At present,the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic is a global health crisis.Scientists all over the globe are urgently looking forward to an effective solution to prevent the spread of the epidemic and avoid more casualties at an early date.In this study,we establish an effective platform for the prevention of SARS-CoV-2 by combining the neutralization strategy and RNAi technology.To protect normal cells from infection,the customized cells are constructed to stably express viral antigenic receptor ACE2 on the cell membrane.These modified cells are used as bait for inducing the viral entry.The transcription and replication activities of viral genome are intercepted subsequently by the intracellular sh RNAs,which are complementary to the viral gene fragments.A pseudotyped virus reconstructed from the HIV lentivirus is utilized as a virus model,by which we validate the feasibility and effectiveness of our strategy in vitro.Our work establishes an initial model and lays the foundation for future prevention and treatment of various RNA viruses.

Food waste(FW)is a promising renewable low-cost biomass substrate for enhancing the economic feasibility of fermentative propionate production.Although lipids,a common component of food waste,can be used as a carbon source to enhance the production of volatile fatty acids(VFAs)during co-fermentation,few studies have evaluated the potential for directional propionate production from the co-fermentation of lipids and FW.In this study,co-fermentation experiments were conducted using different combinations of lipids and FW for VFA production.The contributions of lipids and FW to propionate production,hydrolysis of substrates,and microbial composition during.cofermentation were evaluated.The results revealed that lipids shifted the fermentation type of FW from butyric to propionic acid fermentation.Based on the estimated propionate production kinetic parameters,the maximum propionate productivity increased significantly with an increase in lipid content,reaching 6.23 g propionate/(L·d)at a lipid content of 50%.Propionate-producing bacteria Prevotella,Veillonella,and norank f Propionibacteriaceae were enriched in the presence of lipids,and the succinate pathway was identified as a prominent fermentation route for propionate production.Moreover,the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes functional annotation revealed that the expression of functional genes associated with amino acid metabolism was enhanced by the presence of lipids.Collectively,these findings will contribute to gaining a better understanding of targeted propionate production from FW.

Rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries(ZIBs)featuring low cost,superior performance,and environmental benignity have attracted dramatic atten-tion as a promising alternative energy storage system to lithium-ion batteries.Nevertheless,the development of ZIBs is still hindered by the limited selection of cathode materials due to the large solvation sheath and charge density of Zn^(2+).Two-dimensional(2D)materials have attracted extraor-dinary attention owing to the unique layered structure bonded by weak van der Waals'forces,which makes them promising host materials for Zn^(2+)intercalation/de-intercalation.In this review,the synthesis and properties of 2D materials for cathodes in ZIBs are discussed.Meanwhile,various re-ports on 2D materials as ZIBs cathodes are summarized.Three key strategies to elicit improved Zn2+storage abilities:defect engineering,hetero-structure engineering,and interlayer engineering,are highlighted.Finally,this review ends with perspectives relating to the challenges and opportu-nities of 2D materials-based ZIBs.

Additive manufacturing,also known as three-dimensional(3D)printing,has attracted increasing attention due to the innovations in materials science and manufacturing over recent decades[1].Recently,innovations in biocompatible materials and biology have enabled the extension of 3D printing techniques into bioadditive manufacturing,which focuses on the fabrication of 3D engineered native-like tissues/organs[2].Currently,bioadditive manufacturing technologies can be categorized into inkjet-based bioprinting,microextrusion-based bioprinting,digital light processing(DLP)bioprinting,electric field-assisted bioprinting,and fused deposition modeling(FDM),to name a few[3,4](Fig.1).Artificial tissues and organs with delicate structures,such as the heart[5]and liver[6],have been successfully fabricated using various bioadditive manufacturing techniques.

