With the increasing urbanization, studies have shown that the Urban Heat Istand （UHI） Intensity in many cities has increased drastically. This issue is becoming even more critical because of the imminent effect of Climate Change. Many cities are experiencing extreme heatwaves more frequently. It is essential that more research should be conducted to understand the impact of UHI and also to examine the relationship between UHI and Climate Change.

Objectives To assess the association of socioeconomic indicators with various chronic and acute illnesses and the utilization of public health care in a new town in Hong Kong, China. Methods Illness experience and socioeconomic and demographic data of 7570 residents from 2022 randomly selected households were collected through telephone interviews. The relationships between socioeconomic indicators and illnesses/choice of health care were explored using stepwise logistic regressions after adjusting for sex and age. Results Significant positive associations were noted between low household income and diabetes mellitus, any chronic illnesses among adults and flu among younger subjects; low educational level and accident-related illness among adults; being born in Chinese mainland and flu, any acute illness in adults. For the utilization of public health care, low household income was the most consistent risk factor. Conclusion This study did not demonstrate a unidirectional socioeconomic gradient in healt

Due to the lack of color in manga(Japanese comics), black-and-white textures are often used to enrich visual experience. With the rising need to digitize manga, segmenting texture regions from manga has become an indispensable basis for almost all manga processing, from vectorization to colorization. Unfortunately, such texture segmentation is not easy since textures in manga are composed of lines and exhibit similar features to structural lines(contour lines). So currently, texture segmentation is still manually performed, which is labor-intensive and time-consuming. To extract a texture region, various texture features have been proposed for measuring texture similarity, but precise boundaries cannot be achieved since boundary pixels exhibit different features from inner pixels. In this paper, we propose a novel method which also adopts texture features to estimate texture regions. Unlike existing methods, the estimated texture region is only regarded an initial, imprecise texture region. We expand the initial texture region to the precise boundary based on local smoothness via a graph-cut formulation. This allows our method to extract texture regions with precise boundaries. We have applied our method to various manga images and satisfactory results were achieved in all cases.

Cadmium uptake and speciation changes in the rhizosphere of cadmium accumulator and non-accumulator oilseed rape varieties

Characteristics of cadmium （Cd） uptake kinetics and distribution of Cd speciation in the rhizosphere for Cd accumulator and nonaccumulator oilseed rape varieties were investigated under nutrient solution and rhizobox soil culture conditions. The results showed that the maximal influx （Vmax） for Cd^2＋ and Km were significantly different for the two oilseed rape varieties. The value of Vmax for Cd accumulator oilseed rape Zhucang Huazi was two-fold greater than that for oilseed rape Chuan you Ⅱ-93. The exchangeable Cd concentration in the rhizosphere was significantly lower than in non-rhizospheric soils supplemented with CdSO4 for both the varieties. Carbonate-bound Cd in the rhizosphere of Cd accumulator oilseed rape was significantly higher than that in the rhizosphere of nonaccumulator oilseed rape and non-rhizospheric soil. Cd accumulator oilseed rape had a higher Cd^2＋ affinity and more ability to uptake insoluble Cd in the soil than the non-accumulator oilseed rape.

Adoptive T-cell therapy(ACT)is a promising therapeutic approach based on the concept of potent T-cell mediated immunity against the *** outcome of antigen-specific T-cells responses relies on the interaction between T-cells and antigen-presenting cells,which provides signals for generating different T-cell phenotypes with different roles in tumor ***,such interaction is often not optimal in vivo and results in low therapeutic *** reach the full potential of the T-cell response,current research put effort into developing dynamic biomaterials as artificial antigen-presenting cells to study and regulate the T-cell activity for controlling T-cell *** this perspective,we provide(1)an overview of ACT and general T-cells behaviors,(2)explore the insight on how biomaterials can be used for studying and regulating T-cell behaviors,(3)and discuss conceptual gaps in knowledge for biomaterials-based immunotherapy.

The family Filoviridae, which includes the genera Marburgvirus and Ebolavirus, contains some of the most pathogenic viruses in humans and non-human primates （NHPs）, causing severe hemorrhagic fevers with high fatality rates. Small animal models against filoviruses using mice, guinea pigs, hamsters, and ferrets have been developed with the goal of screening candidate vaccines and antivirals, before testing in the gold standard NHP models. In this review, we summarize the different animal models used to understand filovirus pathogenesis, and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each model with respect to filovirus disease research.

Metabolic(dysfunction)-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)is currently the most common chronic liver disease and affects at least a quarter of the global adult *** has rapidly become one of the leading causes of hepatocellular carcinoma and cirrhosis in Western *** this review,we discuss the nomenclature and definition of MAFLD as well as its prevalence and incidence in different geographical *** cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in MAFLD patients,the proportion of patients dying from hepatic complications increases sharply as the disease progresses to advanced liver fibrosis and *** addition,patients with MAFLD are at increased risk of various extrahepatic *** a causal relationship between MAFLD and extrahepatic cancers has not been established,clinicians should recognize the association and consider cancer screening(e.g.,for colorectal cancer)as appropriate.
