolides A(1)and B(2),two eudesmane-type merosesquiterpenoids with an undescribed C18 carbon framework,and chlorahupetene E(18)are the first example of dimers comprising two eudesmane sesquiterpenoids bridged by a four-membered ring in the *** struc-tures were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR),electronic circular dichroism(ECD),and X-ray diffraction *** the RAW264.7 macrophages model of inflammation induced by LPS,compounds 12,18,and 25 significantly reduced NO production in a dose dependent manner and without *** mRNA expression of COX-2 was considerably inhibited by treatments with compounds 12,18,and 25.

Adipose Tissue and Cachexia: White or Brown

The adipose tissue of the body is classified into two types: white adipose tissue and brown adipose tissue;the former is mainly responsible for storing energy and the latter is to produce heat and dissipate energy. Recent research has shown that there is a third type of adipose tissue, namely white adipose tissue browning, i.e., brown adipose tissue existing inside the white adipose tissue. Brown adipose tissue, which is converted from white adipose tissue, is similar to brown adipocytes in function. Browning is one of the important features of lipid metabolism of cancer cachexia. On the one hand, white adipose tissue affects metabolism through increasing the amount of heat consumption after browning, resulting in a decrease in fat;on the other hand, the browning process participates in the process of the occurrence and development of cancer cachexia. Two driving factors, interleukin-6 and parathyroid hormone related protein, play an important role in this browning process. They are secreted by tumor tissue, mainly through the exciting sympathetic nervous system to release norepinephrine, and act on β3 adrenergic receptor of the adipocytes and further activate the the transcription factors which corresponded heat-production gene expression such as uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1), leading to white adipose tissue browning. The browning process is the early event of the occurrence of cancer cachexia and continues throughout the entire process of cancer cachexia. Therefore, early detection of the browning process will facilitate the development of intervention approach, improving the clinical outcome of diagnosis, prevention, and treatment for cancer cachexia.

The sense of taste plays a crucial role in herbivorous insects by discriminating nutrients from complex plant metabolic *** peripheral coding of taste has been thoroughly studied in many insect species,but the central gustatory pathways are poorly *** the present study,we characterized single neurons in the gnathal ganglion of Helicoverpa armigera larvae using the intracellular recording/staining *** identified different types of neurons,including sensory neurons,interneurons,and motor *** morphologies of these neurons were largely diverse and their arborizations seemingly covered the whole gnathal *** representation of the single neurons responding to the relevant stimuli of sweet and bitter cues showed no distinct patterns in the gnathal *** postulate that taste signals may be processed in a manner consistent with the principle of population coding in the gnathal ganglion of *** larvae.