Objective: To study the protective effect of anthocyanins extracted from Vaccinium Uliginosum(VU)on retinal 661W cells against microwave radiation induced retinal injury. Methods: 661W cells were divided into 6 groups, including control, model [661W cells radiated by microwave(30 mW/cm2, 1 h)] and VU groups [661W cells pretreated with anthocyanins extracted from VU(25, 50, 100 and 200 μg/mL, respectively) for 48 h, and radiated by microwave 30 mW/cm2, 1 h]. After treatment with different interventions, the cell apoptosis index(AI)was determined using Heochst staining;contents of malonaldehyde(MDA), glutataione(GSH), and activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) were measured. mRNA expressions of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2) and heme oxygenase 1(HO-1) were detected by real time quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and the expression of HO-1 protein was examined by Western blot analysis. Nucleus and cytoplasm were separated and Nrf2 protein expression was further verified by Western blot analysis. Results: There was significant difference in AI among the groups(F=322.83, P<0.05). Compared with the control group, AI was significantly higher in the model group and was lower in 4 VU-pretreated groups(P<0.05). Linear regression analysis showed the decline of AI was in a dose-dependent manner with VU treatment(r=0.8419, P<0.05). The MDA and GSH contents of 661W cells in VU-treated groups were significantly lower than the model group(P<0.05). Compared with the model group, the SOD activity in the VU-treated groups(50, 100 and 200 μg/mL) was significantly higher(all P<0.05). The Nrf2 and HO-1 mRNA expressions were slightly increased after irradiation, and obviously increased in 100 μg/mL VU-treated group. After irradiation, the relative expressions of HO-1 and Nrf2 proteins in nucleus were slightly increased(P<0.05), and the changes in cytoplasm were not obvious,whereas it was significantly increased in both nucleus and cytoplasm in the VU treatment groups. The inculcation of bioinspiration in sensing and human–machine interface(HMI)technologies can lead to distinctive characteristics such as conformability,low power consumption,high sensitivity,and unique properties like self-healing,self-cleaning,and adaptability.Both sensing and HMI are fields rife with opportunities for the application of bioinspired nanomaterials,particularly when it comes to wearable sensory systems where biocompatibility is an additional requirement.This review discusses recent development in bioinspired nanomaterials for wearable sensing and HMIs,with a specific focus on state-of-the-art bioinspired capacitive sensors,piezoresistive sensors,piezoelectric sensors,triboelectric sensors,magnetoelastic sensors,and electrochemical sensors.We also present a comprehensive overview of the challenges that have hindered the scientific advancement in academia and commercialization in the industry.

Microglia are resident immune cells in the central nervous system. During the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease, stimulatory factors continuously act on the microglia causing abnormal activation and unbalanced phenotypic changes;these events have become a significant and promising area of research. In this review, we summarize the effects of microglial polarization and crosstalk with other cells in the central nervous system in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Our literature search found that phenotypic changes occur continuously in Alzheimer’s disease and that microglia exhibit extensive crosstalk with astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, neurons, and penetrated peripheral innate immune cells via specific signaling pathways and cytokines. Collectively, unlike previous efforts to modulate microglial phenotypes at a single level, targeting the phenotypes of microglia and the crosstalk with other cells in the central nervous system may be more effective in reducing inflammation in the central nervous system in Alzheimer’s disease. This would establish a theoretical basis for reducing neuronal death from central nervous system inflammation and provide an appropriate environment to promote neuronal regeneration in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

Thermally induced spindle angular errors of a machine tool are important factors that affect the machining accuracy of parts.It is critical to develop models with good generalization abilities to control these angular thermal errors.However,the current studies mainly focus on the modeling of linear thermal errors,and an angular thermal error model applicable to different working conditions has rarely been investigated.Furthermore,the formation mechanism of the angular thermal error remains to be studied.In this study,an analytical modeling method was proposed by analyzing the formation and propagation chain of the spindle angular thermal errors of a five-axis computer numerical control(CNC)machine tool.The effects of the machine tool structure and position were considered in the modeling process.The angular thermal error equations were obtained by analyzing the spatial thermoelastic deformation states.An analytical model of the spindle angular thermal error was established based on the geometric relation between thermal deformations.The model parameters were identified using the trust region least squares method.The results showed that the proposed analytical model exhibited good generalization ability in predicting spindle pitch angular thermal errors under different working conditions with variable spindle rotational speeds,spindle positions,and environmental temperatures in different seasons.The average mean absolute error(MAE),root mean square error(RMSE)and R2 in twelve different experiments were 4.7μrad,5.6μrad and 0.95,respectively.This study provides an effective method for revealing the formation mechanism and controlling the spindle angular thermal errors of a CNC machine tool.

Design and Fabrication of Reflective Phase Shifter for Two-Dimensional Terahertz Beam-Scanning Reflectarray

A reflective phase shifter is proposed to realize the two-dimensional beam-scanning reflectarray.The reflectarray is composed of double-dipole resonant elements in which the phase shift is implemented by applying a driving voltage to the liquid crystal(LC). A 30 ×30 phase shifter sample is fabricated on a quartz substrate with a 480 μm thickness and a 4 cm × 4 cm area.According to the experimental results, 0 to 360° phase shift can be achieved within the bandwidth of 5 GHz. In order to accomplish two-dimensional beam-scanning and reduce the negative impact of driving lines on the reflectarray, a new LC driving method is developed. To verify the accuracy of the proposed approach, three samples of different driving line numbers are designed using the above-mentioned phase shifter, which all have achieved a0-360° phase shift in the bandwidth of 4 GHz. Considering the influence of LC anisotropy and inhomogeneity, an improved calculation result is obtained and compared with experimental data.
