Impact of climate change on allowable bearing capacity on theQinghai-Tibetan Plateau

Climate change has a substantial impact on infrastructures in the permafrost on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP). In this study, the mean annual ground temperature (MAGT) and permafrost evolution were investigated in both the historical (1950-2005) and projected (2006-2099) periods. Then, an allowable bearing capacity model was used to discuss the allowable bearing capacity change on the QTP. Results show that the MAGT increased by 0.36 ℃ during 1950-2005. The MAGT will increase by 0.40 (RCP2.6), 0.79 (RCP4.5), 1.07 (RCP6.0), and 1.75 (RCP8.5)℃C during 2006-2099. In addition, the permafrost area has decreased by 0.195 × 10^6 km2 in 1950-2005. The permafrost area will decrease by 0.232 × 10^6 (RCP2.6), 0.468 × 10^6 (RCP4.5), 0.564 × 10^6 (RCP6.0), and 0.803 × 10^6 (RCP8.5) km2 during 2006-2099. With the degradation of permafrost, the allowable bearing capacity in permafrost zones would decrease accordingly. The decreasing trend is 6 kPa per 10 years in 1950-2005, and will be 0.6 (RCP2.6), 5 (RCP4.5), 7 (RCP6.0), and 11 (RCP8.5) kPa per 10 years during 2006-2099. The most remarkable trend would be observed under RCP8.5. Meanwhile, some scientific advices for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of permafrost engineering in the context of climate change were provided.

The mitochondrion is the powerhouse of a cell.As the principal subcellular organelles that mediate adenosine triphosphate(ATP)production and calcium buffering,mitochondria actively distribute to areas of high energy demand and calcium flux.The highly polarized nerve cells in the central nervous system(CNS),which have unparalleled size and complexity and long-projection axons,are cells with high-energy requirements.Mitochondria are regionally organized within these neurons,with higher accumulations in the soma,the hillock,the nodes of Ranvier,and the axon terminals.In the synaptic region,mitochondria regulate calcium and ATP levels,thereby maintaining synaptic transmission and structure.Defects in mitochondrial dynamics can cause deficits in neuronal transport,transmission,and metabolism(Misgeld and Schwarz,2017).

Traumatic spinal cord injury(SCI)leads to chronic locomotor impairment and disability.Unfortunately,there are no effective treatments currently available for SCI patients(Bradbury and Burnside,2019).Developing novel repair interventions to mitigate the devastating nature of SCI and translating them clinically are urgent medical needs to improve the quality of life of patients with SCI.The lumbar spinal motoneurons(MNs)are the final common pathway for hindlimb locomotion since all neural activities that influence hindlimb movement converging upon these neurons.

Due to the nature of the solute redistribution,the reduction in the solidification rate with time in a square root relationship,and the multiphase melt flow during the solidification,casting defects such as macrosegregation,shrinkage cavity,and porosity will inevitably occur in the steel ingot and intensify with the increase in ingot size.These defects directly affect the performance of the final product and severely restrict the choice of subsequent thermal processing methods and process windows.Therefore,the solidification defects including macrosegregation,shrinkage/porosity,and inclusions encountered in the preparation of large steel ingots and their formation mechanisms were reviewed.The development progress and the latest development of the macrosegregation model for steel ingots were introduced in detail,especially the latest progress in the coupling prediction of macrosegregation and shrinkage as well as macrosegregation and inclusions.Some methods to reduce macrosegregation of ingots were discussed as well.Finally,a new casting method called layered casting was introduced in detail.This method can effectively improve the uniformity of the macrostructure and reduce the macrosegregation of the large ingots and therefore is a promising method for preparing large ingots with high homogeneity.

As a popular kind of stylized face,cartoon faces have rich application scenarios.It is challenging to create personalized 3D cartoon faces directly from 2D real photos.Besides,in order to adapt to more application scenarios,automatic style editing,and animation of cartoon faces is also a crucial problem that is urgently needed to be solved in the industry,but has not yet had a perfect solution.To solve this problem,we first propose“3D face cartoonizer”,which can generate high-quality 3D cartoon faces with texture when fed into 2D facial images.We contribute the first 3D cartoon face hybrid dataset and a new training strategy which first pretrains our network with low-quality triplets in a reconstruction-then-generation manner,and then finetunes it with high-quality triplets in an adversarial manner to fully leverage the hybrid dataset.Besides,we implement style editing for 3D cartoon faces based on k-means,which can be easily achieved without retrain the neural network.In addition,we propose a new cartoon faces'blendshape generation method,and based on this,realize the expression animation of 3D cartoon faces,enabling more practical applications.Our dataset and code will be released for future research.

A spinal cord injury refers to an injury to the spinal cord that is caused by a trauma instead of diseases. Spinal cord injury includes a primary mechanical injury and a much more complex secondary injury process involving inflammation, oxidation, excitotoxicity, and cell death. During the secondary injury, many signal pathways are activated and play important roles in mediating the pathogenesis of spinal cord injury. Among them, the Rho A/Rho kinase pathway plays a particular role in mediating spinal degeneration and regeneration. In this review, we will discuss the role and mechanism of Rho A/Rho kinase-mediated spinal cord pathogenesis, as well as the potential of targeting Rho A/Rho kinase as a strategy for promoting both neuroprotection and axonal regeneration.

In this paper, we investigate analytic and geometric properties of obstruction flatness of strongly pseudoconvex CR hypersurfaces of dimension 2n-1. Our first two results concern local aspects. One asserts that any strongly pseudoconvex CR hypersurface M ? Cncan be osculated at a given point p ∈ M by an obstruction flat one up to order 2n + 4 generally and 2n + 5 if and only if p is an obstruction flat point. In the other result, we show that locally there are non-spherical but obstruction flat CR hypersurfaces with transverse symmetry for n = 2. The final main result in this paper concerns the existence of obstruction flat points on compact, strongly pseudoconvex, 3-dimensional CR hypersurfaces. It asserts that the unit sphere in a negative line bundle over a Riemann surface X always has at least one circle of obstruction flat points.

Qinghuang Powder(QHP),an oral arsenic,has become an effective drug in the treatment of myelodysplastic syndromes(MDS)in Xiyuan Hospital,China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences for many years,and the action mechanism of the compound or active ingredient AsSof QHP has been elucidated.Considering the relatively safety,chemotherapy-free and convenient oral profile,QHP is widely used in the clinical treatment for MDS patients,especially for elderly patients.In this review,the authors document the efficacy and safety of oral arsenic-containing compound QHP in the treatment of MDS,with a special focus on the association of efficacy of QHP with the cytogenetics,prognostic risk,DNA methylation,gene mutation,blood arsenic concentration,mechanism of action of AsSand the countermeasures against adverse reactions of gastrointestinal tract.
